Talk about a “Let them eat cake” response. Wow. Some folks were driving 15-20 year old cars because they couldn't afford to buy a newer lower mileage vehicle, or because they had certain family/medical needs requiring a van or car. Some recent empty nesters were stuck with the big Explorers they used to chauffeur the kids around in and then lost their jobs, homes, credit ratings and drove the big beasts because they were paid for.

There are so many reasons why folks do what they do. Some folks just like the darned things and don't mind paying for feeling safe, getting out of snow banks or whatever. What an air-headed statement to make — especially in this economy.

The word for the day class is “tone-deaf”.

It could be under a buck again if we can get these jackwagons out of the way. Oil price is rising because perceived instability. Problem solved. All the US needs to do is say, “Starting today will will be opening oil wells on the east and west coasts, ANWR and everywhere else our nation has oil. We believe that cheap fuel benefits mankind by giving them the ability to produce and ship goods, increase the freedom of movement withing nation boundaries, providing jobs to the people that desperately need work, and free up world oil supplies so the rest of the world can enjoy the same benefits. Our country will prosper and so can the rest of the world”

We can be rest assured that these words will never be uttered, even in private, by anyone in government.

When President George W. Bush lifted the moratorium on offshore drilling. Prices dropped significantly within days.

I have to be honest from of the comments on Yahoo are far more Anti-Obama than what I see on here, and they even get that. From what I can tell it is the large majority of them as well.

Interesting that he should throw out that number, since that's precisely the mileage his limousine gets.

Last week President Obama announced his new ‘Green Fleet’ plan that would see all of the government’s 600,000 vehicles be either hybrids, plug-in electrics or flex-fuel models by 2015. There are, however, a few exceptions – most notably ‘The Beast’. The nickname for the President’s armored Cadillac limousine, also referred to as Cadillac One, it is exempt from the new rules. Secret Service Special Agent Robert Novy confirmed as much to Fox News, commenting that, “certain specialized vehicles with law enforcement and security specifications are not subject to this directive.” Included in that list is ‘The Beast’, which features 5-inch thick reinforced walls, it’s own oxygen system and a blood bank in the trunk is reported to get just 8-mpg.
