Governors are more powerful than you might think; they could, today, radically change the political landscape for the country.
I will now show just one way a governor could do so.
Being that I live in New Mexico I will use that state in my examples; most states should have similar language in their Constitutions.
First, declare a state of invasion; the New Mexico State Constitution gives the Governor such authority:
Art V, Sec. 4 - [Governors executive power; commander of militia.] |
---|
The supreme executive power of the state shall be vested in the governor, who shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed. He shall be commander in chief of the military forces of the state, except when they are called in to the service of the United States. He shall have power to call out the militia to preserve the public peace, execute the laws, suppress insurrection and repel invasion. |
Second, call upon the militia, both organized and unorganized [in the case of New Mexico], to enforce our southern borders security with lethal force.
Art XVIII, Sec. 1 - [Composition, name and commander in chief of militia.] |
---|
The militia of this state shall consist of all able-bodied male citizens between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, except such as are exempt by laws of the United States or of this state. The organized militia shall be called the national guard of New Mexico, of which the governor shall be the commander in chief. |
Third, apply to the Federal government demanding that they send assistance in the form of protection from the foreign invaders just as the United States Constitution requires:
Article 4, Section 4 - US Constitution |
---|
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence. |
So, in conclusion, this course of action is very-much a win-win situation for us: we would be legally forcing the correct action of the government OR causing it to prove that it has no intention of upholding "its end of the deal," thereby forcing it to divest any pretense for the legitimacy of its authority. While the spin in the national media will likely be horrible, any governor that actually did something as daring as this would likely become an instant folk-hero.
>>If Mexico was a decent place to live, they wouldnt be here.<<
I’m sure parts of Mexico are a decent place to live, the problem is that our Democrats ie. Socialists want them here because they’ll vote for Democrats.
Look at our country and you’ll see we have Democrats running the top offices in just about every major city. They write social programs that any poor person would be foolish not to sign up for. Food, housing, medical care, job training, college classes, abortions, you name it. There is hardly any enforcement against fraud at the local level, state or federal until it gets into the millions of dollars per month and demands justice. If you were a poor Mexican wouldn’t you run for our border?
Then there’s the money hungry drug cartels. A bunch of greedy, cold blooded, vicious killers using uneducated peons to do their dirty work. For who? For American drug addicts. Charlie Sheen is one example of the rot in America. The slob who lives in the ghetto is at the other end of the rot scale. Every school in America has teenagers who are drug dealers. The MS-13 gang runs drugs in just about every state in America. Why? Because Americans are stupid and get themselves addicted to using drugs. The pot heads who say they aren’t addicted are idiots. Stop smoking pot for 90 days and I’ll believe you aren’t an addict.
Most of the problems we have in America are of our own doing. The firestorm over the budget deficit are our own doing. They are threatening to shut the government down on whether we should use a cup or a two gallon bucket to put the fire out. We expect them to use 8” fire hoses but that’s never going to happen. We’re in doo-doo up to our chins and yet we refuse to stand on the ladder to get our arms free.
End of rant/ Stop here
While I agree this should be done, we must acknowledge that New Mexico has limited road access to the border and thus limited opportunity to facilitate the invasion unlike Texas or Arizona.
We must also acknowledge that while the Governor can do theses things it will cost we the Tax payer money. Money that we had been paying Federal Taxes for the Federal goverment to do.
That is so funny...you have no idea...I am not making fun of you but trust me it is not possible to shame Mexico into doing anything. You have to look at this from Mexico's point of view- Mexico is exporting drugs to us, which benefits not only their economy but with all the necessary bribes individual politicians and many others make tons of money from drug payoffs. Mexico also exports their poor people to us in the form of illegals- make no mistake about it they actively encourage their people to leave and even assist them. Exporting the poor people to us saves them tons of money. Think about it- if something is not only making you a lot of money but is also saving you a lot of money would you be eager to stop it? If you want to talk shame, the wealthy people in Mexico make fun of how stupid we are to support most of their poor people, and give them so many rights. We are the ones that should be ashamed to be used like we allow our country to be used.
This is true, and it only adds to the shame that would be incurred by the federal government if they fight against their own obligations, or even stalling, rather than doing what they should.

It is a matter of no insignificance the fraud of a “Federal goverment” that has developed in Washington D.C. over the last few hundred years.
Compared to a seemingly endless stream of other usurpation ranging from right to work, to roe v. wade the border failure seems almost a minor conservancy.
From Washington we pay out the gazoon for things we never consented to, while those which we did consent to and demand as their core responsibility go ignored.
In the trillions of dollars they take form us each year you would think they would find money to do more of their basic constitutionally enumerated jobs. Rather then squandering most of it on unauthorized usurpation of our rights, and the rights we have ceded only to our State Governments.
The courts no longer uphold the constitutions of the States nor the Federal constitution. The elite (oligarchy) “do as they wilt.” The serfs have no rights.
>It is right and good what you propose but it depends on a missing element - the judicial branch.
Actually it doesn’t; the judicial branch cannot rule that an explosion of illegal immigrants are not conduction an invasion (per dictionary definition) without giving aid to those very illegal immigrants which is the Constitution’s definition of treason.
>The courts no longer uphold the constitutions of the States nor the Federal constitution.
Which is why strict pursuit of Justice and a hope that it will satisfy The Creator and Destroyer of Nations is what we as-a-nation must do.
>The elite (oligarchy) do as they wilt. The serfs have no rights.
This is why they ridicule and disparage things like jury nullification and citizen-formed Grand juries.
A Grand Jury using its investigative & presentment powers is a powerful check against officially sanctioned criminal conduct.

“Governors have a lot more power than they think.”
Let’s hope when they find out how much power they have, they have the courage to implement it.

Calling to the capitol would be difficult for many. The militia requirement is that citizens have weapons, not cars.
The old statutes generally required people to know their mustering point, and militia leaders in advance, a practice that has fallen into disrepair.
Some states still have militia districts on their maps, but it is doubtful that anyone knows theirs, or where the mustering point would be, and there is no procedure in place for electing captains, etc.
A good substitute would be to order all members to report to their local fire station, as most would know where that was. OTOH, this could result in smaller groups of disorganized people who could then be targeted before they became effective.
Still, I think you have a point.

The state of Idaho is pretty much one, big militia.
grin...

Even worse 50% of our voters seem to like it too.
Not one single incumbent congress person has been defeated, and the approval for congress is around 11%.
Well then we should just eat our peas.
Well then we should just eat our peas.
I’ll admit, that is a burr under my saddle. We need term limits!
