Upon Governor Palin’s arrival Israelis will be celebrating the festivities of Purim.
Purim is the day Jews celebrate the story of Esther. It’s a very festive day. Kids dress up and food gifts are distributed to family and friends. People are very joyous and its common to see lots of singing and dancing in the streets. It’s customary to drink lots of wine on Purim. It is also a day of giving a lot of money to charity.
Everywhere in the world, including most of Israel, Purim began at sundown on Saturday night and ends after sundown on Sunday night.
In Jerusalem however, Purim takes place one day later and begins at sundown Sunday and ends after sundown Monday.
Governor Palin will join Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for dinner in Jerusalem on Monday evening; The Purim dinner!

That's going to be a major liability as a Presidential candidate. Like it or not, fair or not, the short guys lose far more often than not. Maybe they can make a special 12" high box for him to stand on during the debates or something.
That he's sounded like an overly collegial, aisle-crossing, double-crossing RINO of late seals it more for me than his being vertically challenged, a big "no" on Mitch Daniels.
Have you read what we have been saying about good old Pissant? You going for next in line? The headline is what is is, read the stupid article. They were having fun, and I thought it was funny.
If this bothers you, take it, put it in your pipe and smoke it. This is the third post attempting this sad sad point, and it was vacuous to start with as I acknowledged that the author intentionally misdirected the reader with this headline, but stated that they were sharing a deeper truth as well. Many Israeli's pray every night that this woman might replace Haman's left had man who occupies the White House currently.

As they say, take it up with the big guy. As for Jews, it isn't a matter of belief as much as it is a commandment which is part and parcel to the celebration of Purim. There are 4 glasses of wine involved in Passover celebrations and it is the height of error to become intoxicated or even impaired as this would be an affront to the observance and the sacred moment. The Passover celebration is the substance of the Christian last supper and the foundation of the practice of communion, except if anyone has ever attended a Jewish Shabbat service they will note that Kiddish and Motze are always part of this service (Bread and Wine and the blessings said over these) and this practice is thousands of years older than Christians have been doing it in the form of Communion.
As far as your point about what does one learn by drinking to the point where one cannot tell Mordechai from Haman, this is a qood question. First, as it is a commandment, in that we follow it we keep the commandments and remember what we are asked to remember. So, remembering the 10 Commandments is but part of remembering all of what we learn to live a holy life. We learn that people who are drunk do silly things and we learn that the next morning it is time to suffer the hangover. Most importantly, we learn not to look down our noses at others who suffer and make terrible mistakes, and we learn that this is only acceptable behavior one night a year. The rest of the year, keeping the commandments means keeping our heads about us. Thats enough for me, but if you are really interested, I am sure I could find commentary on the why of this because it is not something that is a "mysterious" commandment, ie one that is bizarre but done regardless of being insane. It is odd though, and much time has been spent by a number of scholars explaining this requirement. You will find in time and in various faiths, this same festival is recreated in this same time frame under the heading of "Carnival" in preparation for the Lenten fasting that precedes Easter, which by the by, is in lock step with the Passover observance which prohibits leavened bread in any form.
In all things, moderation. Getting sauced one day out of the year isn’t a big deal. Now if you do it 365 days out of the year, that’s a whole other kettle of fish.
Frankly, this is the forth post to mention this, and it is just as lame. I didn't write the headline. I just reported it.
If you had read what I wrote about it initially, read the article, or read any of my other posts on this subject, it is hard to understand how you could still be caught on this minute point. SO YEA, I am getting a bit irritated. I remember another guy who played this same game, and if you want to recreate it, just understand many folks around here have had their fill.
In many ways, I have to think this is part of the point. For many Jews, doing this on the other 364 other days isn't cool. Yeah, I did in fact notice that so many of you are inordinately obsessed with him. Talk about living in somebody's head rent free, pissant played you all like a drum. You treat him the same way the left, especially the MSM, treat Bush. He's gone and you still can't get him out of your minds.
As for your threat...when you yourself get the power to zot any freeper just because he doesn't drink the palin-aid then take your shot.
It wasn't me who done him in, it was his own words. But, you are walking down this same path. I don't know you from Adam, though I seem to remember your screen name. I liked Pissant, I hated to see him go. But, I recommended it just the same.
Bring something real to the table, not stupid or sarcastic and there will always be a place here for good data and good arguments. Bring a bucket of crap, become disruptive or just keep playing PDS Troll and you can find the same path to the door, in spite of having the resume of what would seem like a kind of neat guy. You've been around long enough to know what this place is about. I think folks are just coming to grips with his being banned, he had nine lives, he just used one too many.
I am sure folks will let it go if the PDS crowd doesn't continue to be a constant presence of raging bores.
Its not a threat to tell someone that they are playing in dangerous waters, I begged Pissant to listen but he didn't. It is a bit of caring. I for one am just fed up with crap like you tried to pull. If its not a constant thing, I am sure nothing will come of it, but if you are in the habit of playing Pissant, understand that a 2001 membership date is no protection. By now, you just should know better.
All things being even, folks finding and posting negative things about Palin are an aide to the conversation, the real point is to make sure you are bringing up real issues, real facts and once it is addressed, you have to let go and go to the next point.
Personally, when everyone here was going nuts about Scott Brown, I was saying, don't fall in love with this guy, he is a RINO. And folks were going, Brown for President and all and I knew in just a few months he would show his true stripes. The guy is awesome because he managed to get elected in Massachusetts, he is double awesome because he is nominally better than Snowe or Collins and certainly much better than Spectre, but conservatives just have to understand this guy is who he is, and not run to worship him.
Some folks see Palin this way, it is a point that can be argued, though, this is pretty much old news now because every piece of negative crap that could be found has been publish ceaselessly already.
The reality of Palin is that she governs more moderately than folks have projected on to her. She will respect the law over an ideological issue, and believes that fighting corruption and cutting spending are her two highest priorities though energy independence is a very close third. But, don't expect her to push radical social conservative reforms on people who aren't interested. She leans far more Libertarian than many politicians we have experience with and this will be a surprise to some of the most doctrinaire. She supports Title 9 because she sees it as how she got the opportunity to participate in Sports, and I don't know if dismantling this will be a big passion for her. But, from the point that much will have to be dismantled no matter what, she is one of the few pols who is willing to get into the fray and deal with the very real and present mess that the Democrats have brewed for America.
Deal in facts, people will listen. Deal in smears, be purposely obtuse when someone is making a joke so that you are just a bore, and folks won't be glad to see you around. Its that simple.
No worries. I had to laugh when I saw the headline, but the paper quickly corrected the impression and I made sure to post this and comment that the headline was a bit of a trick. But, as I thought about it, I found it was an insightful double entendre, because, for many Jews in Israel, she is who they privately hope will win and they are truly glad she is visiting. They know she won't abandon them or betray them, and these are scary times for those who live under the umbrella of Iran's coming strike zone.
Me too. Pacing and portion size are the secret.

The rabbis of the Talmud paid close attention to the nature of the obligation. On Passover, the four cups of wine are for joy and for sanctification, but they also have symbolic associations with the expressions that God used for Israel's redemption. On Purim, however, the wine (or liquor) is not symbolic. It is functional. Consequently, the nature of the obligation is not defined by volume, but rather, by the effect upon the drinker.
Are you serious? I've been to some awful liberal shuls. But even I've never seen anything that bad.
