Home-schoolers place 1-2-3 in spelling bee

A trio of local home-school students cleaned up at Saturday’s Yellowstone County Spelling Bee, taking the top three places in the competition.

Ryan Campbell, 13, who is part of the Yellowstone Coalition of Home Educators, took the day’s top honor over 64 other local students, from fourth through eighth grades, when he correctly spelled “parmesan” after 17 rounds.

“I feel great,” he said afterward. “It’s a good feeling.”

This will be taken as more proof that schools aren’t “fully funded.”

Good job!

However, do they know about cucumbers and condoms and what purpose they serve for two men? /s

It really isn’t fair allowing Home Schoolers to compete. It’s like letting Michael Jordan play high school basketball again.

...just not fair.

When I applied to a local technical college out of high school in 2003 we had to take placement test on a computer. I was in a room with a bunch of other people my age and was worried as they were all finishing before me. Later I realized that was because the test gets progressively harder the more you get right, and ends when you get so many wrong.

When I went over the results with the counselor he looked at my results and asked if I was home schooled.

It’s funny how much a child can learn when they aren’t having homosexuality, condoms and cucumbers shoved down their throats all day long. Liberal run indoctrination centers have got to go. Sex has become the number one priority in our “publik skools”. We need to change that.

Perhaps the title should be more aptly stated as “Home Scholars”.

I have made a personal decision to not refer to public school "teachers" as "teachers" anymore.

They are union employees and they work at union shops. We should just rename each school for the Local that the union employees hail from.

USA spends multiple billion$ on public education yet the product is often an abysmal failure compared with other nations and vs. home schoolers.

There is this website called grocerylists.org. The guy scans random grocery lists that he finds on the ground and posts them. Some of them are hilarious (like, "snickers, Hersheys kisses, cupcakes, Midol"). And I know they are just quick random lists and most people don't pay much attention to what they write down, but they are a microscopic look into our society. I just went over and randomly chose a couple of lists. I can't link to them because of the Flash setup over there, but here they are:

List 1:
Bred
cheees
soffed butta
olivz
reis kaaks
garlick powda
jewce
onyun
pretzels (got one right!)
sodie
mustahd
burga bunz
bazill
veg stuff
hangres
faas wasche
chapp stixes
color ballz
foldah
nohtbuk
cohntahct solution
pappa towles
katt treetz
teethe brusche

List 2:

ketups

noddle soup
hambuger
hot sase

2 mix vegitble

There is a youtube clip floating around in which a Wisconsin teachers declares, “We aren’t paid enough!” and a Tea Party protester responds: “But you turn out crap! You aren’t getting the job done! How can you say you deserve more??”

We opted our five children out of public education way back before home schooling was fashionable. We took a LOT of flak from everybody—the educ-rats, our church, social service agencies, family, and the local community that believed in the system.
Boy, was it ever worth it!!
It is truly amazing what an advantage in our society that a person who can reason logically, read his own language fluently, write his own language precisely, and do basic math possesses. Give such a person a work ethic and stand aside...

"I feel great," he said. "I disagree," said little Samantha in his class who complained of his clumsy feeling.

Maybe he should have said "I'm feeling great" if he wanted to avoid upsetting Samantha.

Whoever wrote the sign for this poor young moron obviously wants to distract from the fact that state-run education is a bigger business than any private business that wants to run a charter school.
