JUAN WILLIAMS: I Get Nervous Walking Past Young Black Men

Steven Loeb
Mar. 19, 2011, 10:15 AM

[snip]

The most interesting part of the interview came at the end with this exchange, especially since it seemed to come out of nowhere:

Helmand: "I happen to agree with Schiller that your comments were bigoted. I think that if I were to say that I clutch my purse every time I walk by a black man that might resonate with a lot of Americans. It might be the truth but it's a bigoted statement. I certainly wouldn't have fired you but I do think there was some truth in that video that we don't get to talk about because we are afraid to have actual discourse in this country."

Williams: "I can't believe that you just said that. You think that simply saying what you think is evidence of bigotry that all of a sudden it's as if you were walking by a black man that would mean if you were bigoted if you were somewhat nervous. Let me just tell you, with the amount of black on black crime in America, I get nervous and I'm a black man. So, I mean, wait a second..."

Helmand: "There we go again, Juan. I would find that to be racial profiling that's a bigoted comment."

Williams: "That's a bigoted comment?"

Helmand: "Yes it is. Just like your comment about Muslims."

Williams: "I'm the father of black young men and I'm saying that if you saw a couple guys walking around looking like thugs down the street late at night, you're saying 'Oh, I'm not going to think it through.' Caroline, I think you are way off base."

If young, black men who are acting and dressing like punks aren’t trying to effect nervousness, what are they doing? If they wanted to mug you without making you nervous, they would look and act better.

Racist you say? In the wrong situation, the wrong place, nervousness is a reality that would strike all but the densest among us.

But don’t worry. These things have a way of turning around. There was once a time when black men feared groups of white men, and sensibly so. Were they racist?

I’ve never heard this doofus express anything but absolute lock-step “progressive” babble about any subject.

What ever happened to 'the truth shall set you free'?

You are right in saying that liberals possess no street smarts OR common sense. They would rather be attacked and possibly killed rather than someone think of them as being racist. Just a real stupid crazy outlook. To a liberal, being called and thought a racist is the worse crime imaginable.

Moonbat liberals are sick, sick, sick.

This lady was textbook on the moonbat taking points. From corporate welfare to big business controlling the news to tea partiers are racist to the US is a very wealthy but unjust country so we can afford all the lib priorites...and continued public funding for NPR and all her other pet lib social engineering programs will in time, no doubt undo all these evils.

Jesse Jackson said the same thing, and it was the one time, I believe, that he spoke without bias from the heart.

I personally find Juan Williams a worthwhile gentleman, and consistently candid in a similar way. I also usually disagree with his policy positions.

Cultural Marxism is the origin of Political Correctness which is used to destroy freedom of speech (and thought). It is to kill logic and reason which always will destroy the nation from within (Marxist intent). Truth and debate has to be allowed for effective societies.

They would have double/triple fired him over that one.

No matter the color of the kids skin, if I saw a group of 5 kids sporting gang signs hanging out in a parking garage, I would be concerned.

Just, WOW! Everyone here should watch that interview and pass it on to everyone they know. That was something to see, the perfect example of why you should never take a dull knife (her) to a gun fight (Juan). He just moved up a few notches on the list of Dems I can stand to listen to, although, admittedly, it is a very short list. O’really would never have been able to carry that off.

Jesse Jackson once said the same, exact thing.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson once said, “There is nothing more painful for me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery—then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”

NYT, By Jeffrey Goldberg, Published June 20, 1999

''There is nothing more painful for me at this stage in my life,'' Jesse Jackson said several years ago, ''than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery -- and then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.'' Jackson now says his quotation was ''taken out of context.'' The context, he said, is that violence is the inevitable byproduct of poor education and health care. But no amount of ''context'' matters when you fear that you are about to be mugged.

The Big Lie of cultural Marxists is that profiling is irrational. It is irrational to NOT profile. Stereotypes are always reached by reason and logic and facts. There is a reason Israel profiles who takes their flights and why they have the safest airlines and the cheapest methods to insure safety.

The Marxists are trying to throw out reason and logic for their irrational Postmodernism....upside down logic.....No Truth allowed. It will destroy our nation—and that is their intent.

Why we allow it is because they have used Alinsky-type tactics to marginalize and target anyone who disagrees with their irrationality....like homosexuality is good.....Blacks and White have same crime rates....BIG LIE!

About 6 or so years ago at a South New Jersey college, a white kid was signaled over by about 5 black kids asking him for directions.

He kindly obliged and was stomped to death.

There had been several previous incidents of black-on-white crime there already, - - but the powers that be kept them quiet (college, police, local papers).

I’d wager that the several shocked and dumbfounded witneeses to this crime might be a little scared to this very day of approaching blacks.

I’d also wager they’d be called racist because of it.

BTW, - - I do know the perps were never caught, - - but I can’t say for sure I know they were ever looked for . . .

Could someone clarify the spelling of this Socialist Professors name? Isn't the spelling of her last name “Heldman”?

All whites are bigoted racists.

Yep.

Liberals are at War with truth and common sense.

If I stick my hand in a fire and get burned, then I am careful around fire from then on. Does that make me ‘prejudice’ against fire? A Liberal would say, yes.

According to a Liberal, nothing in your past experience or knowledge should guide you actions in any given situation.

This is completely contrary to human nature and is, in fact, a form of insanity or retardation which accurately define the PC mentality of a typical Liberal.

Remember, these are the guy trying to cram that ‘Religion of Peace’ crap down our throats in the face of absolute overwhelming evidence that this notion is crazy.
