E-cat inventor in live chat with readers (Andrea Rossi, "cold fusion" inventor answers questions)
NyTeknik ^ | Mar 11, 2011 | Mats Lewan

Posted on 03/11/2011 8:47:50 AM PST by Normandy

Questions poured in when the Italian engineer, Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the so-called 'energy catalyzer' which may be based on cold fusion, met with Ny Teknik's readers in a live chat. Read all questions and answers here.

Rossi's 'energy catalyzer' was shown to an invited audience in Bologna in January 2011 and produces heat by an unknown reaction. The reactor of the device is loaded with nickel powder in the presence of secret catalysts, and pressurized with hydrogen.

Question: Dear mr Rossi! When can I buy a small energy-catalyst machine at about 7-15 kW to temperate my house? What will it cost? Are you going to construct a machine (for ex with a Stirling machine) which also can produce electricity enough for the private household? / Åke Östlund

Rossi: To produce Energy Catalyzers (E-Cat from now) for the households, it takes time for the necessary certifications. This is the reason why we are starting from industrial applications, or even centralized thermal energy distribution systems: in these applications the authorizations are less difficult, because the plants are operated by skilled professionals. Yes, we are also designing electric power systems, which use the well known cycles: Carnot Cycle, Stirling, etc. As for the costs, we foresee 1 cent per kWh for the electric energy, 0,3 cents per thermal kWh, 2.000 Euro per kW of power.

You do not create Copper from Nickel without a nuclear reaction.

From his point of view, his ‘scam’ started in January and his schedule has him delivering 128 more units at the end of this month. These units will then be hooked in parallel and tied to a steam turbine to generate electrical power by the end of July.

Seems to me that 3 months is a long time to run a scam. What does a person have to do? Present too many details, and other people will steal your idea. The University of Bologna is behind this, and underwriting his work. The University will not destroy the reputation they have earned, on a shyster.

This is worth keeping tabs on. I hope he has multiple copies of his documents in secret secure locations. There are many nefarious people and organizations who will want a serious accident to happen.

I want to live for the day when the most valuable export from the middle east is dates.

With inventions, you have two options.

1. You provide enough information so that another person can build your machine. In return, you receive a period of time where your rights to that invention are protected. The idea is to enhance progress by getting your idea out to as many people as posible.

2. The other option is that you keep your invention a trade secret. You can sell your product but you have no legal protection if somebody else can figure out how you did it.

You can’t patent a secret.

“You do not create Copper from Nickel without a nuclear reaction.”

Go give him your money then....lol

If you know anything about elements, you would know you can change one into another even with a nuclear reaction. It is easier to build the element out of sub-atomic particles.

Soooo scammmed, what is wrong, I am trying to educate you guys to how the con works and you feel insulted, actually that is a very normal reaction.

No one wants to feel like they been had.

We have seen people that will still give up their money even after every person they meet told them it was a scam, it just made them madder and madder and they actually doubled down. Human beings are wonderful creatures.

Look, no con is going to work very long, 3 months is actually a long time. He isn’t going to wait that long, he will let this run as long as possible then poof, gone.

Could be 1 more day, this might have been the grand final already. Or he may able to run this out two months.

Hey don’t feel bad, I have been scammed before and am better for it.

That is why Freepers are some of the smartest people on the net, we all have valuable knowledge.

. And the fact that he’s has convinced private investors to put their own money into it adds instant credibility in my mind.

Because that never happens with scams.

Sources please. I think you got this from Star Trek - this has not been done anywhere, at any time. We cannot even make Hydrogen. How do you manipulate a sub-atomic partical (quarks?)

The reason this is getting so much scruitiny, is because many physists are looking at what he has published - and are scratching their heads. To much fact to be utter non-sense; but this doesn't fit the Nuclear models we have today.

That's why we have the CERN Supercollider. We are essentially trying to figure out how a watch works, by hitting it with a hammer and looking at the pieces.

The fact is that we do not fully understand what holds atoms together, how they work, or what makes them up. Our models have lots of holes in them. Quantum Mechanics is not a very solid science - we only have scratched the surface.

THINK ABOUT IT!!! don’t be a mark

Nobody here has any money riding on this. Why are you so invested in it being a hoax?

Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Won’t hurt my ego if it turns out it is. The world will be different if it isn’t.

Ok, I see the analogy you are making. It’s just that the battery isn’t required to keep the engine running. But, an exciter field is required to keep a motor running if it doesn’t have permanent magnets and power for a laser is required to keep a fusion reaction going.

However, until this guy gets a patent, it just sounds like all of the past claims to “free energy”. Once the patent is granted, the design is out there and as long as we don’t try to make money from it, all of us can try to duplicate the claims. It’s worth it to me to build something like this for myself if it works—and not to illegally sell.

Bingo! See my post at #49.

I don’t think that application is going anywhere.

There aren’t any sources, no one has been able to turn/build/create any element other than Hydrogen and it was unstable and fell apart.

Hate to disappoint you, but this all hypothetical.

Physicists think they know how to do it yet can’t.

Do you have any idea how complex the elements you are talking about? We can’t even do it with a simple element like hydrogen we sure as hell can’t do it with something like nickel and copper.

I am not, but I would expect freepers to help each other out to prevent being a mark.

There are three types of people in the world:
1. The Mark
2. The Shill
3. The Con

Patents are knowingly infringed on all the time. He puts the patent out and the ChiComs will be selling knockoffs all over the world very fast. And they will laugh at any little guy who threatens to sue. The ChiComs will sell millions of units and take in billions before any court will be able to stop them.

If you are a GE who puts out a new CF power generator you have a better chance of stopping the Chinese and others....But still, with a game changing (if it works as billed) devoice like this everyone will be ripping it off. Patent laws or no patent laws.

We can’t possibly be a mark since no one is working to extract money from us.

Also there are

4. dreamers
5. builders
6. people who do things that can’t be done.

He is. That is the art of a good con, the mark doesn’t even know he is the mark.

You guys .... I am really trying to help you guys out and raise your anti-con IQs.

If you would evaluate this entire story dispassionately ./. logically ./. it is sooooo obviously a con it is funny

Wrong again ..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesis_of_precious_metals

We've been doing this for decades. We can make Gold, pure elemental Gold, however the production costs are far greater than the gold is worth. We can do this for Paladium, Rhodium and Ruthium, as well as Silver and Gold

Nuclear fusion breaks apart big atoms, into smaller atoms. Fission builds these atoms up. We can do both - making it energy efficient has been the Holy Grail.

This man, has apparently figured out how to add the Proton from the Hydrogen to Nickel - to give us Copper. Because the early efforts at Cold Fusion (below the temperature of our Sun) have been non-repeatable (not a hoax, not a scam - not repeatable), Cold Fusion has been cursed as a joke. The earlier exercises involved using Paladium's metalic structure to force hydrogen atoms to fuse - making Helium and a heck of a lot of heat. They made hundreds of attempts to replicate this experiment, and were only successful 2-4x. You cannot use a process that only works 2% of the time.

This process claims to be 99.999% repeatable, hence the excitement. An awful lot of heat is being created and exhausted as non-radioactive super-heated steam. You can't hide that in a theros bottle. Copper is present in the unspent fuel, that was not present at the beginning of the experiment. The part that is baffling the Physists is NOT the reaction itself, not the energy output. What is baffling the hell out of everyone is the lack of Gamma radiation being generated. This is where the model is falling apart, there is expected to be far more radiation than is being measured - and that has them scratching their heads.
