John and Ken spread fear and loathing in Capitol [KFI AM640 LA]
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | March 27, 2011 | by John Diaz

Niceties and nuance are nowhere to be found in John and Ken's four-hour cauldron of drive-time rage. The kings of Los Angeles talk radio have an unapologetically binary view of the world.

Taxes = bad.

Illegal immigration = bad.

Anyone who disagrees with them, especially a politician within their sphere of Southern California influence, is spared no mercy. They name names, and they call names. "Whoremasters," "teacher goons, "union thugs," "bastards," "business slobs," "morons," "crafty, stinky politicians," "bozos," "rapacious prison guards" and "greasy journalists" were just a few of the names KFI's John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou used in the past week to describe those who have drawn their ire.

The worst offenders, the Republican "weenies" who have dared to even talk with Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown about a budget solution that might include an extension of temporary tax increases beyond July.

The outsize influence and over-the-top tactics of these two radio hosts prompts some frustrated Democrats to wonder: Do John and Ken really believe their own shtick, or is it all about ratings? Kobylt, who grew up in New Jersey admiring the New York tabloids that were "going after all the stooges in government," insisted his hold-'em-accountable, spare-the-boring-details approach was sincere.

"It's a theatrical presentation," Kobylt said. "That's why we cut through, and that's why people ask: Do they really believe it?"

Whether they believe it or not, the Republicans in Sacramento fear it. And that's all that really matters in a state Capitol in a state of perpetual paralysis.

I think by and large they do believe it. It was bad enough when I left that cesspool five years ago. I can’t imagine how much worse it’s gotten since. And yes, I agreed with a lot of what they said.

All this talk of conservatives spreading fear but conservatives seem least afraid.

I love them!

Jeeze, they stand for something. You can’t have that in the liberal hell-hole known as san fransisco.

i’ve listened to them for years whenever i have the time.

they pushed governor schwarznegger into office, but then when he turned out to be a dud, attacked him.

they push the unions—few in the msm do that.

but they have only contempt for sarah palin etc.

If I recall correctly, they were the ones who held Asa Hutchinson’s feet to the fire on immigration during GWB. They wouldn’t be fobbed off with platitudes and Hutch was mighty upset.

These two got their start here in NJ. They helped go after Florio and his toilet paper tax. Helped establish
Hands Across New Jersey.

They got the so called ‘rabble’ roused up alright.
They were awesome and are missed.

“It’s a theatrical presentation,”

Well at least he is admitting the truth.

Pity. Think of all the wonderful descriptions that liberals of all types use to describe talk hosts.

I don’t know what the problem is Jay Leno spent years attacking Sarah. (and Letterman)

Now Michelle Bachmann is the target of their sophmoric banter.

They should syndicate their show nationally. We really need better radio talent in the California Bay Area, especially during the morning commute.

Lee Rodgers was the king of morning radio here, but he retired when KSFO couldn't pay his salary.

The GOP is worried???...ha ha ha...who's writing this article? I LOVE how they print something and suddenly is the buzz, when it doesn't exist except for inside their question. Perhaps that's the case with these two women of tea party beliefs; because they should NOT be on their list, rather the EXACT OPPOSITE. If they are uncomfortable with their delivery (voice/mannerisms/gender) that should NOT be an issue. Only their policies should be on the table.

I've always loved John and Ken and agreed with them 95% of the time...which is pretty good. They are a force for good--just don't get their reasoning re: Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin--not logical. Other than that...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, GENTLEMEN. North of Orange County IS a cesspool of leftists and illegals.

FWIW, I will be on KFI tonight at 7:30, but it’s not their show-—it’s the “Frost” show.

From what I’ve heard of them, they are pro-homosexual and pro-abortion. I think they’re coservative only on economic issues. Any hostility they express toward Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann probably results because those two ladies are pro-life and pro-family.

You’ve heard wrong. Why don’t you listen and judge for yourself instead of relying on others?
