Intruder calls 911, afraid homeowner may have gun By the CNN Wire Staff
(CNN) -- This time it was the intruder who called 911.
A man who broke into a house in Portland, Oregon, called police -- afraid the homeowner may have a gun.
The suspect, Timothy James Chapek, was in the bathroom taking a shower when the homeowner returned to the house Monday night, Portland police said in a statement.
Accompanied by two German shepherds, the homeowner asked Chapek what he was doing in the house.
Chapek locked himself in the bathroom and made an emergency call, police said. He said he had broken into the house, the owner had come home, and that he was concerned the owner might have a gun.
The homeowner also called the police to report that he had found a man in the house.

I remember reading about this mayor. Someone called the cops saying the mayor had marijuana in his house. Cops came. They shot one Lab , the other one ran and hid under a bed. They shot it too. Mayor didn't have any drugs. I don't know what the outcome of that was.

My cousin's family owned a small grocery store WAY "out in the sticks". A couple of their kids were electronic whizes and they set up a "silent alarm" system which would sound at their home (which was about half a mile away), including an intercom.
The alarm went off one night, and they were listening in on the intercom to a couple of burglars who had just broken in.
Father of family calls up a few neighbors, and they, he, and the rest of the family loaded up their firearms (Father was ex-marine, ALL the family, including daughter and mom, were "shooters") and head down to the store.
The BURGLARS looked out the window at all that firepower, and THEY called the Sheriff to come and arrest them.

That’s why I would have suggested alternative #2.
And the problem with that is?
All the more reason for the perp to select the suggested alternative #2. Heck, I might have even taken the shepherds outside just to see how fast the perp could streak.
Perhaps thieves and burglars should unionize. Oh wait the NEA, and SEIU already has.

Somehow I don’t think this story will he heavily covered on the CNN tv side, MSNBC, ABC or in the NY Times. After all, the possibility of an armed citizen actually DETERRING a criminal??!! Can’t have THAT getting out to the little people, now CAN we!
