In addition, Windows Phone 7 was delayed for so long that Motorola decided to only use Android, and bypass Windows Phone 7. Wyatt also said that Motorola favored Android over Windows Phone 7 because Android is open source, while manufacturers can't customize Windows Phone 7:

MS is attempting to immitate iphones locked system. Why buy an immitation when the real deal is the same or less?
MS also failed by not including a removable SD slot. Instead they opted for a proprietary coded microsd chip that is useless.
It is also worth noting that the wp7 uses zune which has been just reported as discontinued.
MS is pushing this cloud BS but all I see and hear is the closing of wallets across the market.
Will it have a “Starter Edition” where you aren’t allowed to change the numbers on the speed-dial and they all go to the phone-service for upgrading?
Kinda like the Win7 Starter which doesn’t even allow you to change the desktop-background.

I did read you can’t change the starter background and there is no clock on the front screen which carries through to all screens.
no customizing.
no ability to insall your own mp3 or ringtones.
no standard removable sd slot.
and so on
Why would Moto want to mess around with Windows when they have Android?
It appears that Motorola and Verizon are on my side of the fence.

I have an HD7. I came to it from Android (Nexus One). It is an elegant Phone OS that you can certainly see has lots of potential. The Live tiles, front screen are responsive and the app store has a good number of useful apps that are available on other platforms.
I ask all the naysayers to think back to IPhone 1 or the Tmobile G1 (first versions of IOS and Android) and remember how weak the first offerings were.
The person who is discussing the Zune doesn’t really understand what he or she is talking about, the Zune hardware is likely to be discontinued, the software is what MS uses to sync with your desktop. As for MP3, I incorporated a catalog of 20 CD’s (in MP3 format) into my Zune Software, selected which ones I wanted to sync to my phone and am listening to them now so I am not sure what he is talking about.
As for Verizon and Motorola, they have already picked their horse in the race so why does it surprise anyone that they are “anti” Windows Phone 7?
from what I am seeing around the net is that the tech crowd thinks this is a good engineered phone. (these are the same people who liked betamax)
The end users are not happy and are more inclined to drift to the android rather than another closed system like the iphone.
RIM was pounded on the stock market today.
Balmer should be making heads roll. Whoever thought of the convoluted cloud system as part of the OS as utitlity strategy should be banished to the former Giligan’s island.
I recently took the GF to an ATT store. She wanted an iPhone. She broke my old RAZR i gave her when i got my iphone 3gs. I also have an iPad, so she already had some, limited experience with an iDevice.
Anyway, they had a W7 phone display. The store was quite busy... NO ONE, I saw no one even looking at the w7 display. iPhones, Droid phones and blackberrys, but no W7s. And it’s not like they were stuck back in the corner either.
We had to go back a week later to see if her data could transferred from the dead RAZRs. No such luck. But again, no one looking at W7s.
A very small data sampling to be sure. But I thought it was interesting.

How did you get your MP3 files from your computer into your phone.
Can it be done WITHOUT using the zune?
I have used my windows mobile phones as mp3 players without the need for any middle man software. (ie itunes OR zune)
did you use active sync?
the poster here is the first person I have even heard of using the wp7 devices.
I have yet to see a person just using it.
One more note: while I appreciate the open nature of the Droid OS (I run linux on my laptop), my phone is first and foremost a phone; I don’t want to have to worry about malware and viruses infecting it.
For that reason, I don’t mind the closed garden approach to the apple app store. If I want to hack something, I’ve got my laptop. But at least for my phone, I know the SW I put on it has been vetted to some degree.

Five years ago Microsoft made the decision to invest a lot of time and creative effort to design a product that was to rival Apple’s iPod. The Zune was supposed to be the alternative for the non-conformists who didn’t want to contribute their $200 to Steve Jobs’ plan to take over the world.
Today, Microsoft has announced they will stop production of future Zune devices in North America. The product that was supposed to save us from the culture-defining Apple machine is being laid to rest. All hope is now lost.
The Zune has been ridiculed since it’s arrival in 2006 when Microsoft declared digital war on Apple. CEO Steve Ballmer made the bold statement that “we can beat [Apple], but it won’t be easy.”
Roughly five years later the iPod continues to dominate 77 percent of the market, while the Zune fails to crack the top 5 best selling mp3 players. This is baffling because for the life of me I can’t name one other mp3 player, let alone four.
Microsoft has not officially given up on the Zune, but in a statement to Bloomberg Microsoft said that they are shifting focus to creating smart phones that support the Zune technology.
“We are thrilled by the consumer excitement for Zune across many new platforms, including Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360. Our long-term strategy focuses on the strength of the entire Zune ecosystem across Microsoft platforms.”
In related news they are also excited to announce that the Zune HD has recently been released in Canada to much fanfare.
The Zune was supposed to be a cheaper and more accessible alternative to the iPod, but due to the fact the device is only compatible with the Microsoft operating system it never had the opportunity to catch on the with the Apple-loving public. And as MacBooks have continued to pop up in every office, coffee shop and college dorm, the market for a device the solely operates on Windows computers is quickly vanishing.
In addition the Zune wasn’t remotely successful with inventing culture from technology. For example, when the iPod was released, the white ear-bud headphones were basically a fashion accessory. When the Zune was released it quickly became nothing more than a punchline.
However after hearing the news, that the Zune we were too lazy to give away is officially off the market. We at Death And Taxes are now officially rescinded our offer to give away our brand new, unopened Zune HD for free.
Now I’m planning on framing it, and passing it down through generations of my family, as a pointless heirloom. I’ll convince the foolish youngins’ that in time it’ll have unmeasurable worth, and it will be passed down to my great great grandchildren.
Then one day when my family is short on money (which if they are anything like me, they probably will be), they’ll take the mint condition Zune to a pawn shop or on “Antiques Roadshow” where they will find out that it’s completely worthless.
The Zune may be on it’s last legs, but hopefully the joke will never die.

WP7 is so behind the curve there is a very limited amount of info out there. I was considereding migrating to wp7 and this was useful to me so I thought I would share.
