A TV and radio host shocked viewers when he said the human toll caused by the widespread death and destruction of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami was worse than the toll on the economy 'and we can be grateful for that'.
In the wake of devastation which has seen thousands lose their lives following the 9.0 magnitude quake, CNBC's Larry Kudlow said: 'The human toll here looks to be much worse than the economic toll, and we can be grateful for that.'
The pundit had been discussing the U.S. markets when the rolling screen graphic signalled the death toll was likely to be more than 1,000.

The financial destruction is just getting started.
I think he meant it the other way around.
What a ghoul.
What a d!ck!
Larry is not that way! He is a recent convert to the Catholic faith and is not in any way, mean spirited. I think he meant it the other way around.
Here we go! The libtards are gonna have a field day!
Nobody could possibly be that big of a massengill product.
He immediately apologized for the mistake.
Libs can misspeak a thousand times, no problem. But they’re not going to let Larry off for this one, despite his apology. The left is already saying it was a Freudian slip; i.e., no matter what Kudlow says to the contrary, deep down he really meant it.
” the human toll caused by the widespread death and destruction of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami was worse than the toll on the economy “
Even for Kudlow, this is a remarkably stupid remark, on so many levels...
Not least of which, is the fact that the economic toll is, as yet, unknown and unknowable, and won’t be tallied, or even approxomated, until the ripple effects - ‘aftershocks’, if you will - play themselves out over time in the World Economy at large....
I watch Kudlow every night and I think he just misspoke. He is a solid Christian and I have never known him to send out sentiments like this. Beyond that, the economy of Japan is in shamble and has been for years. The Lost Decade never came to an end. If he did mean what he said, it wouldn’t make any sense.
I like him but Lou Dobbs will cut into his tv show numbers since they are on the same time schedule.
I seriously doubt Mr. Kudlow meant anything of the sort implied by this sensationalizing article, even if he did happen to mangle his words.
I assume he meant that we can all be grateful that the human toll was not worse.
Why don’t you jump to conclusions and be vulgar about it, too?
Just sayin’.
You’re probably right.
A pet peeve is everyone jumping on a statement when a person said nothing wrong. But they will include this in his obituary, I’m sure.
Whichever way he meant it is not offensive. If he acknowledged the human toll is WORSE but said at least we can be grateful the economic harm won’t be so bad, he did nothing to diminish the importance of the human toll.
If he meant we can be grateful the human toll is less than the economic toll, likewise.
Inartful but really meaningless, and he immediately said he made a mistake.
I mean’t R!chard.
” Inartful but really meaningless, and he immediately said he made a mistake. “
If you had bothered to read the rest of my post (it was only one sentence, after all) instead of leaping to a knee-jerk defense —
You would have seen that my criticism was centered around the fact that Mr. Kudlow drew conclusions from facts that could not possibly been in evidence....
I don't always agree with the guy, but every indication I've seen is he's one of the most genuinely decent people you'll ever meet.
