Unfortunately, among the US political class, this is what public service looks like:
If you were able to ask THEM, they would deny being heroic, rather they were doing their jobs. These were the Japanese equivalent of the American first-responders who went into the World Trade Center, when most people would have run for their lives, literally.
Civilization owes its existence to people like these, not political blowhards.
