Poll: Trump’s entry into the race would hurt Palin the most

It’s weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but … Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?

Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.

Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOP’s 2012 presidential nomination.

That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent…

“Removing Trump’s name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent – essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now,” adds Holland.

That’s the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to … just six. I’m trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but it’s the most compelling explanation I can think of.

As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe there’s a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally that’s Sarah, but That Guy From “The Apprentice” out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palin’s support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. I’m skeptical of that, though, since protest votes don’t normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.

If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think he’d be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.

All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is

She is not a good speaker.

Obama would destroy her in a debate.

How, then, did she destroy Joe Biden in their debate?

And when, exactly, did Obama sans TOTUS become the vaunted extemporaneous speaker? When he fought the eloquent and dynamic John McCain to a tie?

Oh oh...........we're back to not agreeing again.

The MSM would CRUCIFY him and handily.

Oh, he "owes" a whole LOT of people, in politics, foreign countries, and here due to business deals.

GOD only knows what skeletons are in his closets; what's publicly known is bad enough, though.

Listen, I actually want to win in 2012 with a conservative. Not lose with Palin or Huckabee.

Then provide the depth test, man. Cuz’ I really want to know the depth of genius that’s required to grapple the nuances of these trans-continental psychotics...

You were clear the first time. You would vote for Obama (before Trump). I NEVER thought I would hear another freeper say he/she would vote for Obama under ANY condition. You proved me wrong.

Retard post of the day!

Palin is a fabulous communicator. Whether or not she meets your threshold of sophistication is a different matter.

And just WHO is this “GREAT WHITE HOPE CONSERVATIVE” who is going to win the primaries and beat Obama?

And they are both power driven, self serving egomaniacs. I wouldn’t vote for either if you held a gun to my head.

Are you serious? She had no idea what she was talking about in the interview with Greta!

How hard is it to say "The President does not the authority to start a war. He must go to Congress not the UN. Our military should not be backing Al Queada and African militias."

All I heard were cliche's and buzzwords.

You’re too dense to comprehend my statement? You argue like a liberal, but then it takes one to vote for Trump. Goodnight

Hey I got a question. Did you ever hear if he was born in a hospital or at home?

Well, his Certificate of Live Birth is lacking in detail. His mother was Caucasian, and his father African. But we knew that. The only relevant fact for eligibility purposes is the place of birth, namely Honolulu, which makes him eligible, regardless of parentage.

There might be embarrassing details on the long form which backs up the CoLB. But probably not. After all, he got elected, didn't he? And his reelection will not depend on his long form, will it [actually, it will be so far down the list of reasons not to reelect as to be invisible]? It's highly likely the reason he resists revealing the long form is that it feeds the drooling birfer phenomenon, which damages the image of conservatism.

NO WAY !

Even IF Cain could win the primaries and he can't, that would be a replay of Obama V Keyes, and Herman isn't as good as Keyes......whom I've not been a fan of since he pulled the race card several times, when he was running in the GOP presidential primaries.

Go back and re-read your post. You said that you “would vote for Obama before Trump”. That is without question the most liberal post I’ve read on here maybe ever.

Retard post award goes to you Obama lover.

I love Palin. BUT, I can hear. She has not progressed since her run for veep. Platitudes only get you so far. She can't speak off the cuff about anything but Alaska or energy because that's what she actually knows. It is evident when it comes to military actions or foreign affairs she isn't up to par. She didn't know what the hell she was talking about and it was evident to any open mind. The truth is hard to take for some. Don Rumsfeld has been on TV a lot lately. He knows this stuff cold off the top of his head.

I'd love her as veep. She isn't ready to be president, I have come to this realization. If she is the nominee, I will gladly vote for her. I trust her integrity. We could do a lot worse, but maybe we can do better.

You don't like Palin, so you hear with a biased ear.

Yes, I suppose that you could say the reverse of me, but that wouldn't be true. If I thought that she had faltered, I would promptly say so.

This interview was neither the time nor the place for Palin to say what you imagine she should/must say.
