IT'S a tale of David and Goliath at an outer western Sydney school - with Goliath fighting back against his much smaller schoolyard bully.
But now the bully's mother has retaliated against her son's victim and the video footage of the fight which has gone viral.
The emotional mother of Ritchard Gale, Tina, told the Seven Network last night that she and her family have been victimised by the footage, which has spread worldwide. She also demanded an apology from the victim.
"We don't need this posted everywhere," she said. "I would like him to apologise."
She said she was "shocked" at her son's behaviour, but did not think he deserved to be bodyslammed by Year 10 student Casey Heynes at Chifley College's Dunheved Campus, St Marys.
"I was actually shocked because I always brought my three children up to walk away from fights," she said.
The video footage of the Year 7 boy, who was hurled to the ground after trying to start a fight with the larger student, was taken down from the YouTube website, but has been posted on websites globally.
At thetelegraph.com.au, the footage was viewed four times more than the devastation that has struck Japan.
The controversy over whether Casey's retaliation was appropriate dominated website and radio programs yesterday and became the subject of global online forums.
The international interest comes on the eve of the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. The focus of tomorrow's campaign will be bystanders.
Casey didn’t send this you tube viral. Why should he apologize? The little punk deserved what he got. Casey gave him every opportunity to back off and he was to stupid to do so.
Full video shows the little guy landing several punches into the big kid face. When the big kid started to react, the little kid started to do the shuffle and throwing punches at the big kid only to be grappled and lifted up by him and slammed onto the hard school yard. The big kid immediately left him there. It was a pretty hard slam and the little kid could hardly get up and walk straight. Definitely in great pain. I think the little guy deserved it, but someone need to counsel the big kid about his unusual strength. Granted kids fight, but really in the end one does not want one kid inadvertently kill or cripple another one. But I guarantee no one in the school will bully the big guy anymore.
As someone in an nearly identical situation as a kid, I salute you.
I put up with the miserable little punk’s harassment for three years in middle school, but in my high school freshman year I’d had enough. I didn’t say a word to him when he started the crap up, but stuffed him in a locker with a quiet whisper.
Interestingly enough, the shop teacher saw it and sent us both to the principal. The little freak bawled his eyes out in front of her; I didn’t flinch.
I never had problems again. Amazing what a locker door will do, eh?
BTW, I am a girl. :)
Yeah, the only question I have is whether the big guy makes a habit of doing this to other kids. If so, that might change my opinion.
“mum” needs to thank Casey....
if her angel had gotten away with this behavior, he may not have learned his lesson, and next time he may not be so lucky to LIMP and HOP away....
I don’t think the big guy makes any habit of this. If he did, no one would start anything with him, and he is obviously not the one who starts things.
In that case, the fat kid becomes the bully & the aggressor and will deserve to have the sh_t kicked out of him if or when that would be the case.
Why conjecture about what may or may not happen down the unknown future, as if that has any relevance to what just happened? For now, the little punk who threw multiple punches (the bully & the aggressor in this case) got his just rewards body slammed and he deserved it.
I would be willing to bet that the larger fat kid has been the recipient of multiple taunts & bullying from the little twerp & his delinquent buddies. Personally I like how it turned out.
The rotten apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The runty punk got off light.
He should have been kicked while he was down for being such a little penis .
That has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve seen yet. I had to show it to my son. We had a good laugh. But I think the kid should have kicked the kid in the ASS a couple of time before walking away.
Hey if you are going to be stupid enough to punch someone bigger then you in the face then you deserve your smackdown.
This whole thing was obviously a set-up, designed to humiliate Lennie, with a videographer at hand to record his humiliation. I suspect that the little prick had backup, too: the big guy who briefly stomps after Lennie after the kid is slammed to the school yard was no doubt there all along to add to the intimidation. My experience with bullies is that they tend to travel in packs.
Lennie needs to be very careful around this pack; in the real world, they are very capable of laying in wait for him and attacking in force.
The stupid mother should be forced to read Ender’s Game, and thank God her son didn’t pick on someone who had made Ender a role model.
This isn't the first little punk who played victim after getting what he asked for.As it was, an older boy than the victim of the bullying attack started to make a great portrayal of the clueless football referee who sees the second punch, and rewards the first puncher with a penalty assessed against his victim. A tall girl about his own age waved the "referee" off, or the victim could have been victimized for real.
The victim acted sensibly, and has reason to be grateful to that girl.
What a dumbass kid, bet he will be thinking of that ass kicking a long time.
Just because someone is weighs a lot doesn't make them strong. Clearly he was stronger than the wiry little bully who showed off by harassing someone older and bigger, but even if he had wanted to bully the smaller kid he couldn't because although he was big enough to chase he obviously could never catch him. So once he decided to engage, he wanted to make the one opportunity count rather than just encouraging the punk some more by being ineffectual. My experience with bullies is that they tend to travel in packs.Tiny Tim should have taken that possibility into account. "Lennie" considered following up, and decided to leave well enough alone.
I saw that quite differently. the videographer, I presume, took the video on a cell phone, only picking up the action after Tiny Tim had started in on it. The big guy who threatens "Lennie" is the "referee" who assesses a penalty on the football lineman who punches back. Had he been a bully himself, and in league with Tiny Tim, he wouldn't have been easily dissuaded from intervention by the girl who obviously had seen the whole incident and sided with "Lennie." The girl isn't afraid of him, which makes it seem unlikely that he is a bully himself. The videographer posted the video on the web, documenting that "Lennie" was in the right. Had the videographer been in league with Tiny Tim, that video never sees the light of day.
Twenty days suspension for being stupid on the playground - after he already had his comeuppance at the hands of "Lennie?" Wildly excessive.Any suspension at all for defending himself? Totally inappropriate.
Kid got what he deserved. Mom should go after his friends who appear to have known that this was about to take place and taped and posted the video. Obviously it didn’t go according to script. The WWF should consider flying the victim and his family to the US to attend a wrestling show.
Good friend of mine has a son who small for his age in high school and was picked on by two upperclassmen. Went to the administration who did nothing. One day his son comes home beat up and my buddy had enough. Knew who the kids were and went to their homes to have a little chat with the dads. Told them in no uncertain terms that the next time his son comes home complaining about getting bullied he was coming to their house to kick their ass. After that he was never bullied by those two students. Helped that he is 6’4” and about 240.
Dear Mrs. Gale,
I'm sorry your son managed to injure himself by falling on the floor in such an awkward position. I'm sure it wouldn't have happened, if you had taught him better manners.
I'm sorry, too, that you feel victimized by the video of his accident going viral. When his friends turned on the camera, they didn't intend to humiliate him in front of the world.
Let me also say that I am glad to hear you taught him to walk away from a fight, and that I'm glad that he managed to do so.
Sincerely,
CaseyP.S. Tell Limpy he owes me his lunch money tomorrow.
BWWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
No, it didn't. You need to read it again. Slower, this time.
