Petraeus condemns Quran burning as protests rage on

Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.

Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

To the hill, kiss it!

Christians have been getting killed, raped, churches burned, taken over, exiled since this march to the ummah began.

Has ‘O’ or the UN said anything about that?

For example:

http://gatewaypundit.rightnetwork.com/2011/04/muslim-troops-slaughter-1000-civilians-in-ivory-coast-massacre/

The church is running out of food and water... I didn’t see anything on the UN schedule of course.

God forgive me, for I await two words, Deus Vult.

You said it all!

Lots of knee-jerk , Mondy morning , armchair quaterbacks here at times ...Petreus also has to get along with Afghan military leaders, Karzai, etc etc...

I just talked to a retired Marine who works with a mom whose daughter is a Marine in Afghanistan. I had gone right along with the drumbeat here “why are our female soldiers wearing a scarf?!! that’s not right, blah, blah.”

Come to find out that the female soldiers wearing the scarves are getting along more easily with the Afghan women when they interact , talk or have to search them or a house.
DUH...maybe I will leave the war to the generals. ha.

I agree. I think our ROE is very damaging towards actually winning any type of war.

No and that is why what Jones did was idiotic

If it doesn't make a whit of difference, why is it idiotic?

The general has the right to say what he thinks. This is going to make his job harder. Personally I would arrest the imams who incited the riot if I were he.

I am not qualified to tell anybody how to win the war. I see no reason not to punish the village for specific instances. Certainly our ability to bomb them is greater than their ability to bomb us.

While you’re busy winning the war there needs to be a certain amount of negative feedback provided for certain specific actions. Killing a bunch of people because of a non-violent activity 5000 or more miles away is one of them.

Do any of you people on this thread understand that actions have consequences? And those consequences directly affect the warriors in Afghanistan who are putting their asses on the line for you? This jackass preacher has every right to burn the Koran, but his actions pose a grave danger to our troops.

ARE YOU FOR REAL?

I probably don't have as much time served in harms way as this PC A-Hole (and if you doubt me MORON--that he's a 1st Class ASSHOLE--simply look to the "Rules of Engagement" he and his clueless idiots in the Oval Office and Pentagon are enforcing...and if you want to talk about something which is "endangering out troops...") but I bet I have more time (18 months in Nam--WHEN Patreus was still in High School) than you do and know a HELL OF A LOT more about the Quar'an, Hadith, the phony, psychotic, pederast "profit" (Mooohamud) as well as the cult-cum-Religion of (Rest In) Pieces than either you or that jerk Petraeus.

Are you realllly that stoooopid to think that the Islamo-Fascist need ANY excuse to kill our Military--or for that matter any of us "Kuffar/Infidels-- (or if we show them "respect" and work on "hearts and minds") they will lay down their arms and join hands with our Warriors and sing "Kumbaya" around the camp fire?

HAVE ANOTHER GLASS OF KOOL AID, DINGBAT!!!

Yep, a Koran burning is the moral equivalent to beheadings. Beam me up, Scotty.

A good general know that when dealing with Muslims , you want them to fear you, that is the only way they will repect you. The muslims don't fear the U.S military, they know that our government is soft. What we need in dealing with muslims is a military that is so feared that the enemy wets their pants at the mere sight of American troops. This is what would really protect our troops.

In all fairness, I think the general is trying to protect his men and tamp down violence, not escalate it. I think he wants to be seen in the arena over THERE in a good light for the sake of his men and the stratgey he’s put forth in past years there. That said, my preference would be that he not comment at all or make a generaic comment disapproving of any demonstration of hatred, be it toward Christians, Jews or Muslims. My problem is the lack of comment when Christians and Jews are the target.

Is “punish the village” a euphemism for the calculated murder of innocent civilans? We are in Afghanistan with the approval and permission of the current Afghan government. How do you think they would react to the wiping out of one of their villages by us in response to a criminal act by a few residents against the UN?

The Obamatoones are up in arms over one guy burning a book which he can do if he chooses to as a free man. Elsewhere Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Hindus are being slaughtered by Muslims and the Obamtoons look the other way.

A very accurate assessment...

“condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.”

Seems to me they should be “condemning” the murderous fools who “protest” (i.e., riot) for 3 days over 1 book 6000 mi away.

You’re right to question. But the current Afghan government is there in Afghanistan with our approval and permission. We’ve set it up and supported it in order for things to be stable enough so that we can leave. Has that happened? We are now there longer than the Russians.
