America's Fiscal Future: Paul Ryan's budget plan dramatically slows spending growth, gets entitlements under control and begins the arduous task of easing the nation's crippling debt load. So what's not to like?
As Congress argues over a measly $33 billion in cuts to the 2011 budget to keep the government from shutting down, the plan by House Budget Chairman Ryan for 2012 and beyond not only reverses the Democrats' profligacy but returns the U.S. to a path of fiscal responsibility.
The plan trims $6.2 trillion from President Obama's budget (see chart), driving outlays back below 20% of GDP, their historic average, and well below the 25% in Obama's budget.
As for the squealing of the Democrats over vicious "cuts," spending actually grows from 2011 to 2021 under Ryan's plan by $1.12 trillion an increase of 31%, or 3.1% a year. So those who say government is being "slashed" are being disingenuous.
In contrast, since Democrats took over Congress in 2006, spending has risen $1.2 trillion, or 44%. That amounts to a yearly gain of 9% that has pushed us to the brink of insolvency.
One thing that Ryan does slash is the deficit by $4.4 trillion over 10 years. That's $4.4 trillion less for our children and grandchildren to repay. More importantly, debt peaks at a projected 74.5% of GDP in 2013, then recedes to 67.5% by 2021 vs. 87.4% under Obama's budget.

no he didn't --lol. I care deeply for our Republic. I truly believe his proposal will not actually solve anything, and when things go bad, conservatives will get the blame.
If anything, his proposal could be a hail Mary attempt to save our Republic. His proposal was likely crafted as one that would have the greatest chance of getting public support. However, any such proposal will surely fail.
Therefore one can conclude that there will not be a "normal" political solution to our impending collapse. The "people" will not politically accept what must be done in order to save our Republic.
Ryan's heart is in the right place, but it would have been best if he did not make any proposal.
We are not all Americans anymore. The nation is divided into Americans and...either idiots or anti-Americans.
So many "conservatives" on this board are seemingly convinced that "all is hopeless" and propose to simply "give up".
Color me "suspicious"...
Indeed and that is very sad
HOORAY Paul Ryan! (bring a bigger machete, Paul)
Defund all collectives. Vote out all ‘rats. C’mon 2012.
That total B.S. What many of us are doing is looking objectively at the reality of governments at all levels. It is truly frightening what his happening. I am quite involved in Tea Party activities and various PACs.
Believe me, most Freepers will NEVER give up. What we see year after year is weak leaders saying they will act, but fail us. The Tea Party is a very positive development.
Those who cherish Liberty never give up; it's not in our DNA. It is just that with Ryan's proposal, many are being falsely assured that "finally we can turn the beast around." Sorry, no sale for this proposal.
If that's not a call to "give up", I don't know what is.
Unless they look at the facts. Too bad the Republicans are too F'ing stooopid to present a few charts to the American voters.

You make absolutely no sense -- lol. YES nothing proposed would be better than what he proposed. Liberty will not be served by his budget.
The time will come when actions of much greater boldness will be acceptable to the people. Then great changes can be made towards Liberty. That time has not yet arrived. Don't give up on us Freepers who have seemed to have given up!! :)
Yes people really are this stupid.
He puts off the cuts until after this congress is over and even then doesn’t balance the budget until well after ten years.
The fact that this proposal gets so much support from people who believe they are Conservatives is truly discouraging.
I an stunned that some many who call themselves Conservatives think this is a solution to our budget problems.
Ryan’s plan puts off a balanced budget for more than TEN years. Ten!
What great courage does it take to do less than the minimum to keep us from defaulting on our debt.
Ryan is a clown. A serious proposal would have the serious cuts come from this congress and have the budget balanced as the economy comes to full recovery.
You know, like Rand Paul’s budget.
The political circus gets funnier every day. Many programs and whole departments need to be shut down, necessitating repeals. The default will take care of that—not politicians.
Good charts. Self-pinging for posterity.
And there is no chance it will pass.
Even less chance that Rand Paul's budget will pass.
Get your mind around the fact that there will be no serious budget cutting until the Republicans control all three branches of government.
A very good Republican post from the Daniels/Rove wing of the Party. A darn bad answer from an American.
The last time Republicans had all three they did nothing of the kind because they know people will accept excuses from them.
Gratuitous insult noted.
The last time Republicans had all three they did nothing of the kind because they know people will accept excuses from them.
Your solution to this problem, of course, is a third party.
Rendering you useless from the standpoint of actually accomplishing anything...
Gratuitous insult returned.
The only reason you take that as an insult is that it makes it clear that you are more worried about Republicans winning elections than the country surviving as a free republic. Clarity is not an insult unless what it makes clear is obviously to be insulted.
If you were more worried about the country, you would figure out what needs to be done and stand behind it. “It” is certainly not Ryan’s plan.
Hardly.
That's a foolish assertion that shouldn't be addressed at any long-term member of this board.
Third party guy, huh?
Okay.
How much debt is to much debt?
When do we reach that number under Ryan’s plan?
Those are simple questions with numerical answers. Can you answer them?
