Sarah Palin Is Definitely Not Done Whining About the Press
National Journal ^ | 3-30-11 | Elspeth Reeve

Posted on 03/30/2011 4:19:24 PM PDT by Mozilla

Sarah Palin said she was "through whining about a liberal press" last week, but evidently she's not done whining about the conservative press. The Daily Caller's Chris Moody contacted Palin for a response to reports that her reality show, Sarah Palin's Alaska, got $1.2 million in state tax credits. Palin demanded that Moody print her entire 650-word response to the news. And he did--but only on the second page of the article. So Palin took to Facebook to rant about "having to set the record straight on my Facebook page yet again is further proof that the media can't be trusted even to print a statement in a manner that people can read."

At Salon, Alex Pareene says the episode offers a nice lesson in modern press relations. "Palin made the Caller jump through a ridiculous hoop to even obtain her self-serving statement, which it used to provide balance to what had been printed elsewhere as a negative, anti-Palin story, and its reward for jumping through that hoop was that she declared war. She is a very classy individual." On the other hand, Pareene jokes, "Her complaint does have some merit. If Sarah Palin herself is too stupid to click on the button that sends you to the second page of an article, she can't possibly expect her admirers to figure it out."

I find it ironic that these PDS columnists and bloggers monitor her FB account 24/7 and hang on to her every word just so that they can take their daily swipes at her.

If the commie scum in the so called “media” ever did to me and my family what they have done to Sarah and her family, including her infant, I’d be doing a lot more than “whining”. Somebody would be in the hospital getting “reconstructive surgery”.

Oh, get a life, honey. You’re just mad because your parents named you Elspeth instead of something sensible, like Sarah.

The whole story is a 'whine' from Elspeth. . .Safe bet, Mz. Reeve has ever uttered so much as 'one', decent adjective on behalf of Sarah Palin.

If they could only see/hear themselves for who they really are; but of course, they never will.

Sarah Palin does not whine about the press. She asks only that they report the truth about her and her family. She wants no special favors, just honesty.

It’s wasn’t bright for Palin to make that comment last week. It presented her opponents in the press a golden opportunity to savage her about anything they wanted, leaving her with the unattrative alternatives of 1) say nothing, or 2) rebut the nonsense. Either way, it’s bad. Now they can say, “see, she can’t even go a week without backing away from her pledge.”

While she may be good on many issues, her tactical instincts are often wrongheaded.

“On the other hand, Pareene jokes, “Her complaint does have some merit. If Sarah Palin herself is too stupid to click on the button that sends you to the second page of an article, she can’t possibly expect her admirers to figure it out.”

We really neet to bring back dueling...or at least the practice of horse-whipping a scoundrel through the streets.

I don’t think it can be disputed that most people don’t read all the way to the bottom of an article. Leftards are doing well if they read more than the headline.

Delaying any mention of the rebuttal until the very end of the page—and don’t forget, it isn’t print media; your eye can’t just scan down—is exactly the sort of slimy tactic these smarmy, arrogant, room-temperature-IQ media slugs depend upon.

They knew most people who clicked on the story would never see that one-line statement, and yet putting it there at all gave them plausible (if you have a room-temperature IQ) deniability.

It’s such a cliche that the leftards bring out words like “whining” whenever they get called on one despicable misdeed or another that it hardly bears mentioning.

If they get caught red-handed—too red-handed even to try and lie their way out of it—they try to turn the subject to the “bad” behavior of those who caught them.

“He had to violate my privacy to catch me taking those bribes; that should be the real issue.”

“Governor Palin is just whining when she accurately describes our despicable behavior; that should be the real issue.”

Filthy crumb-bums.

Intellectual dishonesty is not merely the hallmark, the metier, the forte, the oeuvre of the liberal, it is the very sine qua non of liberalism. Compared to this, hypocrisy is a mere spear-carrier in the liberal’s limping army of sophistries, prevarication, and false moral equivalences.

The liberal himself somehow manages to suppress awareness of his own detachment from both reality and honesty, and in fact spends great volumes of energy swanning about in high dudgeon, gushing forth banshee wails of rage at the purported dishonesty and malice of his opponents. Spraying poison in all directions like a rabid cobra on meth, the liberal walks closed-minded through a world in which only he is open-minded, bigoted through a world in which only he is tolerant, ignorant through a world in which only he is educated, consumed by rage, hatred, and malice through a world in which only he is kind and nice.

That I may learn not to hate them; Jesus grant me the grace to desire it.

Sarah Palin is not alone on it’s disgust with a press that doesn’t produce news. Moreover, they produce opinion; much in the template of Walter Kronkite. When I turn on a television news program, I want to hear the news and not some editorializing by someone like Brian Williams who is a Tom Brokaw understudy who is a Walter Kronkite understudy. Brokaw lost me and Brian Williams is following right behind.

When he was Brokaw’s replacement, he was a welcome relief from Brokaw. Now the writers have him convinced that this is the template to follow. It’s a shame because he seems like a genuine person otherwise. I wish he would tighten up and be the person he once was (as Brokaw’s replacement), and tell the writers he’d take it from there. He had it before. He could well be top gun in the nightly news if he’d buck up and stop let them dictate to him.

Walter Kronkite was called the most honest man in America. If you are tempted to believe that, watch a replay of the tears he supposedly shed the day John Kennedy was shot. Then get back to me.

Palin was clearly talking about the personal insults and attacks against her, that she was going to ignore. She never said she would back off when journalists attack her record.

“the comment that she was through responding to attacks from the press.”
__________

She never said that. She said she was through responding to PERSONAL attacks on her, such as the manure that Bill Maher flings from his sorry butt. But she pointed out that if the media “reports” something that is not true or distorts her words, she’s going to HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE, not retreat.

Palin made it clear on Facebook the day after that interview:

“When it comes to responding to the media, the standard warning is: Don’t pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel because calling out the media and holding them accountable is a risky endeavor. Too often the first instinct is to ignore blatant media bias, crudeness, and outright lies, and just hope the media instigator will grow up and provide fairer coverage if you bite your tongue and not challenge the false reporting of an openly hostile press. But I’ve never bought into that. That’s waving the white flag. I just can’t do it because I have too much respect for the importance of a free press as a cornerstone of our democracy, and I have great respect for the men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much to defend that First Amendment right. Media, with freedom comes responsibility.”

“Friends, too often conservatives or Republicans in general come across as having the fighting instinct of sheep. I don’t. I was raised to believe that you don’t retreat when you’re on solid ground; so even though it often seems like I’m armed with just a few stones and a sling against a media giant, I’ll use those small resources to do what I can to set the record straight. The truth is always worth fighting for. Doing so isn’t whining or “playing the victim card”; it’s defending the truth in fairness to those who seek accurate information. I’ll keep attempting to correct misinformation and falsehoods about myself and my record, and I will certainly never shy from defending others who are unfairly attacked. This is in the name of justice.”

“But two decades in politics have taught me that when it comes to picking battles, often it’s best to ignore the truly petty, ugly personal media shots because engaging in a counter argument with disreputable, intolerant people doesn’t vindicate me; it merely gives those people the attention they seek. It wastes my time and it distracts from what we should focus on.”

“We must always remember the big picture. The media has always been biased. Conservatives – and especially conservative women – have always been held to a different standard and attacked. This is nothing new. Lincoln was mocked and ridiculed. Reagan was called an amiable dunce, a dangerous warmonger, a rightwing fanatic, and the insult list goes on and on. (But somehow Reagan still managed to win two major electoral landslides, and this was in the days before the internet and talk radio when all he had were three biased network news channels spinning reports on him. If he could do so much with so little and still be such an optimistic and positive leader, then surely we can succeed with the new media tools at our disposal.)”

“Let’s just acknowledge that commonsense conservatives must be stronger and work that much harder because of the obvious bias. And let’s be encouraged with a sense of poetic justice by knowing that the ‘mainstream’ media isn’t mainstream anymore. That’s why I call it ‘lamestream,’ and the LSM is becoming quite irrelevant, as it is no longer the sole gatekeeper of information.”

“Let’s keep pivoting around media bias, and not get distracted with the vulgar personal shots. Even with limited time we can try to call out lies and set the record straight, but always keep the ball moving. No one ever won a game only playing defense.”

“I’ll keep correcting false reporting, and I’ll defend others to the hilt; but I won’t spend any more precious, limited time responding to personal, vulgar, sexist venom spewed my way.”

“Today, our country is faced with seemingly overwhelming challenges. We have an unsustainable and immoral $14 trillion debt problem which, combined with a self-inflicted energy crisis, could bring America to her knees. The President of the United States is manipulating an energy supply by refusing to develop our U.S. energy resources. Shouldn’t that be the media’s focus today? Wouldn’t you like more information on the deficit that for last month alone was the highest in our history at $223 billion? That single month’s deficit was more than the entire deficit for the year 2007! We still have a 16% real unemployment rate. We had 2.9 million home foreclosures last year alone, with this year predicted to be even worse. Americans who are struggling to make ends meet are now hit by rising food and energy prices – exacerbated by the Fed’s decision to drop that $600 billion money bomb known as QE2 on us. Gas has already hit $4 per gallon in some areas. And let’s not forget that our men and women in uniform are deployed far from home today. From Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, to who-knows-where tomorrow under a clouded, confused Obama Doctrine, our armed forces are in harm’s way, defending our interests and protecting our freedoms.”

“Now these are the real concerns to Americans. These are times when real leadership is needed. We must never be distracted from these real concerns.”

“Petty comments from the small-minded are used to distract. Stay focused, America. Don’t wave any white flag. Simply put, let’s spend our precious time on causes that are worthy.”
