The latest published data from the 2010 census show how people are moving from place to place within the United States.
In general, people are voting with their feet against places where the liberal, welfare-state policies favored by the intelligentsia are most deeply entrenched.
When you break it down by race and ethnicity, it is all too painfully clear what is happening. Both whites and blacks are leaving California, the poster state for the liberal, welfare-state and nanny-state philosophy.
Whites are also fleeing the big Northeastern liberal, welfare states like Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the same kinds of states in the Midwest, such as Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
Although California has long been a prime destination of Asian immigrants and the homes of their descendants, the 2010 census shows a striking increase in the Asian American population of Nevada, more so than any other state. Nevada is adjacent to California but has no income tax or the hostile climate for business that California maintains.
The movement of the black population especially educated young blacks is the most striking of all.
In the past, the massive movements of millions of blacks out of the South in the early 20th century was one of the epic migrations of a people comparable in size with the millions of the Irish who fled the famine in Ireland in the 1840s or the millions of Jews who fled persecution in Eastern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Good stuff on Coleman Young taking down Detroit.
Good. Maybe we can do an exchange program with California. We'll trade you your Asians for our Illegal Mexicans.
I thought so too
My pleasure :)
It now looks like the rats will drive Cat from Ill.
I wouldn't care if they do and I am a Caterpillar retiree.
I just got a statement in today's mail about the state of the pension fund, they send one out every year and this pension fund has to be one of the healthiest in the U.S. - I want it to stay that way.
Quinn and the rats can k.m.a., I'm getting out as soon as I can, after my wife has a shoulder replacement on Apr. 5th and recovers. She doesn't want to have to find a new doctor at this point and I don't blame her.
I'm pretty sure we may be Missouri bound.
Obama has to “nationalize” the tax code so that these migrations halt; the natural outcome is an electoral college heavily slanted in favor of fiscal conservatives, which would consign the Socialists to the dustbin of history.
An amen from the choir!
cape and Poplar Bluff are nice.
I have a daughter in Cape and one in Jackson, Aunt and Uncle in Poplar Bluff, brothers and sisters all over Scott, Stoddard and New Madrid Counties.
Born and raised in New Madrid County myself.
Thanks for the ping jaz.
This is interesting, especially for those who have said in jest that the “red states” should consider succeeding and forming a new country.
Ain't that the truth. I have no "inside" knowledge but I fear for North Carolina. I understand that they have had a large migration of New Jersey and New York Yankees, which probably contributed to Obama's win there, and you just know that they will go to work on fine-tuning that state's laws and taxes to their liking. Poor North Carolina.
Fathers side of the family is from Mexico Mis.
Maybe that's why the rats are busy doing what they can to effectively eliminate the Electoral College by passing these "winner of the national popular vote gets our electoral votes" acts in individual states.
They’ve been pushing that since Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote; it really showed how the electoral college prevented many smaller states from being dominated by a few big ones. Gore had a deliberate strategy in that election that ignored many smaller states; if he had just won West Virginia (never mind Florida - and it shouldn’t have been hard for a guy from Tennessee) he would have been president.
