Poll: Trump’s entry into the race would hurt Palin the most
Hotair ^ | March 23,2011 | Allahpundit

It’s weird to think of him pulling votes from anyone, but … Palin? The candidate with the single most devoted base in the entire field?

Draw me a Venn diagram of their respective constituencies, please.

Ten percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican say they would most likely support Trump for the GOP’s 2012 presidential nomination.

That would place him fifth on the list behind former Arkansas Gov. and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Massachusetts Gov. and 2008 White House hopeful Mitt Romney at 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 percent, and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at 12 percent…

“Removing Trump’s name from the list and allocating his voters to their second choice gives Huckabee 21 percent and Romney 19 percent – essentially unchanged from January. In a Trump-less field, Gingrich gets 15 percent, up from 10 percent in January, and Paul goes from 7 percent to 11 percent. Palin is the big loser, dropping from 19 percent in a no-Trump round in January to just 13 percent now,” adds Holland.

That’s the fun part of the poll. The less fun part is that Democratic enthusiasm has jumped to 56 percent, trimming a 22-point Republican advantage to … just six. I’m trying hard not to attribute that to a backlash on the left against Wisconsin, but it’s the most compelling explanation I can think of.

As for the Trump/Palin overlap, maybe there’s a portion of disengaged Republican voters who tilt towards the candidate with the highest name recognition. Normally that’s Sarah, but That Guy From “The Apprentice” out-celebrities even her. Similarly, could be that some righties are looking to liven up the debates for fear of a Romney/Pawlenty/Gingrich/Daniels soporific nightmare. Palin and Trump would both achieve that. Or maybe some of Palin’s support right now is as a protest vote by people disaffected with the establishment GOP. I’m skeptical of that, though, since protest votes don’t normally go to candidates like her who can actually win.

If the Trump vote is coming from people who are simply looking to spoil a ballot as a kiss-off to the top contenders in the field, I would think he’d be pulling more from someone like Ron Paul (who actually finished two points behind Trump) than from her.

All theories welcome. Via JWF, here he is

I don’t care. Those were just links from posts about Trump for general information here for myself and others. See my tagline.

I know what you mean about how it will look (or how the liberal media will talk) if she were to pick a black GOPer.

She should try to pick someone who is well known to have a lot of knowledge and experience especially in foreign affairs and is very well known for their being able to debate very well (as Dick Cheney was).

I meant that when he had his own company........he relied a whole LOT on government contracts.

Boy howdy, if I have to explain THAT, then this back and forth is HOPELESS !

Oh, getting his people out was great for them and sure beat what Carter tried and failed to do, but that doesn't commend him, at all, for the job of being president!

Don't worry.............I'd never hire you.

I’m just here to enjoy the absurd spectacle.

I keep remembering all the FReeper enthusiasm (including my own) for Fred Thompson in 2008.

I finally admitted to myself that he was unelectable when he won just 13% of the vote in the Republican primary in (Republican) South Carolina. He lost to McCain, Huckabee, and Romney. Absurd spectacle, indeed.

Maybe 2012 will be less absurd.

The problem is Palin can't even unite people on Free Republic.

She is not a good speaker.

Obama would destroy her in a debate.

If Trump runs, Trump could win. He’s pick up a heap of Independent votes, who are sick of both parties frankly. Trumps a fighter (see his battles with Rosie O’Donnell, he decimated her), and Trump would go up against the MSM tooth and nail. He’s take them all on. I’d love to see the show. Hope he runs in the primaries as he is the only one I can think of who is unfettered in speech, owes no one, is owned by no one, and is a capitalist through and through, as well as a patriot. Actually, Sarah Palin is very much like him in that she too speaks her mind, is owned by no one, and is very independent in thought. They’d make an awesome twosome.

Obama is inelligible regardless of his time or place of birth because his father was not a citizen

Obama knows that very well. That's most likely the reason why he will not show it.

Hey I got a question. Did you ever hear if he was born in a hospital or at home?

I ask that because many times the birth record of those born at home show the place of birth of both parents.

Oh good grief.......nobody is now talking POLICY and she was so far from being "embarrassing" as one could possibly be.

Clueless? You believe that she was "clueless"? What the bloody hell did you want her to say.........her entire plan for what she would do, if she were president right now? That's NOT what anyone is doing now; not a one of them, and she talked well/knowledgeably about the world situation.

Trump would go up against the MSM tooth and nail.

Polls have shown that the only thing less popular than the IRS among Americans is the Media.

I LOVE Sarah, but I just watched her live on Gretta and she hasn't changed one bit. Platitudes and cliches and political rhetoric. ZERO substance. Her real knowledge of world affairs is surface only, no real depth.

Yeah, this doesn't convince voters or win elections.

[Palin is damaged goods. I like her, a lot, but she’s still damaged goods.]

Now name a Republican (or Democrat) who isn’t damaged goods!
Newt? Mitt? Huckabee? come on, that argument is a non-argument.

NO, I said I would vote for Obama before I’d vote for Trump. I won’t vote for either. My point is that anyone touting Trump for president is a F#^K@NG Moron. Now you know. Retard my @ss.

Hell, I’ll vote for Obama before I ever vote for Trump.

You are aware that Obummer is a proven Socialist/Marxist with close ties to people who want to destroy America and Trump is a proven Capitolist businessman who keeps tens of thousands of Americans in paying private sector jobs? I was just curious.

Name me one, just oNE, possible GOP candidate, who now "unites" everyone here on FR.

You can't !

OTOH, most of the people here are for Palin.

Case closed.

She's a far better speaker than Obama; especially without a teleprompter.
