I think it is. In the aftermath of September 11, we had no choice but to overthrow the Taliban, destroy al Qaeda's training centers and kill and scatter as many al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists as possible. We did that, brilliantly. Bin Laden escaped by the skin of his teeth, but al Qaeda has never recovered from that initial devastation. Since then, for going on nine years, we have pursued a somewhat half-hearted peacekeeping/democracy policy in Afghanistan. The Bush administration was right, I think, not to devote excessive resources to Afghanistan

But not before leaving a parting gift of a MOAB.
We should have hit the Taliban hard, left and if they returned, hit them again, including going into Pakistan
Bring the guys home. No need for more to die for a bunch of heathens.
Get them out of there and Libya.
We can not even define the enemy. What is the point being there?

Have fun with your Heroin and donkeys....
Salt the earth in the GD poppy fields, make it so they never grow another one, then get the hell out. Let em try to make a living renting lodging to the AQ freaks that are left and blow the crap out of every camp they ever try to establish. It won’t be regime change it will be a police action.
YES! They don’t want help FU— Em!
That picture is what made me change my mind, the halfass commander that ordered that does not deserve further support.
Afghanistan may never be a modern country and since there is practically no infrastructure, it is basically impossible to mount a modern war against them. You will never be able to defeat the Taliban if they can hide in Pakistan and then come back when we eventually leave.
There no longer is any point to what we are doing there. Time to get out. And no point in dragging it out, that I can see.
We should had started pulling out two years ago. President Bush’s initial move not to devote excessive resources to Afghanistan.
True. Which means the real target, from the beginning, should have been Pakistan.
So, where is he?
Reduce to a minimum presence (embassy staff and intelligence) and drop inexpensive bombs from drones.
He’s hanging out with Elvis and Jim Morrison.
Excellent job and job well done!
We may have to return in a few years to kick some more butt. But, such is world politics.
