OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha’s YWCA is dropping a letter from its name along with its affiliation with the national YWCA.
The board of directors for the local YWCA said they have determined the organization would be more effective as an independent agency.
With the transition, the organization is also changing its name to the Women’s Center for Advancement.
"To better reflect our local mission of helping women and their families build lives of strength, growth and self-sufficiency, we have adopted a new, vibrant and more inclusive identity,” WCA board chairwoman Sandy Parker said.
The WCA will remain at 222 South 29th St.
"As the agency evolves, the Women's Center for Advancement will continue to develop and expand programs that help women and their families live safely and grow confidently," Parker said.

As they change their name to the Women’s Center for Advancement, they are advancing several steps backward. But always advancing, mind you.
The word “Christian” in YWCA must be irritating someone.
They need screw-ups so they can appeal for money.
The more screw-ups the more money.
Our local YWCA dropped its affiliation shortly after the national organization did away with the Christian part.
It's not like they did it through deception. The left flat-out openly stated they were going to do a "long march through the institutions".
They did, and we sat back and pretty much watched them. And then when they come out somewhere and declare "mission accomplished" we have a two minute outrage and then go back to waiting for the next "whack a mole" takeover.
The left never rests, and the right doesn't even seem to want to get out of bed and put his pants on.
Several years ago the YWCA tried to hire Former NOW President and Lesbian Eleanor Smeal as its President. When this happened there was an uproar in the Christian community. When the Girl Scouts were taken over by the Feminists the same thing happened. Neither organiztion deserves no merits your support if you are a Conservative and if you are a Christian. They are hypocrites. Who are promoting Lesbianism to the Girl Scouts.
The YWCA is losing its core values and being hijacked by the Feminist movement. Whose goal is to infiltrate Churches and dilute the values, dogma and message of the Christian community. Christians For Bibilical Equality is such a group. But there are others. Whose goal is to defang the Churches of their core values and implant Feminist values in its place.
It is, it’s now going to be an outreach center for liberal women causes - just now operating totally in the open.
One stop shopping. Get contraceptives, food stamps, welfare, plus divorce counseling from those evil men who’ve just kept you down, and hey don’t forget to vote for the dems who just want you to be secure and safe protected by them.
It wasn't taken over by feminists. It was founded by them.
