UN OKs Libya airstrikes, no-fly zone

UN OKs Libya airstrikes, no-fly zone Military action could follow within hours; Gadhafi tells The U.N. Security Council authorized a no-fly zone over Libya and called for Arab states and others to use "all necessary measures" to protect civilians from attacks by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

The resolution passed 10-0 with five abstentions.

The resolution establishes “a ban on all flights in the airspace of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya" while excluding an occupation force. It also calls for freezing the assets of the Libyan National Oil Corp. and the central bank because of links to Gadhafi.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe flew to New York Thursday to press the case for speedy Security Council approval.

The world is "living one of its great revolutions that changes the course of history," Juppe told the Security Council just before the vote.

The United States, France and Britain pushed for speedy approval because Gadhafi's forces are advancing toward opposition-held Benghazi. The Libyan leader vowed Thursday night to oust the rebels from their eastern stronghold.

Thousands of anti-Gadhafi protesters cheered and let off fireworks on Friday to celebrate the vote. Al Jazeera television showed the crowd firing guns in the air, setting off fireworks and waving flags from the monarchy era in celebration.

>>>>>>U.S. Air Force: F-22 expected to be used in 'early days' of any Libyan no-fly zone<<<<<<<

Chicoms eagerly await one for their R & D (Reverse engineer and Duplicate) program.

Perhaps cheaper to send them one gift-wrapped.

Now that the No Fly zone won’t help, we’ll put it up.

Thank you for supporting the UN. :)

Tennyson’s “Charge of the Light Brigade” has no quantifier for today’s Marine Corps. Think about that. Give me a light squad, two radios, and I’ll secure Tripoli!

As Krauthammer just said, it’s bizarre that we would seek the approval of the butchers of Tienanmen before doing this.

Relinquishing our sovereignty to the U.N. The Bozo in the White House is....fill in the blank!

WORTHLESS!!!!

Or does the blessing of the “international community” now do the job of Congress?

If Congress doesn't have the spine to defend their own authority it just might.

Perhaps cheaper to send them one gift-wrapped.

After having a Dem Pres. who traded our most cutting edge ballistic missile tech to China for a few paltry campaign bucks I could hardly put it past this one to arrange that.

We might as well take out regime targets and encircle Tripoli with Marines (and take the oilfields under Quadaffi control).

Why are we wound up about France’s oil supply. Not our problem and not one dollar of american time or money should be spent on this.

I’m sure the Useless Nations will act with all due speed. Probably about two hours after the last rebel is dead.

The reason I support this is because Ghaddafi will be replaced by some evil person and that will force the evil person to show his face. Then we can kill the evil person. WW2 has shown use that peace can be achieved through killing many people.

Why is it okay to fly training missions and drop bombs on ranges, but it is not okay to participate in real world training?

You have to understand folks, this will be a DIFFERENT kind of war, a war run by DEMOCRATS, like Clinton’s war against Serbia.

Those wars are GOOD, and dead people get dead DIFFERENTLY in Democrat Wars than they do in Republican Wars. Just ask any anti-war protester about this, not that you’ll be seeing many.

And you won’t be seeing the dead, because dead people killed in DEMOCRAT WARS are invisible. Just ask anyone at CBS,ABC,NBC, MSNBC,NPR, or CNN about that.

The Anti-War groups won’t be protesting this war

Libya's nukes were given to Bush and are in Oakridge, Tennessee today. He was neutered in 2004.

I'll bet the pres__ent was surprised there was no veto. Will he commit US forces into action but still go to Rio? Why, this vote could mess up his vacation.

Speaking of which, if the CR wasn't passed, would his vacation be canceled due to lack of appropriation? Too bad they didn't test those waters.
