Has the influence of cable news peaked?
That's the conclusion of PEWs Project for Excellence in Journalism. According to their 2011 State of the News Media study all four cable networks saw their prime-time audiences fall in 2010.
MSNBC, Fox, HLN, and CNN lost between 39,000 and 331,000 viewers as cable -- the fourth most popular platform for news -- showed signs of becoming less important.
Fox News lost a whopping 11% of its prime time viewers (234,000 viewers), but that's not even the worst performance of the cablers.

Of course, you have to click through their stupid slideshow to find out that both CNN and HLN had WORSE drops in viewership, but they still have to lead with FoxNews in the headline.
I agree it’s BOR the self proclaimed everyman. While interupting all his guests he has deminished the FOX label with his juvenille stands in order to raise himself.
not news— opinions, talking heads, BOring
I have seen Fox change its format. They use to be way more hard hitting with little “fluff”. I can’t stand it in the mornings anymore. A few minutes of worthwhile news and then a segment about men hugging. Either that or Spring fashions, Hollywood gossip, barbecue tips... I do, however, watch Beck most nights.
So did I. But I did like Eric Bollen better in that time slot than I do the Judge.
I add Greta to that list..
I’m not sure its any of the above. People are deciding cable just isn’t worth it period. I ditched by cable TV and now just use my Roku box. No regrets.
Or 1) They're an entertainment network and B) They play the middle.
He is poorly informed. He isn't even on live. The news has evolved by about 3 hours from the time he tapes in the afternoon. Then he has those ridiculous fluff segments. He doesn't qualify as a conservative analyst, so I don't watch him any more.
Here of late, Fox seems more like the Book of the Month Club Channel............
Add how many switch over to the FOX business channel though? A whole lot of people make the switch to get away from Shep, Huckabee and Beck from one FOX channel to the other if the hosts (like me) start getting on their nerves I bet. Look for even more people to make the switch now that Lou Dobbs is back on the air there.
Shemp-unwatchable
BOR-irritating
Whoraldo-attention whore
Hannity- ugh
Not to mention the fact they need to get some fresh faces and new shows in that evening lineup.
I also think people have tired of the panels of talking heads. They always have the same boring contributors.
Cavuto and Beck are the ONLY reasons to even bother tuning in...
I really liked Beck’s book and his youtube videos (I don’t have TV at all). But I try to listen to his radio program and it is like listening to the banter between DJ’s on a pop FM station during morning drive. I miss the local talk show hosts that depend on information, as opposed to personality, to get an audience. I just listen to CD’s now.
That weekend Fox and Friends is useless.
I stopped watching on weekdays in am because I can’t stand that bimbo Gretchen....I have on the magical times of I Love Lucy instead.....
O’Really, for sure. Beck is on at 5 and that is not prime time.
