In the middle of his tirade against House Republicans' "mean-spirited" budget bill on the Senate floor Tuesday, the Senate Majority Leader lamented that the GOP’s proposed budget cuts would eliminate the annual "cowboy poetry festival” in his home state of Nevada. (See also: Reid’s prostitution lecture bombs.)

Reid clearly has a soft spot for the Baxter Blacks of the poetry world and thinks Republicans don't.

“The mean-spirited bill, H.R. 1 … eliminates the National Endowment of the Humanities, National Endowment of the Arts,” said Reid. “These programs create jobs. The National Endowment of the Humanities is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.”

If there are enough people interested in a Cowboy Poetry Festival, it will be privately funded. If not, bye bye!

mean-spirited budget bill?
What’s mean spirited is steeling from some people to give to give to others. Mean spirited is burdening us, our children and grandchildren with crushing debt. What is really mean spirited is pushing us to total economic collapse and the destruction of the American way of life. The ridiculously inadequate cut proposed by the GOP may be mean spirited only in that it is not nearly enough. Needs to be around 1.5 trillion bucks to be responsible.

“These programs create jobs...”

More taxpayer-supported jobs.
That’s the only kind Harry likes.

I got your cowboy poetry right here:

I used to be free like a bull.
But Dems spent us into the hole.
Now we as a nation are broke
and I'm taxed like an ox in a yoke.

I didn’t know that programs create people. Maybe we are attacking this the wrong way; maybe we should be calling it “aborting programs” instead of cutting them and then the progressives would go along.

I did the PR work and helped promote a cowboy poetry event when I was in college. It was fun, and didn’t cost much. I didn’t know I could get federal money for it.

So if the program isn't around, tens of thousands of people would not exist? Really?

They would then be forced to go somewhere that is not government supported.

The worst thing that has happened to the arts is government funding.

Government funding means government approval. And government sponsored arts compete with the private artist who does not want government telling him what art is.

Wait, I missed this the first time. Is he using a little too much hyperbole, or will tens of thousands of people actually disappear into a puff of smoke when a budget is cut? Or maybe the Cowboy poetry festival is the only place cowboy poetry fans (who are normally complete social outcasts) are able to get together once a year to "exchange their genes" (cough, cough) with each other, and their children would not have been born without federally subsidized cowboy poetry?

Hmmmmm, cowboy poetry.....”Well it’s 40 below and I don’t give a f**k, got a heater in my truck and I’m off to the rodeo.....” or perhaps, “Well here comes Johnny with his pecker in his hand, he’s a one-ball man and he’s off to the rodeo......”

Great, now that song is running through my head. Well at least some of the lyrics match how I feel about Harry Reid: "**$$ me off, *@#*in' jerk, get on my nerves"

Ah, the Rodeo Song. Runner-up for the state song of Idaho. Dang it.

You know, I feel a country song coming on myself. Back later.

Saw an article in the paper last night about testimony by prostitutes/brothel owner to the Nevada legislature regarding Reid’s push to completely outlaw prostitution across Nevada.

Seems the legal brothel owners and workers voted and some campaigned for Reid in his recent reelection campaign and now he is figuratively “screwing” them. This is extremely funny since they thought that they were supporting and voting for a friend of their profession and found that he’s now throwing them under the bus to show his gratitude.

You get what you vote for you ignorant dumbasses.

FUBO & FAD

I know that good ol'Harry is going to the mat for his 'homies' but this ...

Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.

I guess that if this is a post-festival count we need to involve HHS in handing out condoms and "Plan B" pills at the festival. Speaking for myself, I am desirous to have Harry BBQ'd at the next poetry reading - it is to weep!
