BATON ROUGE, La. — A state lawmaker from central Louisiana has become the latest member of the Louisiana House to leave the Democratic Party for the GOP.

Rep. Billy Chandler, of Dry Prong, announced his party switch Friday, adding another Republican to the House, which recently became a majority GOP chamber.

Chandler says he's joined the Republican Party because the philosophy more closely matches his views and those of his constituents.

He was elected in 2006 to the district representing parts of Grant, LaSalle, Rapides, and Winn parishes.

The House has 53 Republicans, 46 Democrats, four independents and two vacancies. One of the vacant seats will certainly go to the GOP because only Republican candidates signed up for the race.

A lot of these switchers are socially conservative statists. They love big government, but disagree with the national Democrat party on social issues.

And that makes them different from far too many Republicans, how?

I know, those all RINOS

It’s not philosophy. It’s power.

They don’t like abortion, same sex marriage, the climate change hoax and all the other stuff Yankee Democrats embrace.

The Democrats are becoming an endangered species in the South.

“It just keeps coming.”

Indeed it does. ‘Rats may become an endangered species in the South outside of a few cities and shantytowns.

None of their (switchers) motives are pure. At least not the ones that switch into the majority.

But I’d seek to primary him only if he deserves it based on an examination of his past record and what he does from now on.

The Democrats are definitely becoming an endangered species in Georgia. Its become the party of metro Atlanta and of blacks.

Every state office in GA is held by Reps plus both houses.

And I don’t see that changing any time soon.

There’s been another switch in Louisiana. State Senator Norby Chabert is now a Republican.

The NRCC is already running ads hitting Rahall and Schuler. Know who is being recruited to run for the GOP in those districts?

No idea.

Both should be top targets, especially Shuler who will be impacted by redistricting as has several new GOP state legislators in his district.

It all depends what his district would look like. My map put him in an unwinnable mountain district with Virginia Foxx.
