NEW YORK (AP) -- The city's subway riders can handle panhandlers, rats and tuneless street musicians. But eating spaghetti in a crowded subway car? Well, that's just going too far.

An Internet video that shows New Yorkers brawling over a passenger's right to nosh noodles on the subway has ignited a debate about what people should and shouldn't do in the nation's largest mass transit system.

I actually have two very large bookcases in my computer room that are screwed right into the studs in the wall behind them. They have been that way since my daughter was a toddler. If she had climbed up on one when it was unsecured, it would have crushed her.

Of course, the gov’t did not have to tell me to do that.

We eat on airplanes. Why not trains?

*Why would anyone get upset with someone else eating?

Because some people are self-righteous control freaks who have a pathological need to get involved with things that they don’t consider acceptable behavior. *

Anyone who thinks allowing people to eat and drink on the subway has obviously never taken the subway—or even a bus—on a routine basis. [I’m not talking about “Oh, I took the orange line from Vienna to the Smithsonian on a Saturday and I don’t see what the big deal is” type of people, either].

Going even further than this, there should be also be a law that transit riders should also be relatively clean before boarding the vehicle. Even further, any able-bodied person who does not give up the handicapped seat to the disabled or a regular seat to an obviously hugely pregnant or superannuated rider should be ejected and clubbed.

Exactly. You knew what the dangers were and took precautions.

If one out of 300+ Mil of the population has an accident, the whole country is forced into enduring more laws, more nanny state demands and the never ending parade of victims.

There's even a fresh debate over car seats for pete's sake. It is now being considered to require the age to be increased to 12!! Can you imagine putting a 12 year old in a car seat/booster seat?

These people, where do they come from? I'm sick to death of them.

During a 15-minute ride on the 6 train this week, a passenger could see: a man descending a stairway while baaing like a sheep...

OK, see...I'm totally digging this in particular.

I wish I'd been there for that.

I wonder if there were any roosters in the vicinity?

Rats aren't a problem on airplanes. They are a problem in the NYC Transit system.

“Why would anyone get upset with someone else eating?”

Whoever said this has very little experience with mass transit.

A young man offered me his seat on the bus yesterday. First time that has ever happened. Won’t be long before I can order off the senior 55+ menu from Dennys.

Why would anyone get upset with soeone else eating?

When people eat on public transportation food gets spilled. It just does. It is expensive and difficult enough to keep buses and trains clean without spilled food. People want their bus or train to be clean and inexpensive. Having a rule against eating is an easy way to help accomplish this.

Yep...just more static and intentional diversion/distraction on what’s really important. But sleep well at night the MSM is looking after your interests—they’re the “watch dogs of the public”, remember? And they’ll tell you that too.

Then one day I would expect the Philly police to be sued majorly for throwing a diabetic passenger off when they were trying to make sure they were medically able to function possibly killing them by doing this.It doesn’t matter what you think but someone with an extremely low blood sugar needs to eat imediately or they can die.

Why would anyone get upset with soeone else eating? Did they ever consider that they might need to eat? A ban on eating would mean that someone with diabetes could very well be in a dangrous consition by the time they were ble to get off of the train and be unable to take care of themselves.

Because some people chew with their mouth open or have other disgusting eating habits. If the train stops short, someones food may end up on someone else's shirt or all over the floor or seat, where it is left for the next person to sit or stand in. What smells good to some people nauseates other people. People who eat on subways tend to be pigs who leave their garbage behind. They also tend to be really fat, which makes sense given their inability to control when and where they eat.

BTW, I am a diabetic and I have never had to eat a bowl of spaghetti, a meatball hero, three slices of pizza, or a KFC extra crispy dinner, while on the subway, to control my blood sugar. I do carry a granola bar, glucose tablet, or small juice box in case I find myself in a difficult situation, but I have never had to pig out on the subway because of low blood sugar.

Well because when one is having low blodd sugar they need carbs to bring it up and there just aren’t many in any of the items you mentioned that would be why.

I believe it just look at the responses I got and not a one of them even read what I said. It’s all about them and what they want and not a word about making an allowance for someone who medically may need to eat or take a chance on dying. You don’t always know before you get on if you will have a low and afterwards you may not be well enough to still be able to do for yourself.Gee I wonder what these same people would think if I decided since they did not want someone like me eating on the public transit that they pay for my cab ride every day?

Lucky for you.I have extreme lows and don’t hve the abiltiy any more to always recognize when they are in the early stages.I am not type 2 as the majority are and it is different for us type 1’s.I do carry juice box wth me but with a no eating policy I assumed this was forbidden too? My point was that perhap this person was carrying their dinner home with them when they may have felt bad and went a head and ate?

“Oh this is the night, it’s a beautiful night
“And we call it bella notte
“Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes
“On this lovely bella notte.
“Side by side with your loved one,
“You’ll find enchantment here.
“The night will weave its magic spell,
“When the one you love is near!
“Oh this is the night, and the heavens are right!
“On this lovely bella notte!”
