When I was a deputy, every city cop knew who the pimps and whores were. They’d occasionally make a “show arrest,” but nothing ever stuck. I never could get a straight answer from them as to why, but I have suspicions relating to corrupt judges and corrupt city officials.
Sad. Just sad. As a society, we must stand up for children. Not in a Hillary “It Takes a Village” way, but in a way that says we won’t stand for have our children pimped out.

The thing that I can’t figure out is why someone with kiddie porn on their computer commits a felony and is a sex offender for the rest of his life, whereas adults involved in child prostitution (i.e., pimps and johns) seem to get off scott-free.

Oakland is a pit. Dangerous place, IMHO. I heard a report on NPR a few months ago (occasionally they turn out a useful piece) about girls actually getting KIDNAPPED in Oakland, taken other places in CA, and forcibly turned to prostitution. The police just labelled them runaways and wouldn’t bother with it. NPR had interviews with two girls who had actually been through it, but managed to get away. (They had been taken to Sacramento, which I guess is just far enough that they didn’t know anybody to help them there.) Heartbreaking.
