Posted: Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011
Police have arrested five people they say were involved in a scheme to swap large amounts of cash and marijuana at a Burger King in Matthews.
In all, authorities say, they recovered more than 4,000 pounds of marijuana and $250,000 in cash. Investigators say the scheme included a former police officer from Mexico, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court on Wednesday.
Ubaldo Sandoval, Ana Bertha Sandoval, Jaime Fregoso Arellano, Ciro Noe Guerrero-Rosales and Hector Tegeda Galvan have been charged with conspiracy and possessing to distribute at least 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.
The Sandovals were also charged with conspiracy to launder money related to drug trafficking. Police say Ana Sandoval wired large amounts of money to Mexico and other places via a Bank of America branch on W.T. Harris Boulevard.
They were arrested after investigators say they tried to swap about $250,000 for 700 pounds of marijuana at a Burger King in Mint Hill on Tuesday.

This drug war problem is the result of big government Republicans and Democrats not leaving these issues to the individual states to decide thereby creating a huge black market for Mexican and Columbian drug lords.
You left off that it would also cause our government to lose revenue as they are they suppliers, the jailers, the seizers of property. Mafia racket = federal drug enforcement..
yea, too bad we can’t wake up with the King with all that hootch..Burger King would really have a smile kickin..hehehehe
Pot is good for Burger King!! You need to smoke it to be able to stomach their “improved” french fries.
