Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, filed a complaint Thursday morning with the Dane County district attorney charging that the Joint Conference Committee that convened at 6 p.m. Wednesday and passed an amended version of Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill is in violation of the open meetings law.
The complaint states that Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and his brother, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, and others "knowingly attended the meeting in violation of the Open Meetings law" and are subject to penalties identified in state statute.
The complaint asks that the actions taken at the meeting be declared void.
District Attorney Ismael R. Ozanne confirmed this morning that he had received the complaint and that his office would be reviewing it, noting that either he or Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has authority to do so.
"This is the first step. That allows us to take a look at the allegations," Ozanne said.
Barca could not be immediately reached for comment.
Also today, Assembly Democrats, including Barca, sent a letter to Ozanne urging him to "investigate and prosecute to the greatest extent possible this assault on transparent government and on our democracy itself."
They also wrote that the meeting of the Joint Conference Committee was "an attempt to destroy the rights of hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin citizens ... It is clear that our open meetings law was violated."
Good Lord. They are crazed fanatics.
good lord what a wussy, get over it you lost
The scu&bags keep ratcheting it up.
One wonders how far they’ll go.
In Madistan, never under estimate the socialists.
lol. This is dumb.
THEY LEFT THE F’ING STATE TO PREVENT A VOTE!
Are these fools kidding?
He’s just bring the whine to go with the cheese(heads)...
Congress rules are Congress rules.
He files a complaint and now nobody can reach him anyway. What a putz!
They just don’t get it do they? As their exalted Marxist Leader once said, “There was an election and you lost.”
[District Attorney Ismael R. Ozanne confirmed this morning that he had received the complaint and that his office would be reviewing it, noting that either he or Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has authority to do so. ]
Ozanne is a Doyle appointment. Van Hollen is a R first elected narrowly in 2006 and elected by a wider margin in 2010.
That’s because he’s busy ranting and raving on the Assembly floor at this moment...
Can someone enlighten me as to who this quote is attributed to?
“The forces of socialism only march in one direction.”
Very apropos here. When they win an election, that’s justification for moving forward with socialism. When they lose an election, though, that is NOT a valid reason to march in the other direction.
Same with rules, laws, oaths, constitutionality, etc.
Watching his mambling on Wiseye now....”This is wroooonngggg....terribly wroooonnnggg....!”
“Democracy is ceasing to exist in Wisconsin...”
Idiot Barca has a motion up to remove Rep. Fitzgerald as Speaker, which just means it must not be able to count.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Senate should hold another vote with 24 hours notice. We don’t want to give any left-wing activist judge a justification for throwing out the law.
That's right, the topic of "collective bargaining" is exempt from the provisions of the law, and that's all this particular bill is about.
I don't think Barca has a snowball's chance.
They chose to defy the law and not to work. They don’t have a leg to stand on!
Wisconsin’s struggling taxpayers sure would like to get paid without having to work! Just who the hell do the Democrats think they are?
Rep. Fitzgerald reading the death threat live to the Assembly now...
The Dems lost the right to use the word “democracy” when 14 of their members split town to avoid a vote.
