On his MSNBC show this evening, Cenk Uygur argued in favor of decriminalizing marijuana since, 74 years after the feds made it illegal, people continue to smoke it, or as Cenk put it, the War on Drugs is unwinnable.
Yo, Cenk: Cain killed Abel more than 5,000 years ago. Murder has been illegal ever since, and yet people continue to commit it. By that logic, since the War on Homicide is also unwinnable, should we decriminalize murder?
Be sure to view the video here. Not only will you hear Cenk make his nonsensical argument, you'll see Dem Rep. Jared Polis. On the one hand, the congressman went on to make a number of better arguments in favor of decriminalization. On the other, not to be unkind, but the man from Colorado looks like he's been on a few Rocky Mountain highs himself.

First of all marijuana is an illegal drug for a reason.. secondly the effects of marijuana is the loss of brain cells lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, energy loss, slow confused thinking, apathy, and blood vessel blockage.
thirdly it is another gateway drug
You cant smoke pot without getting high. Not these days, anyway. But, I do believe that the trier or very occasional user also gets through that ok.
Alcohol's effects begin after the first sip. It is IMPOSSIBLE to drink alcohol without being subject to its effects.
That warm pleasant feeling after that glass of wine, that mild euphoria from that after-work beer? Alcohol intoxication. And the only difference between that NOT GETTING DRUNK and GETTING DRUNK is when one chooses to stop adding to his alcohol intoxication.
And for the crazy people, you have no idea if those people would have been crazy or anti-social without weed, so your argument sucks.

Oh well, at least I’m not nasty.
If you don’t know the difference between moderate alcohol use and drunkenness, what can I say?
And if you think people take a puff or two of the high THC pot we have these days, and don’t smoke a whole bowl or joint; the way people have a glass or two of wine but don’t drink the whole bottle?
I have to assume you don’t actually know any pot smokers.
The vast majority of drinkers I know do not get drunk, not while I’m around. They have a glass of wine or two, or a beer or two, or one drink.
Every pot smoker I know or have known smokes to get stoned every time.
One can have an “effect” without losing their sobriety. Everything affects you. A deep breath affects you. So? We are talking about becoming irrational, incoherent, physically incapacitated, stupid, and/or uninhibited, here. That’s what should be illegal, no matter how you get there, except for medical situations.
I know enough about pot smoking to know that what pot smokers feel in smoking pot closely mimics what is produced by moderate drinking.
What what do I know, huh? You know people who smoke pot, some of whom have apparently upset you.
hard to argue with that kind of knowledge.
Making drugs illegal does not make them used less.
Marijuana is illegal in the top five countries for marijuana use.

Also, 12.6 percent of Americans smoke weed while only 5.6 percent of Dutch smoke weed (where it is legal).

Maybe. Or maybe they make it illegal there because they have a big problem.
