Rethinking Sarah Palin For President
Irish Examiner USA ^ | 3/29/2011 | By Alicia Colon

Although I have written several columns expressing my admiration for Sarah Palin, I admit I have never taken her seriously as a 2012 presidential candidate. I've always felt that her greatest asset was as a kingmaker and behind the scenes advisor. In addition I've assumed that she wasn't that interested in pursuing the job but rather enjoyed making waves in the liberal media. The more I read the continuing attacks on Palin and her family I've started wondering why the Democrats and their media lapdogs fear her so much. Even some conservative pundits have determined that she is unelectable because of her high negatives. Those negatives are actually bogus and based on lies and misinformation and there is really only one word to describe Sarah Palin - indomitable.

Bill Maher played to the lowest common denominator and insinuated that Palin was a "dumb tw**t" and his moronic audience cheered. Ari Fleischer, a former press secretary in the George W. Bush administration, said recently that he couldn't see "any way, shape or form that [Palin] can win" the White House. Naturally there was a Public Policy poll that determined that Democratic and Independent voters would vote for Charlie Sheen over Sarah Palin. The fact that there was even such a poll should indicate the vigorous campaign to minimize her credibility as a serious candidate. Who's paying for these skewered polls anyway?

The anti-Palin campaign stretches to foreign media where Canadian TV columnist John Doyle writes in the Globe and Mail that television forever killed Palin's chances to be president. He writes: "television duly destroyed the Palin authenticity. The arc of her national political career began with a defining speech at the Republican National Convention in September, 2008,

Sadly, this place has become a haven for people would would have been comfortable as both as members of a lynch mob and also as informers to the Gestapo. What a shame.

Projection is a uniquely liberal trait in politics.

Troll status confirmed.

Cheers!

Now that you mention it, that makes me suspicious.

One of the (many) attempted memes against Sarah was that "she can't win" -- but among the fellow-travelers who trash Palin, one finds purported support (alliteration prognostication) for those with far lower poll numbers than she has -- but somehow or other, the rival candidates are never disparaged for it by the all the other PDS sufferers.

Cheers!

Look — I don’t know what you think you proved, but you still haven’t shown me anything I lied about. Calling me a liar was over the top and way out of line. You trying to attribute the beliefs/comments of one poster to another, solely based on their agreement on item/post is ludicrous. That is what I meant when I said L.O. is not pissant. I never alleged that you said they were the same person as you asserted (and claimed I was a liar).

As to my positions, I am all about issues. I will criticize elected officials and/or candidates based on those issues. I opposed Giuliani and McCain based on their support for cap-and-trade. When I found out Huckabee supported same, I rejected him. The list goes on.

I agree with you that none of those mentioned above are truly “conservative.” But everything is relative and some issues are more important to me than others. In the end, I don’t see enough of the potential candidates taking the positions I would like to see. When they announce, and all their positions are identified, I hope I am surprised to find someone that will represent my priorities.

Lets see, his argument came down to "She's a woman, and God says women can't do that".

Whatever.

He did get pretty far along on that road if you care to follow it, but for now, I'm headed to bed.

Why you want to defend that kind of nonsense is beyond me. Why you think questioning Duncan Hunter is horrid, but going after Sarah Palin is inconsequential is also a mystery. If you want to explain that I'll check back tomorrow.

Just great. We break through the personal to get to the issues.

What are the issues you find important that a candidate support?

Are there personality traits / character traits / education hoops your candidate has to jump through?

Cheers!

Oh, pleeeeeeeze. Evening Star is not a troll. He’s been here fighting liberalism for over a decade.

Perhaps you should use the comment as motivation to engage in a bit of introspection.

If he trashes Palin, he's a PDS troll.

If he can come up with cogent, consistently applied reasons, and allow Palin's supporters to advertise and post on her behalf without calling them Palinistas or similar terms, avoid posting dirt from Steve Schmidt, avoid "Eeyore posting" and not relentlessly post the latest anti-Palin polls while excluding the internals...

Cheers!

What are the issues you find important that a candidate support?

Sane immigration policy. Sane foreign policy. Sane environmental policy. Sane trade policy. Smaller government, etc. ... That's a long list and more than I have time to get into. And this is not the thread for that.

Are there personality traits / character traits / education hoops your candidate has to jump through?

Yeah - some. But nothing cast in stone.

Ducking out doesn't make you look like you're acting in good faith, you know.

Especially after all the other stuff.

But I'm actually interested. Send a FReepmail if you don't want it on the thread.

Cheers!

Sorry. That someone does not embrace Palin’s positions does not mean they are deranged or are a “troll,” IMO

Let’s leave those terms for the true trolls — the crazy liberals that seek to keep Obama in the White House.

You get pretty aggressive against those that post opinions against a Palin candidacy. You must really believe in her.

Would you say that it is Palin’s patriotic moral duty to run 2012 to head off Romney? To save the country?

I am not “ducking out.” You want me to write a full explanation of all the issues I find important to the presidency, including what traits/qualifications I deem critical? I’m sorry — but that is a very long task and one that I really don’t have time for. Good faith? There are 10 years worth of postings at FR that would give you plenty of info on where I stand on issues. If my opinions are so important to you, have at it.

And, “Especially after all the other stuff” (e.g. you repeatedly calling me a liar and as yet still not apologizing and rescinding the statement), I’m really not inclined to engage in that kind of dialogue with you at this time.

“Cheers”

Is *that* why you're weaseling out...?

You do realize the impression that gives, don't you?

As Reagan said to Carter, "There you go again."

Just spell out what you want, from energy policy, to immigration policy (including the border wall), balancing the budget, Obamacare, national defense, the START treaty, weaponization of space, offshoring, Most Favored Nation Status for China, Cap-N-Trade, Offshore Drilling, nuclear energy, CO2 as a greenhouse gas, Voter ID laws, AGW, EPA and wetlands, gays in the military, gay marriage, abortion, etc. etc.

Cheers!

I'm not weaseling out of anything.

You do realize the impression that gives, don't you?

No. Please, tell me.

As Reagan said to Carter, "There you go again."

Yes, he did say that. But I see no analogy. Carter was mis-characterizing Reagan's positions on healthcare. And your point is?

Just spell out what you want, from energy policy, to immigration policy (including the border wall), balancing the budget, Obamacare, national defense, the START treaty, weaponization of space, offshoring, Most Favored Nation Status for China, Cap-N-Trade, Offshore Drilling, nuclear energy, CO2 as a greenhouse gas, Voter ID laws, AGW, EPA and wetlands, gays in the military, gay marriage, abortion, etc. etc.

You have got to be kidding me. Any one of those issues could take 10,000 words. And if I don't do that, you're going to get an "impression" of me? Seriously, you need to get a life. I don't have time to educate or entertain you.

If you disagree with Sarah, do it in good faith, and on the merits.

Being a "concern troll" doesn't cut it, if you turn around and actively support other candidates with far lower polling numbers than her.

Being a "PDS troll" and dredging up every unflattering news story you can about her doesn't cut it.

Selectively misquoting her, or snippets of old positions from the McCain campaign, which she has changed her mind on, doesn't cut it.

Calling her supporters "Palinistas" or "mindless" or a "cult" doesn't cut it.

*PINGING* other PDS sufferers to threads doesn't cut it.

Lay out your principles and your deal breakers.

Explain how or where she fulfills or succeeds; and how or where she falls short.

Name names for who you feel is better, and why.

Then it can be seen that you are far less likely to be a troll.

Cheers!
