San Jose man in critical condition after attack at Redwood City Caltrain station
Contra Costa Times via San Jose Mercury News ^ | March 5, 2011 | Tracy Seipel

A 47-year-old San Jose man was severely injured Friday night when a group of nine to 15 people robbed and attacked him at the Redwood City Caltrain station, authorities said.

Late Saturday, the man remained hospitalized in critical condition, said Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.

She said the man was waiting for a southbound train when he was attacked about 7:30 p.m. and then left on the ground at the station. The assailants fled before police arrived.

"This is a very unusual situation," Dunn said. "We have almost 40,000 riders a day who have every reason to feel safe while riding Caltrain."

Dunn said the station near downtown Redwood City is adjacent to a shopping center and is also a major bus transit point served by SamTrans buses. "So there is a lot of foot traffic in the station coming and going at all times of the day," she said. "At 7:30, there would be people around."

Dunn said some Caltrain stations have surveillance cameras, but she did not know whether the Redwood City station has any such equipment.

There was no description of any of the assailants, but San Mateo County Transit Police investigators are following leads, including reports of a white compact car seen leaving the scene, she said.

Caltrain officials say they have beefed up security at the Redwood City station.

Anyone who may have witnessed the assault may contact detective Victor Lopez of the San Mateo County Transit Police at (650) 622-8048.

This is very scary as for two reasons, Redwood City is a decent town and two, there were 9 -15 assailants, with no descriptions of the attackers. I take BART and sometimes Caltrain, this very unsettling.

I am certain it was either the joos or the Amish that attacked this poor guy.

CCW’s or carry anyway.

Better to be tried by 12 then carried by 6.

California is now more dangerous than Iraq and Afghanistan- combined.

2,000 will be killed in CA this year.

With Section 8 housing vouchers, there’s no longer any such thing as a “decent area” in most suburbs.

“Dunn said some Caltrain stations have surveillance cameras, but she did not know whether the Redwood City station has any such equipment. “

And being the SPOKEWOMAN for CALTRAIN, she has no ‘channels’ for finding out that kind of information.

They got a description of the car including the color.

Why trains are not a good idea in DNC enclaves.

Will the getaway car be charged with a hate crime?

One double tap for each and you are looking at 18 to 30 rounds. This is a perfect example why the government does not need to be regulating the capacity of magazines.

“Ride the commuter train?....No thanks, ever!”

Caltrain is a decent system. And Redwood City I thought was a decent area.

It was probably a bunch of Amish that flew in from Ohio. The Amish do appear to be getting restless lately, with flash mobs, group hits on convenience stores, etc.

More important, an auto-pistol would be the only thing capable of a) being concealed and b) firing off those rounds fast enough to save your life.

When society decided to take automatic weapons away from the citizens, I don't think anyone envisioned gangs of ferrel yout's roaming the streets. Times have changed and automatic weapons have a legitimate place in legal self defense.

We know that if it had been 9-15 white assailants attacking a “special protected minority” then THAT would be the headline ...

It is remarkable that there were over a dozen attackers and the only thing noteworthy was the color of their car.
