Did the Secretary of Defense need to be defended . . . or jerked back into line? Hillary Clinton apparently thought so.
It was a stunning power play. On Meet The Press this morning, after Defense Secretary Bob Gates conceded that Libya is not a "vital interest" of the United States--but before he could complete his comments--Hillary cut him off. She launched into a minute-and-forty-second monologue seeking to justify US military involvement in Libya.
Gates had to sit and take it . . . and never got to say another word.

Gates and Clinton are both losers, any way you slice it.
Now Gates knows how Bill feels. Ping to Today show list.
A case of ‘Bad Cop’, and ‘Worse Cop’ I guess.....
Gates is gone. Hillary will not tolerate a dissenting opinion.
The Puppet didn’t orchastrate this mess. Hillary and Soros did. The Puppet just did what he was told.
Gates: Appointed by Bush. There’s no way a true conservative would serve this “president”.
Of course it’s of vital U.S. interest to get involved in Libya....oops, excuse me, Lybia....it’s a crisis that gives Ubama an opportunity to build his military bona fides heading into an election year.
It is possible (though we'll probably never know) that Gates has remained because he sees Obama as a traitor and wants to keep the military at least one step removed.
Could you imagine having someone like pro-islam idiot John Brennan as SecDef?
What makes me mad is that they didn't have one coherent voice on for the other side - just more interventionist, old-guard Republicans like McLame and his Indy buddy, "let's-intervene-in-all-countries hereafter" Joe Lieberman because every president since L.B.J. has done so.
Newt was on Fox News Sunday and he was a bubbling idiot who was for being an interventionist right before being a non interventionist. I'm starting to get that old feeling again of being ashamed of being part of anything GOP and it's getting very hard to not just going back to being a small L libertarian who would back a party known as the Tea Party.
Huma Abedin is the one calling the shots on this war.
Clinton is a cabinet secretary. Gates is a cabinet secretary. Is one position a higher grade than the other? Or is Gates simply a “yes boy” to the left.
I didn’t really see it that way. Gates answered the question but just got stopped before he answered the next question. She is going to run for President.
Bush appointed some horrible people in his presidency as well as made some horrible decisions. If Bush is a conservative, then asses are mustangs, Koalas are real bears, and Obama is American.
Can someone post a pic of what "forces loyal to Moammar Kadaffy" look like and a pic of what "rebel forces" look like.
It would make things so much easier for a bitter-clinger like myself to stay up to speed on what's going on in the tiny island nation of Lybia.
That last bit was for any Red Eye fans out there.
She said “Libya did not attack us...but they add instability to the region that is of interest.”
OK, so, liberals, take note, “Regional Instability” is a good enough reason to invade a country.
So, now, shut up about Bush invading Iraq and A’stan.
I thought Gates announced months ago that he was leaving ... maybe to protect what is left of his own honor? In the meanwhile, I don’t see any nominations put forward to succeed him. There was discussion about Lieberman or Kerry. Now, nothing? The Dem roster for that particular job is especially thin. Ana weak.
“Gates answered the question but just got stopped before he answered the next question.”
I felt it was Hillary who stopped him, presumably because she felt he was strong enough in his defense of Obama’s “policy” on Libya.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
It is possible (though we’ll probably never know) that Gates has remained because he sees Obama as a traitor and wants to keep the military at least one step removed.
I’ve heard that theory. But a better way for Gates to help the military would be to resign and tell the truth about obama. No, I believe he’s a Bush rino.
