A female juror in a high-profile American mafia murder trial was sentenced to indefinite jury duty after giving racist answers to a court questionnaire.
The Asian woman in her 20s was asked along with hundreds of others to provide answers to the survey prior to serving on the jury for the trial of crime boss Vincent Basciano.
But the woman enraged a Federal Court judge in New York by answering the question, 'Name three people you least admire', with the answer: 'African-Americans, Hispanics and Haitians.'
When asked by a judge at Brooklyn Federal Court to explain her answer, she replied: 'You always hear about them in the news doing something.'
The woman, known only as 'Juror No. 799', went on to claim all police officers are lazy, and only use their sirens to bypass traffic jams.
Lawyers in the case successfully requested she be removed from jury duty in Basciano's trial due to her 'inappropriate' comments.
A furious judge, Nicholas Garaufis, held up the woman's questionnaire in court and told her: 'This is an outrage, and so are you!' Referring to her racist answers, Judge Garaufis sarcastically asked the juror: 'Why didn't you put Asians down also?'
The woman replied: 'Maybe I should have.'
Jurors in America have been known to try to escape jury duty by providing outlandish answers to jury questionnaires.
But the Asian woman's views evidently backfired, as she has since been told she will serve on the jury until the judge deems her ready for release.

That is the first thing that came to my mind.
Pity she didn't put "tyrannical judges" on her list.
My question would be - who WOULDN’T laugh?
So much for free speech.
Yes, she forgot that Proles are supposed to engage in Doublethink, when speaking out loud especially when addressing a member of the Inner Party.
Yep. Indefinite punishment for an “unpopular” viewpoint.
How is that not cruel and unusual? This woman needs to find a real lawyer, fast. This judge should be removed from the bench.
I guess the judge never heard about freedom of speech. I believe I would be suing him if he wrongfully imprisoned me.
..and providing very defense atty of any trial she serves on, a built-in grounds for mistrial and appeal.....
She could add Judges to that list now
“So in other words the judge wanted her to lie and state that she admires everyone?”
. . . and then go on indefinite jury duty prejudicing every trial she sits at.
How about Judges, Lawyers, and Defendants? That is the best answer, by far. I'd love to see how she gets punished with that answer to that exceedingly stupid question.
I was on federal jury duty years back, and the judge was asking potential jurors if they had any reasons to not serve. One man said, “ I hate n&&&ers”...the judge looked at him and said, “ Then I guess you need a lesson in race relations. You will serve on this jury”....
I show up with a fifth of Jack Daniels and a noose. The first words out of my mouth are, “where tis that some-bitch.”
Sometimes they excuse me at the front door.
The question only asked for three judge - therefore, blacks, hispanics, and Haitians.
This better get thrown out, the judge is being a little tyrant.
She should ask to redo the questionnaire and add "Greeks".
Jury duty is supposed to be a civil responsibility, something citizens do to make the system work.
So it’s out in the open now- it’s punishment.
And in this case, punishment for thoughtcrime.
What was the judge thinking- what trial would be fair with this “racist” on the panel? And you have to consider that she’ll likely lose her job when she does not show up for a month. payroll usually covers you for the difference in pay (when I was in Santa Monica courthouse jury duty was $5 per day).
If she had added "tyrannical judges" to her list, I'm sure she'd be imprisoned (behind bars) for, "contempt of court."

What some of these robed clowns don't understand is that some of the courts in this country have earned contempt.
:)
No they need to keep her there as an excuse to release criminals on a technicality.
