Wash. Senate approves $100 fee for electric cars...The state Senate approved several bills Tuesday, including a measure to impose a $100 annual fee on electric cars to make up for lost gas tax revenue, and a bill that eases the transition to a new statewide high school math assessment.
The Washington State Department of Transportation estimates that drivers with gasoline-powered vehicles pay about $200 a year in gas tax. The state gas tax is 37.5 cents per gallon.
The bill now moves to the House for approval.
The Senate also passed a bill that would ease the transition into new end-of-course testing requirements for high school math students.
...
Senate lawmakers also approved a measure to tighten regulations for secondhand dealers of precious metals.

So what if you’re trying to save the universe from “global warming” by “driving” an electric car, the politicians still want their cut.
Suckers!
Get a clue. Govt. gonna make you pay one way or the other.
“eases” ....they lowered the math standards is what they did.....phonies all of them...
Seems reasonable...and certainly a LOT BETTER than putting transponders in every car and watching where and when everyone drives (a dream of Obama, and, unfortunately, a lot of pointed-head Republicans).
“So what if youre trying to save the universe from global warming by driving an electric car, the politicians still want their cut.”
I was wondering the other day how kindly I’m gonna take to one of the EV’s that cuts me off and weaves in and out of traffic on the roads I am paying for. Probably about as good as the bike guys in the snazzy dayglo outfits that ride their 2,000 dollar racing bikes down the middle of the road, four across and then flip me off if you honk to get by.
100 dollar “fee” for recharging.
We knew it was coming.
Just wait until you start getting the Vehicles Miles Traveled Tax on your gasoline powered vehicle. You thought buying the fuel efficient car would save you money but the government does not intend to let you off its tax hook
Fee's never end nor do they reduce in size...they continue to grow and grow...sorta like the OH. and PA. turnpike fees that were suppose to end some 50 years ago..
It is funny when their desire for revenue to blow exceeds their desire to hug trees and get other people to hug trees.
And the potential for Vampire-Care to levy fee/mandates/permits... as anything can be so called “health” related.
$2000 racing bike? You haven’t been shopping
recently. Try $10,000 to $18,000. Even a 200cc
thumper will set you back $3800. The brightly
colored “leathers” run $120 to $600.
A used VStar 650 sells for around $3800. That’s
a small cruiser. A new Kawasaki Versys (650
Ninja engine) runs $7800 MSRP. Looks and
handles much like a racing bike with a much
more “tame” engine that only manages 128 MPH.
I think he was referring to a bicycle.
And don’t forget today’s story about IL now allowing smoking in casinos. Seems that the total smoking ban wasn’t bringing in enough cash. And now states are LOWERING cigarette taxes to compete with neighboring states with lesser taxes. It was NEVER about smoking, it was always about the money. Look how many states rely on the tobacco settlement to help balance their budgets. Quick quiz: who makes the most $ from cigarettes? The EEEEVIL tobacco companies, or the government?
I guess the feel that since obama is providing $7,500 rebates to electric car buyers then these buyers have a load of cash in their pockets for the govmint. I really do have to laugh at this. Not often legislators make me laugh.
That would be in addition to paying an outrageous price (even after the nominal "rebate" subsidy for the damned cars,) and paying the additional utility tax on their electric bill...
That has befuddled me for awhile now....why are we trying to save the planet over bad science????
I’ve nothing against the “idea” of electric cars....but, I don’t see a single electric car out there that can provide the broad spectrum of need for a single car family. If you buy an electric car, you need another for the real world.....ergo, a waste of resources.
And those battery life problems....recycling nightmare.
