Madison The top GOP leader in the state Senate backtracked Tuesday, saying Republicans would lift fines and a contempt finding against Democrats - a move that will allow Democrats to vote in committee and may begin to heal wounds between the two parties.
On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) said Democrats couldn't vote on bills in committee immediately even though they've returned from Illinois after a boycott of the Senate. That's because GOP lawmakers voted to hold Democrats in contempt of the Senate for the move, which for three weeks blocked a vote on Gov. Scott Walker's union bargaining bill.

Hey a$$hats, it's called SALT....pour DIRECTLY onto wounds.
With out any doubt.
“Now watch the Democrats repay this decision with future treachery.”
You’re right. Dems see this as a confirmation of weakness. Republicans excel at weakness.
Unbelieving bump
They should show their solidarity with the Chicken Dees and become Democrats themselves.
“Why......If I am hired to do a job and runaway for two weeks because I dont like it, my ass is on the street.”
That’s because you don’t belong to an elitist club of professional politicians whose first priority is to protect their sinecure, the institution and it’s members. Work responsibilities are for the little people like you and me.
I personally think this is NOT the way to stay on top.
They'll say that "the Republicans agreed that we did nothing wrong, were within our rights to walk out, and that in fact we should have walked out."
That's the most outrageous line of pap I can think of, but the imagination of leftists when it comes to spewing outrageous whoppers is way out of my league.
Nancy Pelosi claimed, earlier this very day, that "Democrats have long been fighting for fiscal responsibility." This after sending the deficit into the stratosphere, and not even producing a budget for 2010.
This is the sort of outlandish, Goebbels-esque, lying I expect in Wisconsin. We're talking L. Ron Hubbard territory here.
Watch out:
itzgerald declined to say which Democrats he’d talked to, but Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) said earlier Tuesday he would introduce a constitutional amendment that would allow the Senate to proceed with a simple majority in all cases. That would make it impossible for a minority of lawmakers to block action on future bills, though it would take at least two years to change the state constitution.
“The main point I want to make is that what we did we had every legal right to do. It was an extraordinary step against an extraordinary bill,” Cullen said. But “the institution of the Senate is not well-served going forward by having this particular avenue available.”
A constitutional amendment must be approved in two consecutive legislative sessions and voters in a statewide referendum.
Cullen said his proposal for a constitutional amendment would eliminate the requirement in the state constitution that three-fifths of lawmakers in each body be present to vote on certain fiscal bills, including those that contain spending items.
Fitzgerald embraced the concept.
“I like the idea of making sure this never happens again, no matter who is in charge,” Fitzgerald said.
But Miller rejected it.
“I think the framers of the constitution put that in as a way to protect the citizens,” he said. “I think it’s an overreaction to what happened
“Why......If I am hired to do a job and runaway for two weeks because I dont like it, my ass is on the street.”
That’s because, no doubt, your job consists of showing up some place, or places, and performing some task, or tasks. State Senators’ jobs consist of getting re-elected. Everything else they do is optional.
“Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) said earlier Tuesday he would introduce a constitutional amendment that would allow the Senate to proceed with a simple majority in all cases.”
Why bother with that? How about whatever number of Democrats—from one to however many Democrats are members at that particular time—show up to a mutual friend’s house some random Sunday can proceed with a bill?
Why?
My gut tells me that Hey, come on its Wisconsin. But why cave? The only thing I can think of is that the tactics of the Chicago political/union mob has had a lingering or time released effect on these Midwest pubbies.
Are they afraid to incite and anger the commie nutjob types they were elected to control/eradicate?
Are they that naive to think that these types can be trusted to do the right thing?
Republicans; snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.
What spineless...!! What is the antonym for machiavellian because that is exactly what the republicans are. The democrtes will smell weakness and will be emboldened just like their jihadist cousins.
I can hear them now “The Republicans droped the comtempt charges because they knew they were in the wrong and this proves it. “
It is not upon the Republicans to offer the olive branch. It will only be knocked away. If they do this they will lose public favor and will indeed look weak and wrong.
Republicans at all levels are masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! It’s that damned moral compass and sense of fair play. Democrats don’t seem to suffer from such maladies. I wish just once, when we had our boot on their throats, we’d keep it there!
What a bunch of cheese heads!
Really ?? HEAL WOUNDS ?? More like, let’s WOUND those HEELS. . .
Chicken sh*t bachelor’s child!
We are in a battle against collectivists, and the Pubbies still don’t understand.
What happened to “WE WON”? It was good enough for O’Bambi to use. Gutless Bass Turds!
Looks like the Dems are seeing polls showing them winning public sympathy for their fleebagging. If they keep up their tactics of boycotting local businesses (which will put people out of work) and harassing people gathering signatures to recall Dems, the worm will quickly turn. What are the Wisconsin laws regarding contempt? What are the Dems required to do to overturn it?
