US Republicans assail Obama as gas prices rise

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama's Republican foes on Thursday blamed his energy policies and efforts to combat climate change for soaring oil and gasoline prices and called for boosting domestic production.

"As gas prices go up, so does the cost of everyday life," Republican House Speaker John Boehner told reporters as he unveiled a campaign dubbed the "America Energy Initiative" to increase supplies and roll back regulations.

"It costs more to drive to work, to buy groceries, or just to get the kids to school. And at a time when our economy already isn't creating enough jobs, rising gas prices hurt the very people we need to lead us out of our economic crisis: Small businesses," he said.

Boehner said Republicans, who control the House of Representatives but not the Senate, would tackle the issue in "bite-sized chunks" rather than one sweeping energy bill.

Most market analysts have pinned the recent rise in oil and gas prices on regional turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell accused the Obama administration of throttling new oil exploration and warned against new regulations that he said threatened the fragile US economic recovery.

"Now is the time to be asking what we can do to increase domestic energy production, not proposing ways to squeeze American families even more," said McConnell, who predicted US consumers would be dependent on fossil fuels "for decades to come."

The White House responded to the criticisms -- longstanding Republican arguments -- in a post on its official blog underscoring its commitment to "increasing responsible domestic energy production -- including oil and gas."

"In fact, oil production last year rose to its highest level since 2003," Obama's deputy assistant for energy and climate change, Heather Zichal, said in the post.

The FED is hugely responsible for the rise in Gas prices. Bad policy to prop up the fraudsters starts their. Of course you can go on and on from that point too.

Let’s hope Boehner wasn’t crying like a little baby when he said this.

Bullshit.

Eliminate the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency. Real simple, and 80% of voters will back these initiatives.

Every president gets tarred when gas prices rise.

At least this time the tarring represents rough justice.

0bama has always called for higher engergy prices, and he’s got them.

Sleep in the bed you made, Mr. 0bummer.

We need Bachmann as Speaker of the House desperately.

These lying turds would stand out there at high noon and claim it was midnight. And get away with it.

Oil production has plummeted since the Kenyan illegally took office. As he stated was his goal, during the campaign.

When the Saudi’s turn against us we will really be up the creek which may happen as the king is 86 years old. Gas is $3.89 in Alaska and will really be a major expense for shipping anything up here. Of course, the rats could care less as they think of us as the flyovers holding on to our gunas and religion.

Most market analysts have pinned the recent rise in oil and gas prices on regional turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa.

Absolute BS!

The prices were heading upward before the recent turmoil kicked off. The high prices really got to rolling when Obama took office and started spending like a drunken Clinton in a strip bar...

Then the printing presses were kicked into overdrive, further devaluing the $US. Skyrocketing US debt...

Dictatorial powers being exercised by the President - effectively shutting down oil exploration and utilization.

And public statements that The One believes we should be paying MORE for gasoline...

Sure - blame regional turmoil. But if we were being responsible - we would be utilizing our own resources in such a way that such regional troubles hardly show up as a bump in the road for consumers and businesses.

But no - The One WANTS us dependent on others - especially his Muslim brothers. He WANTS the US to be crippled. A strong US would never give in to a One World government. But one brought to its knees becomes at the mercy of others.. THAT is what Obama wants, and is leading the US head-long towards. The only question - will the Republicans stop this crazy train, or will they only slow the progress towards such a fate?

I don’t know about you - but I try really hard to not hold onto my gunas... at least not in public. I was brought up to see that as crude and socially unacceptable (just yanking your chain).

Gas prices go up when GW was President = “Bush is a friend of Big Oil” (even though prices fell to less than $2 per gallon under his watch).

Gas prices go up when Obama is President = “It’s all good - not ‘my fault’ - it is regional unrest (when has there not been SOME kind of regional unrest in the Middle East?) - it is Bush’s fault...etc.
