I feel like I am getting fleeced and taken advantage of. I dont buy meat anymore. I cant. Its too expensive.
The price index for groceries is expected to surge 3 to 4 percent nationally this year, according to the US Dept. of Agriculture.

I agree. I think the admin is trying to get food prices so far out of the realm that most people cannot buy any without a subsidy of food stamps, etc. that can be turned off at discretion. I also believe the “Food Safety Modernization Act” will have something ugly in store for those who try and be self reliant also, but that remains to be seen.
Look for “paper supply warehouses” in your phone book.
It is institutional quality though, so cavet emptor..lol!
Far better deal then what you’d get even at a Warehouse Store.

I love single ply! (Except for the scott 1000, which I used a little begrudginly until they made the rolls smaller).
Here in my area, the single ply is thicker than one of the two ply’s and is very expensive (About $8, on sale, for 12 rolls of 500 sheets, single ply, vs. $4.99, on sale, for a roll of 300 sheets of two ply.)
I bought the thicker single ply once when it was on sale a few years back, and it was wonderful (it’s a very good quality for the store brand even). I still have a few packs tucked away because I like them so much, strange but true.
One trick I used when I made the mistake of buying some small, fluffy rolls, was to pull the two ply apart, and use 25% less. So say using instead of using 4 sheets of the two ply, using 3 pulled apart into 6, etc. (TMI, I know, lol). That roll just went through so fast otherwise, and it was so think on the ply’s anyway. There’s ways to save all around if you take the thought.
Either way, great advice you gave, you’re preaching to the choir! LOL

Thanks for the follow-up. It’s something I’m going to have to look into. I only eat pork a few times a year (New Year’s pork and sauerkraut and a pork chop now and then), so I haven’t paid much attention, but it’s good to be up to speed. Thanks for that!

We are really watching the grocery ads, cutting coupons, etc. to make ends meet at my house. Most stores will let you use one store coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon, as well as offering you to double 3 or four manufacturer’s coupons. Watch for loss leader items and prepare your meals based on what you catch on sale that week and what you have stored in your pantry or freezer. Eggs have been on sale recently here for .99 cents a dozen, so we have been stocking up and then having breakfast for dinner one night a week. Kielbasa has been on sale for $1.39, and onions for .49 per lb. I cut up two onions and one kielbasa and cook it together until the onions are nicely carmealized, cook up some scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and biscuits and I have served our family of 5 dinner for under $5.
I am feeding my family for less than $10 everyt night of the week and by watching the sales and using coupons, most dinners are around $5.00 or less for 5 people. With the money I am saving on every day meals we can afford to stock up on staples like rice, sugar, salt, honey, cooking oil, and meat when it is on sale. We are keeping our large freezer as well as the freezers in two refrigerators filled. We have been using the second refrigerator to stock extra cheese, eggs, and other perishables which keep fairly well in the refrigerator for longer periods of time and just rotate those items. We have stocked our pantry with canned goods and stocked up on household items like soap, toothpaste, etc.
If I can do it, any one can do it!

In fact, I pet my derriere with pieces of the Romanian newspaper, Zimbrulu and Vulturulu (The Aurochs and the Eagle), once mailed to Galati when it was published in 1858. Because of its weight, the newspaper required no less than eight Cap de Bour (Bull Head) stamps. These stamps are now quite rare, quite expensive and quite coveted by philatelists. Steamed, removed, and gently applied, they serve as a warm and gently sticky coup de grace.

I too am a big believer in freezing the loss leaders.
I have noticed also that it helps to have a friend at the grocery store who can guide you as to the best deals of the day.
I know it sounds crazy but I have always been very respectful of grocery employees (having been one [GIANT in Maryland]) and have made a habit of knowing one or two, greeting them as a matter of course, and asking them about the day’s special deals.
They are always happy to be of assistance, and I have had many wonderful rewards, such as thick steaks at bargain prices!
Shop smarter and b!tch less.

About 80% of my shopping is done around the perimeter of the store and I can tell you exactly the order that the items hit my cart as I travel around the perimeter:
That gets me to the front of the store and from there it's just a couple of trips into the aisles to get a few canned goods and oatmeal. No frozen ready-to-eat entrees, no chips, no cookies, no processed cereals and other junk like that. Almost always under $100 to feed family of four for at least a week.
I do get one thing in the frozen section and that is frozen blueberries and blackberries. They taste great when swirled into plain vanilla yogurt, much cheaper than fresh and don't have to worry about spoilage.

It depends on where you live. Some places have seen very little price increases on “staple” food products.
I bought 25 lb. bag of flour last week for $5.99 (I keep a minimum of 50 lbs on hand), fresh strawberries for $1.99 per lb., whole pork loin $2.19 and chuck roast for $2.99 per lb.
I am totally convinced we haven’t seen anything yet, until the full effect of the FDA Food Takeover Bill is apparent. I expect it to impact all imported and most domestic produced food and raise price 25%. If you are hungry don’t blame a farmer, blame the lying POLs who sold us out to the regulators and Global AG.
When prices for farm production went up to the level that farmers started getting a fair ROE (return on equity) farmers naturally opted out of the "Cheap Food for Consumers" programs, most often called the Farm Subsidies Program.
The result was loss of control over the food supply by government officials. This is the first time since the 50's that they have lost control of that, and politicians suddenly realized that they are going to face an angry voter pool.
Thus, they passed HR2748/S.510/HR2751 FDA Food Takeover Bill which allows them control of food supply again. Their aim, this time it seems, is NOT to flood the market with more food than Americans can possibly eat, but to punish us with an ironclad control on food supply.
It won't work, as the consumer is going to punish politicians with a whipping they won't forget for generations.
For all the bitching here on FR and elsewhere about 'paying farmers not to plant' the system we are now leaving was the most efficient, produced the cheapest and best food the world has ever seen.
It looks like the bitchers will have their way, and the results aren't going to be pretty.
