WASHINGTON AARP lobbied for the new health care law and now it stands to profit, Republican lawmakers charged Wednesday as they called for the IRS to investigate whether the powerful interest group representing older Americans should be stripped of its federal tax exemption.
Three veteran GOP representatives released a report that estimates the seniors lobby could make an additional $1 billion over 10 years on health insurance plans whose sales are expected to pick up under the new law. They also questioned seven-figure compensation for some AARP executives.
"Based on the available evidence, substantial questions remain about whether AARP should maintain its tax-exempt status," said the report, released by Reps. Wally Herger of California, Charles Boustany of Louisiana and Dave Reichert of Washington.

Yeah!
Any organization dedicated to the liberal cause should not enjoy a tax-exempt status.
While always skeptical of the AARP, they completely lost me (and many others) when they supported Dear Leader and his "Death Care," whereby I canceled my membership and started encouraging everyone I knew to do the same.
After doing some due diligence I realized that AARP is nothing but an elitist, lib group of individuals(management) who take advantage of Seniors by peddling products from which they make beaucoup bucks and care less about their members.
Thank you House pubbies. Now if we could convince the seniors who are clueless to disjoin themselves from this corrupt organization they’d fold on their own!
They have wasted a lot of money sending me well over a hundred solicitations over the years...give it up, you damn fools.
I wish I could believe the GOP will actually do more than “seek”.
So far, they seem gutless and toothless.
They keel over and show they are either in it with the democrats...or just too weak to act.
If we can’t change anything at the ballot box, it looks like the game is about over.
How about an investigation that really matters, Soros?

I stuff their return envelopes with trash and mail it back to them. It stopped the mailings after a few times. Same with credit card solicitations.
AARP is an insurance broker
Yes, and that is all they are. Their willingness to support Obamacare despite the pitfalls for the constituency which they claim to represent was based solely on the profit that would be generated by their insurance products. They make a fortune peddling their Medicare supplemental insurance, life, health, home, long term care, and other insurance products. The bulk of their web presence is focused on selling their insurance (Link Here). They are clearly a for profit insurance broker and should be recognized accordingly by both the IRS and seasoned American citizens - they are far from concerned about seniors' best interests.

There is one other possibility.
They sell the products of United Health Care Secure Horizons, excellent products. My United Secure Horizons medicare advantage policy this year is called AARP Medicare Complete. When I reupped I spoke with Secure Horizons and told them I didn’t want any thing to do with AARP, just the same policy as before. I was told there is no longer any difference. The AARP policy is now the same as what I have had all along but they put only one set of brochures etc for all
The other possibility is that United Health Care, the largest I think, has taken over AARP
I cancelled out as well but they still hound me with their mailings.
