The story quickly climbed The Timess most emailed list but not just because of the sensational facts of the crime involved. Vicious Assault Shakes Texas Town, published on Tuesday, reported the gang rape by 18 boys and men of an 11-year-old girl in the East Texas town of Cleveland.
The viral distribution of the story was, at least in part, because of the intense outrage it inspired among readers who thought the piece pilloried the victim.
My assessment is that the outrage is understandable. The story dealt with a hideous crime but addressed concerns about the ruined lives of the perpetrators without acknowledging the obvious: concern for the victim.
While the story appeared to focus on the communitys reaction to the crime, it was not enough to simply report that the community is principally concerned about the boys and men involved as this story seems to do. If indeed that is the only sentiment to be found in this community and I find that very hard to believe it becomes important to report on that as well by seeking out voices of professional authorities or dissenting community members who will at least address, and not ignore, the plight of the young girl involved.
Lets consider the particulars:
The story by James C. McKinley Jr. reported that residents of the town noted the girl dressed older than her age, wore makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s and hung out with older boys at the playground.
The story also quoted one resident, saying, Where was her mother? What was her mother thinking?
Referring to some of the defendants in the case, the same resident was quoted saying, These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.

Those are just the ones they’ve caught. They think there are a lot more.
I even have one that will be a piece of cake for you. He is in our school because Mommy and Daddy gave up after home schooling him for 8 years he is "supposed" to be a sophomore according to his Homeschool records, but he barely reads at the eigth grade level. Of course this might explain why he had to be banned from the middle school because he was "dating" and eighth grade girl. Maybe she was tutoring him. In two years time he has only earned 4 Carnegie credits. did I mention that he tips the scale at 300 pounds. Yeah your theories work real well.
BTW i am getting my Administrative certificate so i can continue to change it from the inside. No need thank me.

golux you might want to find out more about her personal history before you say things like that. I’m just saying......
To that, I’ll add that the government has parents scared to use ANY physical discipline for fear of losing their children.
So...Your example of the 300 lb homeschooled boy who reads at the 8th grade level is merely an anecdotal example.
Were you aware that only 32% of the nation's **government** schooled children can read proficiently in the 8th grade? What should we do with the 68% who can't read? Should we force them to homeschool?
Also...Since a double blind study on your student is impossible, it is completely possible that if he attended school he may have weighed 400 or 500 lbs. Since the opportunity for exercise and diet control would have been far less.
It is also possible that his reading level may have been lower if he attended school.
Now for an anecdotal reports of my own:
My husband and I tutor the Spanish speaking children of the Spanish speaking members of our church in our county. We also run the cub scout troop for the Spanish speaking congregation.
I work weekly with children who can NOT read at all! They can not look at the number, 512, and tell me what it is. They can not add, subtract, multiply, or divide. They have absolutely no idea what a denominator represents. In other words they are innumerate and illiterate. ( These are children who are **born** in the U.S., have attended head start, and speak English **VERY WELL**!)
If these kids, that my husband and I work with weekly, are learning **anything** at all it is because dedicated members of our church are putting in tons of hours of AFTERSCHOOLING!
If children attend schools that are godless in their worldview they **WILL** learn to think and reason godlessly. They **must** simply to get along, participate in the program, and do the assignments.
Having generation after generation of Americans subjected to government godless indoctrination, is, ( in my opinion) a large contributing factor in the moral degeneration that we see all around us. This incident involving the rape of this poor girl is merely one more drop of pee floating in the sewer.
You know D@mn well that Public schools do work for the majority for the population
Well...The U.S. government disagrees with you. Please do a Google on the words: "32% eighth graders". You will see that only 32% of the nation's eighth graders read at a proficient level. Here is a link:
"US 'report card' on reading: 8th-graders gain, 4th-graders don't "
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Education/2010/0324/US-report-card-on-reading-8th-graders-gain-4th-graders-don-t
Unfortunately it is unknown if some, or **all**, of the success of those children who can read is due entirely to the efforts of their parents and tutors IN THE HOME. ( My guess is that if a child can read it has everything to do with the work the parents and tutors are doing.)
And...I bet the government's idea of "proficient" isn't the standard of proficient that I used for my homeschoolers! I'd bet my entire 401K on that!
Oh sweety I see you still are ignoring my offer,
I am already taking up your offer with my own county's government institutionalized children. Members of our congregation and I are putting in **tons** of hours **AFTERSCHOOLING** our county's government institutionalized children. If they know anything at all it is because we have taught them and their parents have supported our efforts. Any success that they are having is **NOT** in any way related to the government institutional schools.
And while you are at it you might as well admit that homeschooling was not 100% effective for you.
I was not homeschooled. I was after-schooled by my parents and myself. Nearly all learning I have acquired occurred outside of an institutional setting ( except for laboratories). This is true even on the undergraduate and graduate school levels.
Are you referring to my children? If so, I consider the following to be 100% effective:
My three homeschooled children entered college at the ages of 13, 12, and 13. All finished all general college requirements and Calculus III by the age of 15.
The two younger children finished B.S. degrees in mathematics at the age of 18. The oldest of these two earned a masters in math at the age of 20. She taught math in a private school but is now happily married to a wonderful man and is the full-time mother of two adorable children. The youngest is now finishing the requirements to enter a nursing program.
The oldest took a somewhat different approach to his education. He studied accounting part-time at night and trained full-time in a sport. He has competed on the highest national and international levels. He also choose to take off from his sport for a few years to work with our church in Eastern Europe. As a result he is completely fluent in Russian. In fact, he speaks so well that native Russians think he **is** Russian! In his early twenties he took up his sport again and trained full-time while completing an accounting degree at night. He now is in a masters degree program in accounting and will soon finish. He is married to a beautiful young lady.
All of my children, and their spouses and children, are very active in our church and fully committed to the gospel. My homeschooled children are accomplished ball room dancers, play instruments, (one is a pianist for her congregation) and sing in the choir.
Good ‘catch’.
Don’t you wonder why none of us take you seriously?
There’s a girl called “slut” in every town...
But does that mean she wants THIS?
And were there so many young men in the town in which YOU grew up willing to do THIS ?
Why do you hate people?
I was commenting on your desire to live next to Wintertime and raise your children next to hers. She has some serious issues.
I don't, I just realize that Wintertime is not the most mentally balanced person in the room. I have dealt with her for several years now and know her well enough to make that judgment.
Why do you jump to conclusions?
Yes, you are right, I do have some serious issues with the following:
**Government schools are godless and simply by attending children learn to think and reason godlessly.
** Government schools are socialist-funded and collectivist. Simply by attending children learn to be comfortable with the government using the threat of police action to take money from a neighbor.
** Government schools are managed by voting mob elected comrade committees that then dictate what children are to think and believe. Is it any wonder that we now have a pervasive atmosphere of political correctness (correct government thinking)? If school panels can dictate a child's thoughts and demand that he thing godlessly, then Death Panels were inevitable!
** No, I don't think conservatives and Christians should be working in these government temples of godless secular humanist worship. They should instead be building underground railroads so the children can escape. They should be joining the Resistance cells that would utterly SHUT DOWN these indoctrination camps and put and end to these godless ovens of Moloch that literally are destroying the very souls of our nation's children.
** No...I don't believe warehousing children in prison-like buildings and driving them around in vehicles that resemble prison-gang buses is good for our nation's children. They should not be standing on corners every morning like day laborers waiting for their pick-up. If we treat children like prisoners they will learn to be prisoners of the state.
** Yes,...I believe our Founding Fathers were right about education. They correctly educated their **own** sons and daughters. Our Founding Fathers homeschooled, attended very small one room schools organized by parents and dame schools in the homes of neighbors, had some private tutoring as needed, were apprentices, and/or attended small home-based academies that prepared them for entrance into college as young teens. With a few exceptions, our nation's children should be enjoying the same.
So...Yes, Verga, I do have serious issues. You are correct. I **seriously** believe that our GODLESS, socialist, collectivist, prison-like, voter mob controlled, and comrade committee managed “schools” ( temples of godless secular humanist worship) are destroying our nation. Yeah!..I have a **serious** issue with that.
golux, that's insightful - thanks for sharing.
Strange comment - but there's something - some little kernel that 'feels of truth' in there - that makes it hard to dismiss...
