Rogue U.S. soldiers snipped the pinky off an Afghan teen they killed for kicks - and later used it to wage a bet while playing spades, a blockbuster expose reports.
That's one of the shocking stories in a new Rolling Stone magazine expose of an Army "kill team" that targeted innocent Afghan civilians for death.
Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs, the squad leader and main target of the Army's ongoing war crimes investigation, allegedly sliced the finger off Gul Mudin - the approximately 15-year-old Afghan that Spc. Jeremy Morlock and Pfc. Andrew Holmes are accused of killing.
"When it came time for their wager, Morlock and Holmes said they would bet a finger," Mark Boal reported MOnday in the magazine. "Then they tossed the finger that Gibbs had sliced from Mudin's body on the card pile."
Seventeen revolting photographs taken by the soldiers - including one of a severed head and another showing a pair of blown off legs - accompany the article by Boal, who won an Oscar for writing "The Hurt Locker" screenplay.

I pray to God that the innocent are revealed and the guilty are punished - BUT - is it not gut wrenching to KNOW that it is only our side that polices itself?
There are countless perps on the other side that countenance and plan the blowing up little girls in their schools, suicide bombings in marketplaces, sectarian destruction of sacred places for political gains let alone LIVE BEHEADINGS filmed for the edification of the infidels!

Since when does the decapitation and dismemberment of any individual, hostile combatant or civilian, deserve to be condoned or supported by an individual such as yourself? You are one sick bastard and a disgrace to any military uniform you might have ever worn.
The individuals found guilty in these war crimes deserve life imprisonment at hard labor for not only the heinous acts they committed but for the disgrace they have brought on to our United States Military..........

I know several that have been over there. The ones I have spoken with and spent time with, would not have desecrated a kill. I have seen pictures, though. Pretty horrible stuff that I suggested they get rid of.
One must keep in mind that the last eight to ten years have seen the development of digital cameras. Phone cameras, pocket cameras, etc.
In the past, war were fought in areas that were not conducive to the retention and development of film.
In addition, digital technology makes low light and lousy light photos much easier.
One has to wonder what GI photos would have come out of the jungles of WWII and VN had they had the digital technology.
And since most of these men and women are really just kids, without our years of wisdom (and having seen our share of people self destruct doing stupid things) I would expect them to take pictures of everything, and post them on facebook.
Not trying to excuse this, but explain why you see it now—and why it is more shocking that it had been int the past.
On one hand, that’s just wrong.
On the other hand, it might not hurt to let the word get out to the jihadis that at least some of the Americans are as crazy as they are.
You’re right, of course. Also, FDR kept a tight leash on the media back then. There were no reports of rapes or war crimes in the papers or on the evening news.
But I do think these images will create an emotional reaction, causing the average Oprah-watching soccer mom to take the “Support Our Troops” magnet off the SUV and demand the troops come home. Especially when Afghanistan is engulfed in riots.

First of all, thank you for your service to this country. Second of all, as has been posted on this thread, the video that Rolling Stone has on its website shows “civilians” that are wearing ammo packs and have an AK-47 with them. Third, I was stating a simple point in fact. The rules of the Geneva Convention were written to separate war from civilian populations. In order to do so, soldiers need to wear uniforms. If the enemy refuses to wear a uniform, he bears responsibility for bringing the war to civilians. Fourth, I am not saying our soldiers should decapitate or mutilate the enemy. However, psy opps should be used to give the enemy incentive to put on the uniform. For example, burying the enemy in pigfat, like Black Jack Pershing did to the Muslims in the Philippines. This prevented them from entering Paradise, according to their own superstition. Irregulars need to be treated with greater severity than regular soldiers because they are a threat to morale and our country’s will to fight. Last, for someone who put on the uniform, you have little control over your emotions. I didn’t insult you. I disagreed with you.

Second of all, I never once made reference to the video at RS, I merely posted the results of the court martial trial of the soldier and the undisputed evidence as well as his personal confession.
As for your referencing the UCMJ, as I stated before, there is nothing in there that allows for the mutilation of an enemy combatants body, which my referenced soldier was convicted of.
As for General "Black Jack" Pershing, there is no historical proof whatsoever of the acts he is accredited with performing in regard to his battles in the Phillipines against the Muslim enemy.........In fact, I would go so far as to say that had he been discovered to have performed what he is accused of doing, he would have been removed from the theater of combat and booted out of the military. Such acts would have been completely out of character for this great general. Like they say, the legend grows as time goes on........

As a post script, which I am sure you will disagree with, there is equally no evidence that muslims believe they will not be admitted into their heaven if they have contact with pigs or pork products. They certainly don't like them and they don't eat them but they don't believe contact with pork will prevent them access to their 72 virgins............
