Rethinking Sarah Palin For President
Irish Examiner USA ^ | 3/29/2011 | By Alicia Colon

Posted on 03/30/2011 8:45:50 PM PDT by curth

Although I have written several columns expressing my admiration for Sarah Palin, I admit I have never taken her seriously as a 2012 presidential candidate. I've always felt that her greatest asset was as a kingmaker and behind the scenes advisor. In addition I've assumed that she wasn't that interested in pursuing the job but rather enjoyed making waves in the liberal media. The more I read the continuing attacks on Palin and her family I've started wondering why the Democrats and their media lapdogs fear her so much. Even some conservative pundits have determined that she is unelectable because of her high negatives. Those negatives are actually bogus and based on lies and misinformation and there is really only one word to describe Sarah Palin - indomitable.

Bill Maher played to the lowest common denominator and insinuated that Palin was a "dumb tw**t" and his moronic audience cheered. Ari Fleischer, a former press secretary in the George W. Bush administration, said recently that he couldn't see "any way, shape or form that [Palin] can win" the White House. Naturally there was a Public Policy poll that determined that Democratic and Independent voters would vote for Charlie Sheen over Sarah Palin. The fact that there was even such a poll should indicate the vigorous campaign to minimize her credibility as a serious candidate. Who's paying for these skewered polls anyway?

The anti-Palin campaign stretches to foreign media where Canadian TV columnist John Doyle writes in the Globe and Mail that television forever killed Palin's chances to be president. He writes: "television duly destroyed the Palin authenticity. The arc of her national political career began with a defining speech at the Republican National Convention in September, 2008,

I made no comment on your posts until you inserted yourself into this dialogue.

I took exception with grey_whiskers trashing a FReeper for making positive comments about Duncan Hunter. That’s it.

Sheesh — had you posted what you just posted (”I liked Hunter”) to pissant instead of me, grey_whiskers could be calling you a zombie.

I never post BS except in humor.

Nor do I trash "FReepers".

I am merciless to suspected trolls, though.

Nice try, though.

...and I suspect that if the PDS continues, it'll become a matter of trashing ex-Freepers.

Cheers!

Fwiw, LowOil has posted his preferred candidates at the bottom of his home page. I’m not sure why he won’t defend them, maybe you can tell me.

“Wow, you best tell people who are posting those pics of Reagan handing the torch to Palin to cut it out.

I can tell from your post that you did not like Ronald Reagan.”

You are 100% wrong. I worked for Reagan twice in my State... both times that he ran. I worked very hard for him. I loved the guy. Those pictures are spot on and all that I was doing was making a point that one of our greatest Presidents was himself not perfect... that no one is perfect... and that greatness and leadership are not dependent on perfection.

“The man was a 2 term Governor of the most populous state in the union. He was a fabulous and articulate speaker too.”

Yes he was and nothing that I stated infers otherwise.

“He wrote many papers on policy and conservative philosophy. He ran for POTUS, lost and came back to win two terms.”

He did that and much more... you see... I met the man.

See my reply above this one for the point that I was making... and my points were factual and germane to the discussion.

I am busy twisting a french knot with my nosehairs.

Sounds like you have a heavy date with John François Kerry and Henry Waxman.

Be sure to be back by 11:00 PM.

Cheers!

So why don't you get upset with all the FReepers who trash Palin?

LowOil has been doing that incessantly, trollishly, and incoherently since he came on the thread, which is what some of us have been reacting to.

I also seriously doubt grey whiskers would call me a zombie for my statement. He truly disses trolls only.

Lying through your teeth *again*. Tsk tsk.

I lied about nothing. Your false accusations are disgusting.

You know, I even relinked to one of those posts, before you did, showing how he was enthusiastically responding to the-now-banned-PDS-troll pissant.

I linked to them, too. Are you saying that anyone who ever agreed with pissant is a "zombie" or troll? You think they should all be banned? How about Lakeshark? Is he now a "zombie" "troll" too? You're going to live in a very lonely world if you keep this crap up.

First you and the other dude falsely accused me of calling him pissant;

NO - I DID NOT. If you think I did, show me the quote and provide a link. (If you think I did, you need a serious reading comprehension lesson.)

I called him a zombie because he agreed with pissant about Duncan Hunter

Well, there you have it. Absolutely insane logic on your part.

As it is, it looks like both of you are attempting to tag-team, and failing badly.

Nobody is trying to tag team anyone. IN fact, I don't think I've ever had a dialogue with LowOil. I am sick however of people trashing good conservatives (e.g. Duncan Hunter) on FR.

Show your own posts from the past, where you explain in detail why you like Hunter; and then show where you've attacked any other conservative GOP Prez wannabee, other than just trashing Sarah.

There are too many to post. Giuliani, McCain, Huckabee, Romney... go see for yourself. You'll have a field day, LOL.

OK, thanks for pointing that out.

Here's the list for the record:

Duncan Hunter

Eric Cantor

Jim DeMint-has a strike against him for defending Romney care

Jeff Sessions

Richard Shelby

John Duncan

Mike Pence

Now, let's see if he will trash Lt.Col. West, or Herman Cain, or Bachmann, or any other GOP candidate (especially conservative ones) not on that list.

And let's see if he absolves any of those on his list, from the same objections currently thrown at Sarah (unfavorables too high, too unknown, lack of experience, "can't win" (e.g a sitting member of the House has never defeated an incumbent President), weasel positions, association with RINOs, past voting record or positions, etc.)

Or just trashes Sarah.

Cheers!

Not only did I post them on my homepage, I told on this thread that they was there. I can lead a horse to water, but I can't make it drink.

But I tire of this. Long day, later gators.

I ordinarily try to avoid Palin threads. I just glanced back at some of LowOil’s comments and don’t see anything incessant or trollish or even “trashing” of Palin. I see someone who has an opinion that is contrary to mine — but it seems to be presented in a calm, well thought out manner (e.g. #70).

What is your definition of “trashing Palin”?

What is your definition of “troll”?

It's quite the list, not a viable candidate there, although if DeMint had not said several times he wasn't running, he might be. DeMint sort of blew it lately with his attempt at rehabbing Romney.

The rest aren't running, and wouldn't have a snowball's chance in the hot place anyway.

What I don't understand, and he hasn't answered me, is why he claims Sarah Palin is neither a conservative nor a Christian. It's a very strange claim, stranger than his list.

His argument in his first post was that she shouldn’t run nor be in politics because she is a woman, it’s his chief argument. Do you suppose that’s a position that can be debated or not? My conversation begins with him in earnest here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2697426/posts?page=144#144

Looked at your homepage. Nice quote. I think it similarly applies to Presidential candidates.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President,
or that we are to stand by the President right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
— President Theodore Roosevelt

As I said, he posted comments with which I don’t agree. But there was nothing “trollish” or “bashing” in his posts as I believe was your assertion.

g_w:Lying through your teeth *again*. Tsk tsk.

calcow:I lied about nothing. Your false accusations are disgusting.

We'll get to that a bit further down, where you challenge me for examples.

g_w:You know, I even relinked to one of those posts, before you did, showing how he was enthusiastically responding to the-now-banned-PDS-troll pissant.

calcow:I linked to them, too. Are you saying that anyone who ever agreed with pissant is a "zombie" or troll? You think they should all be banned? How about Lakeshark? Is he now a "zombie" "troll" too? You're going to live in a very lonely world if you keep this crap up.

This is a lovely strawman. Accuse the opponent of something they never did, then blame them for it. Just like Sheriff Dipstick tried to do to Palin in the wake of the Tucson shootings (which were, when all was said and done, found to be the work of a leftist who had been reported to the Sheriff's department as a threat, which should have precluded him from getting a gun -- but had the complaints quashed due to his being related to some County employees).

No, I did not say 'everyone who ever agreed with pissant' is a zombie.

Yes, I did say it about the other dude.

No, I don't think it fits Lakeshark -- he's arguing against members of the PDS brigade, so he's much less likely to be a PDS troll. Wouldn't you agree?

g_w:First you and the other dude falsely accused me of calling him pissant;

calcow:NO - I DID NOT. If you think I did, show me the quote and provide a link. (If you think I did, you need a serious reading comprehension lesson.)

Here you go, like shooting fish in a barrel.

First you (source: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2697426/posts?page=229#229):

calcow:So what? That doesn’t mean they are pissant or agree with pissant on everything.

Now the other guy (source: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2697426/posts?page=227#227):

Hey, why don’t you just settle the matter once and for all, ping the powers that be and ask them if I am Pissant. Go all out my friend.

g_w:I called him a zombie because he agreed with pissant about Duncan Hunter

calcow:Well, there you have it. Absolutely insane logic on your part.

Not insane at all. Look at pissy's posting history of choosing one conservative after another, but always trashing Sarah.

There are similarities there to the list provided by the other guy.

Not disposative, by itself.

g_w:As it is, it looks like both of you are attempting to tag-team, and failing badly.

calcow:Nobody is trying to tag team anyone. <snip>

Note, btw, the timing of those posts. Separated by six minutes. This is why I used the phrase "it looks like". Again, not disposative; but still noteworthy.

calcow:<snip> IN fact, I don't think I've ever had a dialogue with LowOil. I am sick however of people trashing good conservatives (e.g. Duncan Hunter) on FR.

Congrats. Now you know how supporters of Palin feel. Except you don't, because I haven't seen a single person banned from FR for suffering from Hunter Derangement Syndrome.

Nice false equivalency. You FAIL.

g_w:Show your own posts from the past, where you explain in detail why you like Hunter; and then show where you've attacked any other conservative GOP Prez wannabee, other than just trashing Sarah.

calcow:There are too many to post. Giuliani, McCain, Huckabee, Romney... go see for yourself. You'll have a field day, LOL.

Close, but no cigar. See where I said conservative??

Your names don't count -- though if you are opposing them on policy grounds, that's all to the good.

Cheers!

RE :”Primary time: Palin vs. Romney. Who you voting for?

That brings up a good point. Would you say that it is Palin’s patriotic moral duty to run 2012 to head off Romney? To save the country?
