Its weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?
Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.
Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOPs 2012 presidential nomination.
That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent
Removing Trumps name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now, adds Holland.
Thats the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to just six. Im trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but its the most compelling explanation I can think of.
As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe theres a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally thats Sarah, but That Guy From The Apprentice out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palins support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. Im skeptical of that, though, since protest votes dont normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.
If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think hed be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.
All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is
So nice to see you on this thread, which I seem to have gotten glued to for far too long. LOL
What is The Donald's opinion upon the Libya no-fly zone? Trump Doctrine on Israel? Do you even know? I suspect you don't. He's never run for office at all.
Petraus has not been named a potential challenger and has no political experience at all.
Jim DeMint has stated that he is not running. But, what is his stance on the Libya no-fly zone? How about Israel? What is his opinion on Israel? Do you even know?
John Bolton, somebody needs to inform him that he's a potential candidate. What does he think of the no-fly zone and in what ways would his postion upon Israel vary in any significant way from Palin's?
Answer these and your criticisms might make some sense. Until then, it just looks like more baseless talking point chatter.
Yes, I do support her, but I do so with a lot of knowledge about the other names that are being bandied about/actually formed "prelim" committees.
I'm not suggesting that you "have to" support Palin, but for goodness sakes............at least know as much as is public knowledge about the others, is all I ask.
I have the sneaking feeling that rather than "new" people coming forward, later, many of those out there, now, will withdraw and names put forth on a wish list, here, won't bother at all.
DeMint is NOT running!
If all of that is factual/true, there is very little to recommend him! He not only flip flops all over the place, but a lot of that is STUPID !
He believes in a SINGLE PAYER health care system, but is against ObamaCare?
He thinks that we should leave Iraq and Afghanistan RIGHT NOW, but thinks that the we shouldn't say when we are going to withdraw, because the Taliban are just biding their time?
He's pro-life, but for abortion, except for partial birth abortion?
He thinks that we should do a one time, gigantic tax on "the rich", but is against raising taxes?
And on and on in like vein, without disclosure of ALL of the mammoth personal and business scandals that are known thrown in.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh !
I would never vote for Obama, even if I was ordered to do so under threat of death. He could have saved a bunch of money he wasted on his presidential campaign if he had only stated several times: My goal is to unionize and socialize the US, and I promise to bankrupt the country before the end of my first term. The same people who voted for him still would have if he had stated his goals in plainer language.
I would never vote for Trump because he obviously knows nothing of the way our government is supposed to work. (But if he shaved his fat head and got rid of the stupid swirly hair/comb-up-and-over-backward-and-forward hair obscenity, some other idiots who are sick of Obama might.)
If these two are nominated as the candidates for the office of president of the US, I will be too busy researching, planning, and packing for a move out of the US to waste the time it would take to vote, and no longer would care who the US elected to any office.
[Palin has done next to nothing to prepare. ]
That is just a flat out lie. I mean, just this week she got back from speaking in India and Israel. I assume she went there to bake cookies?
I mean, debate Palin’s positions, fine, just don’t make up flat out drivel.
But, she got the red dot in India. That's almost as cool as obama bowing to the muftis or imams or caliphateis, or whatever.
I do not think there is a US citizen conservative enough, smart enough, attractive enough, and eloquent enough, to win a presidential election today.
Too large a percentage of our population will always vote for the socialist in the contest. The country is over.
This is not the first complaint I’ve heard about Sarah Palin having no “depth” — but what exactly are the kinds of comments that these connoisseurs of “depth” would expect to hear from her if she did have “depth”? Sans that, it is a (pardon the pun) shallow objection. Sarah Palin has that oxymoronically named thing called common sense (oxymoron because it is not very common).
exactly, and I loved how Trump was like a dog with a bone. they attacked and attacked and he did not let up. Eventually they just had to drop the issue. It was amazing the way he swatted them down and yet didn’t even get argumentative. I wish he had a better grasp of the issue but he is a smart man and I’m sure it will come.
I mean from an electability standpoint. Not personally.
The real estate market is slow. No money can be borrowed. Trump needs a market and other peoples money to operate.. He is bored
He had a TV Show. People ooohed and aahed.
Why not run for President. The Chinese got the best of the man who makes deals. Trash them and get elected.
The Donald should keep attacking and embarrassing Obongo on the the missing birth certificate. Unlike anyone else, The Donald can get traction on this..... And when he does this will inspire a few state legislatures and Secretaries of State to demand a verified long form birth certificate if you want to run for President in their state. If you want to be on the ballot in say, Arizona.
I remember Fredmania. I have a feeling the very same thing is in store for Mrs. Palin if she runs.
[No, she went to India to get a red circle on her forehead]
[Too large a percentage of our population will always vote for the socialist in the contest. The country is over.]
You know what, why don’t you just go shoot yourself and be done with it. You have obviouly given up and no one is good enough or conservative for you. Why bother the rest of us who have children we are trying to help salvage a future for? Just be a negative Nelly, a kibbitzer, moaner and complainer and stand in the way of people who have the hard task of trying to put things back together?
Because Palin isn’t perfect, just throw bricks at her. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Why did she go?
1. To see and be seen
2. To appear Presidential
2. To raise money from disgusted allies
Exactly, some of us are looking to the future. That is why we don’t want a Palin fueled suicide mission.
Well, EXCUSE me! I’m really sorry my opinions offend you. Oh, wait, no I’m not sorry.
Now that I think about it a little, if you can’t live knowing my opinion, why don’t you ESAD?
I have children, too. They have just as much right as your spawn to live their lives in this country. And I do not feel suicidal at all.
I am not standing in your way to do whatever heroic actions you are planning to save the nation. Good luck.
[Exactly, some of us are looking to the future. That is why we dont want a Palin fueled suicide mission.]
That’s just great bucko. Now tell us who the conservative messiah is that is so great? Go ahead, show us the alternative great white hope, so we can all laugh at you.
