Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.
Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.
U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."
"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

No Jackass!
The terrorist muslims pose the grave danger to our troops, and to their own people!
Do you suppose that if our brave soldiers taped Qurans to their body armor it would make much difference?
I don’t trust him, something is fishy, I think he went native, bet he studies the Koran.
They told me that if I voted for McCain, the White House would order Army generals to condemn blasphemy and try to suppress the 1st Amendment rights of fringe religious groups in the United States... and they were right!
Using your brain, such as it is, answer one question : Has a captured American soldier in Afghanistan ever been treated for wounds and returned? Pre or post burning-comic-book?
Ouattara Forces Advance in Abidjan; Massacre Leaves 800 Dead (Muslim troops massacre Christians)
Next up: Petraeus condemns scantily-clothed women for being raped.
Petraeus is lily-livered. Don’t burn a Koran but its ok to kill Christians.
Yeah, don’t do anything to upset the Muzzies, treat them with them kid gloves.
what a dope he is.
Yet everyone seems to be getting their panties in a bundle because some preacher does it?
Seems like the solution's pretty obvious here. Each of us should go out, pick up a Koran for a quarter at the local thrift store, go take our cell phone cameras and film it being burned. Why should there be a lone wolf here? There should be thousands of these films out there, on Facebook, on Twitter, on You Tube and Google Videos. You should type ‘burning Koran’ and get millions of hits on any video site. Drown them in outrage.
Can’t we all just get along?
Sorry, but that is not the way to win this war. The Nazis tried that tactic and it backfired.
You misunderstand. We must maintain the spice flow. At any cost. That is why we are there.Been saying it for years. Heroin and opium is better than gold.
What the General was speaking about wasnt rights. He never said the guy should not be able to do it.
Its about strategy. This move hurts diplomatic efforts within the war, and hampers any pysch warfare we have. Aside from being famous, what is the point of a religious leader burning another religion’s books?
How is he betraying his oath?
No and that is why what Jones did was idiotic
jones is a “religious leader” like the moon is made of green cheese. This is ridiculous. Petraeus should have issued a flat warning when the natives began massing. WE will shoot to kill if you dare attack innocent people. And then DO IT!
One can't study the Koran.
I read it three times, just to make sure I wasn't imagining its contents.
It is an adult comic book, dictated by an illeterate, and aimed at eight-year-old mentalities.
I think its because some people have to be “conservative” no matter what the facts or reality are.
How long will it be before Janet Napalitano declares Quran-burning a terrorist act?
I'll get right on it; at least one a month.
I'll aim for the best award-winning cinematography...
