NSW Labor will be wiped out in its worst electoral defeat in 110 years tomorrow and will only just retain party status by winning a paltry 14 of 93 lower house seats.
That was the finding of a final Daily Telegraph-Galaxy poll, which has Labor's primary vote at just 22 per cent - down one point from three weeks ago - compared to Barry O'Farrell's Coalition, unchanged at 51 per cent.
The Greens sit at 12 per cent and other minor parties and independents 15.
On a two-party preferred basis, the Coalition was up two points, leading 66 to 34.
A party is required to win 10 seats in the Legislative Assembly to give it party status, allowing the opposition leader and deputy opposition leader to be paid more than an ordinary backbencher.
The Galaxy poll found Labor will squeak over the line - with three more members than a cricket team.
If the poll is proven correct, the Coalition is likely to win 70 seats, with Greens and independents likely to account for the remaining nine seats.

Quite a rout in the making. What is the composition of the Coalition?
Crikey!
Are we seeing an Anglo-awakening? Time to ride out of the castle stronghold for one last valiant defense?
For the sake of civilisation one can only hope....
Now convince the voters to stop sending Greens to the legislatures .
The question is still one we ask when we have a Republican Congress and a GOP president; are they going to reverse decades of creeping socialism or are they going to just inch it along a little slower?
Good for NSW! They’re probably going to win My Kitchen Rules too.
After the Labor government's "Climate Change" bigwigs advised to get ready for massive droughts several years ago and then you had massive floods; that should put the nail in the coffin of the Labor party!
Australia is turning more Conservative?..SWEET!!
Get your guns back, Mate!
The Coalition is two parties really: the Liberals, which are more like the Republicans than their name would suggest unless you remember classical liberalism, and the Nationals. They’re both center-right parties, fiscal conservatives, responsible for Australia’s good economic rankings.
What’s the major impetus behind this - is it the result of Gillard’s surprises, or state politics where there’s been a new premier every couple of years, if that?
Liberal (in Oz that’s conservatives) and Country parties
Oh, I am aware that their Liberal Party is not what would be classified as “liberal” in the US. I was curious as to what parties were part of the Coalition.
NSW must be the Idaho of Australia. There are parts of Idaho where the election contests are between the GOP and the Constitution Party. Must be something in the clean water and fresh air which makes people think straight.
Goodonya mate.Thats some really great news.
The rise of the Greens bothers me greatly Labor supporters are leaving Labor because they are not radical enough - some centrists are leaving and maybe voting Liberal at present bur will they swing back sometime and still leave the Greens with a large percentage!
Either way good onya NSW for showing some balls!
Mel
This is great news. NSW is the most populous state in Australia covering the large city,Sydney, and the area surrounding the National Capital, Canberra. Although Canberra itself is a special District something like, Washington DC. This is a good omen for the next national election, although that is probably several years away.
Labor has been in power for 16 years in NSW, a number government ministers have had to resign due to corruption charges and other scandals, the government is seen as corrupt/inept/irresponsible/useless...
Basically NSW Labor became just like Chicago Democrats. The problem for NSW Labor is that we Aussies have a lower bullsh*t tolerance than the residents of the Windy City.
OldNewYork FReeper, Broadly speaking, is right. “LNP” (Liberal National Party - aka “The Coalition” - they’re centre-right; much more so are members of the National Party). There are a few other “minor” ones that would/could, ideologically, fall under the banner of LNP, or would give their preferences to LNP.
In case you don’t already know, the Conservatives (”Liberal/National” party in Aussie terms) won the State election yesterday in NSW. NSW has a new Conservative (Liberal gov’t). The new Premier is Barry O’Farrell. There was a very strong swing to Liberal party, even by those who traditionally vote Labor. It was an absolute demolition of the Labor Party (by Voters), which had been in power for the past 16 yrs. See details & various links:

Good news!
