Steve Lerner’s plan (let the spin begin!)
Washington post ^ | March 23 2011 | Ezra Klein

Posted on 03/23/2011 7:46:22 AM PDT by marstegreg

Let’s start at the beginning: Who is Steve Lerner? Steve Lerner is a union organizer best known as the architect of the remarkable Justice for Janitors campaign. He’s considered one of the smartest organizers, if not the smartest organizer, working in the labor movement right now. A month or two ago, when I began asking around for forward-looking labor thinkers who could give me some ideas for where labor should go after Wisconsin, his was the first name I was given — even though he’s no longer actually employed by his union. There was a good reason for that. At a time when a lot of people in labor have become, if not resigned to their fate as a marginal force in American life, increasingly confused as to how to reverse it, Lerner has a lot of fight left in him.

I was wondering if anyone on the left dare defend this as opposed to just ignoring it. Looks like we had a taker...

Looks like we had a taker...

Good, by defending it they make it a story. If they had just ignored it the only people who would have ever known would have been the Beck crowd, who aren't going to vote for Obama in any case. By defending the comments they expose the indefensible to a much wider audience. And as Steve Lerner said this won't work if it gets out that they Unions are behind it.

After a frantic call from Obama.

In reality, it’s Steve Lerner’s plan to organize a series of strikes and protests in order to force the banks to forgive a lot of homeowner and student-loan debt.

No, Ezra....debt "forgiveness" is a warm and fuzzy way of saying financial institutions take the loss. No matter how you put it, you'll end up in the same place: Financial chaos in a world where contracts have no meaning.

Thank you for telling me all about Steve Lerner, Mr. Klein.

His ‘contributions’ to society have been duly noted.

Based on the contents of your column I have not only added him to my list of worthless pieces of human garbage who are absolutely, positively NOT welcome on my private property for any reason, but also to my list of 'individuals whom I would not traverse a conveyance route to micturate upon were I to observe him rapidly combining with oxygen'.

This little PUTZ had better change the last sentence in his article.

It didn’t come FROM BECK. It came out of the horses mouth.

Lerner was worried about COPS and got BECK in their place.
Sort of the PEOPLES COP.

I liked the plan also because I am extremely upset with the banksters..........

As far as labor being needed in industry, yes, still required in mining. However, labor never took responsibility for tanking the US auto industry. Also public unions, designed to increase gov’t pay and benefits on the back of the taxpayers........disgusting.

I’d wager that this guy has never actually been a “worker”. He was probably hired as an organizer to begin with. I also doubt very seriously if this guy pays a mortgage. And if he does, I doubt he’d be the first to put his “boot in the wheel”.

It looks like Ezra didn’t bother to actually listen to the audio before commenting on it. Perhaps he was spoon fed this information by “someone”. There is absolutely no way that any strategy he discussed wasn’t a form of treason.

“Justice for Janitors” has been shaking down CA companies for 15 years.

They tend to pray on companies who value good public relations and are too busy to want to get dragged into a media circus. Much of Silicon Valley fell to these monsters.

It looks like Ezra plans on blaming the banks for Lerner becoming so angry as to plan the destuction of our economy. “IT WAS THE BANKS FAULT!” I believe we have just discovered their strategy to defend him.

Lerner has had it out for JP Morgan for quite some time.

The “remarkable” Justice for Janitors program Lerner was responsible for resulted in civil disobedience and arrests. It was “organized” by Lerner because 16 janitors were laid off in two Century City buildings owned by JP Morgan

http://laist.com/2010/08/26/century_city.php

Lerner seems to have a real grudge against JP Morgan.

Of course. Lerner may have made the comment about not getting into detail due to the fact he was unsure if there were any law enforcement members in the audience in a joking manner, but I don’t think he really was.

As loony as this all sounds, I would not dismiss him out of hand. He has most certainly chosen the right target. There is a boiling cauldron of populist anger against the big banks out there, and someone is sure to try and harness it for political advantage.

“Debt forgiveness’ also means We the People pay for the STUPID university students’ loans, so they can be propagandized by the liberal professors to work against the very America that helped them get educated.

It is all very wrong.

*Forcing* banks to forgive loans is a fancy euphemism for something more commonly referred to as “bank robbery”.
