Goliath Davis III, whose rise to the top of his hometown Police Department and City Hall made him the city's most influential African-American official, was fired by Mayor Bill Foster this week.
Davis said the mayor wanted him out because he did not attend Tuesday's funeral for the third officer killed in the city in 28 days. Yet the former police chief did go to the funeral of the convict who killed the first two officers.

"Davis prides himself as a chief for restoring discipline and professionalism on a police force some believe was caught unprepared for the 1996 riots. Yet his tenure also was marked by constant fights and lawsuits with the police unions over Davis' discipline methods, which they called unfair and arbitrary."
If you spot it, you've got it, as my grandma used to say to me.
After listening to that pathetic excercise in BS it comes to me to ask How in the name of all that is good did this POS ever get to be Police Chief in the first place.
But the answer stood right there in front of me. AA.
He gathered his “crew” there to applaud for him, as he whined and tried to make excuses for going not going to the funerals. Oh so he felt sorry that a man died years ago and just cannot bear to go. Give me a damned break. That is horse dung.
I have never seen a Police Chief announce his retiremnt , his firing or anything else of import without wearing his uniform.
The major trouble with his leaving is that right now they are in the process of finding another affirmative action cop to take his place.
+1...
That’s the way I got it figured.
Not to worry, Venturer. Since the union police force now has a record of how to handle an affirmative action police chief, they've got a Modus operandi based on experience and no doubt shared this exercise with other police unions across the country to further hew the process. You can sleep tight tonight, comfortable in the knowledge the union police personnel are manning the ramparts valiantly striving to Serve and Protect you, the citizen and taxpayer.
Are you from Saint Petersburg?
No but I’v owned beachfront property there and live there a portion of the year. Been doing this since 1978, so now you know I’m a more mature person, sport.
So it is sort of like the Balkans. No good guys anywhere in sight.
” [An African American] is some dumbass who can’t figure out which continent he’s standing on!”
Pay dirt money quote of the month, sir!
That’s like “Yo mama so fat, she carry euros in one pocket, and pesos in the other!”
Or is this a new definition of incontinence?
;^)
Depends upon your point of view. Each faction no doubt believes they are the good guys. However, if not of the factions, it is easy to see, as you say, no good guys anywhere in sight.
I heard Chief Moose is available
Not surprised one bit.
Dear Zuben, if you’re still around:
Please explain why you think the allegations made by the union are off-base. Or do you believe police chiefs are always paragons of virtue and union members always greedy thugs?
This firing, in any case, had nothing to do w/ the union. Davis was no longer police chief. He was “senior administer of community enrichment,” making 153k a year. Do you think the mayor’s request that he attend the memorial service was unreasonable?
Btw, I’m OK w/ African-American, just like I’m OK w/ Italian-American or Irish-American. I’m not OK w/ putting ethnic/racial solidarity above duty, compassion, and common sense.
Sorry, Davis was Senior Administrator of Community Enrichment, and making $153,735 p/a. The Community Organizer in Chief only gets about 400k.
This guy got what he deserved.
See my post #21 above. I have little more to say about it than that post. Thanks for the article.
