Watch in disbelief as two reporters for the Chicago Tribune take a walk on the wild side, participating in a deer hunt. Laugh in hilarity as Ms Brotman suffer "scope bite". Weep tears for the hunters who took these two out in the field. The video clip is prefaced by, "The following video contains scenes of animal butchering. Discretion is advised for younger or more sensitive viewers."

Everyone is a clueless idiot the first time. I thought the piece was very positive and it’s good when women who are alledged to be liberals start to be aware of the difference between hunting and wanton killing of defensless animals. These two would be keepers in my book, and not just for their looks. By the way, I also spent many years in the military, also went to Iraq, and Vietnam, and I find it much more pleasant that these two were converted to our side rather than being insulted and left thinking all that junk about blood lust killing and conservatives is true. But that’s just my opinion.
For shooting, no so good.
Isn’t Brotman a fairly infamous name in Chicago?
These ladies got more training than most of the rednecks in NWFL!
Maybe they should be called scope dopes!
My brother-in-law (Now deceased) got scope bite years ago. Some Chinese or North Korean was popping rounds at them while at the Chosen Resevoir, so he borrowed another soldier’s scoped rifle, who wasn’t using it, and popped a cap on target. All he saw was stars, and he never got too close to the scope again.
I don’t know if he hit his target or not, but he made up for it later.
I think they deserve a pat on the back for going out there and finding out the truth about guns and hunting.
ML/NJ (never killed anything except some little metal ducks at Coney Island)
It’s obvious you didn’t watch their video.
The two city gals (probably liberals) made a good go of it and hunters got some good PR.
I watched the video
I like how at the end, she says that if she’s going to eat meat, this is the best way she feels about it. No farms that raise and slaughter the meat for her and neatly package it, but going out and doing the job herself.
“Two novices go deer hunting (GRAPHIC CONTENT)”
Huh?
They kept their clothes on the whole time.
Don't argue about gun control, 2nd Amendment rights, etc. with anyone who has never fired a firearm. Take them to a shooting range and let them have a fun day of shooting, THEN ask them how they feel about firearms.
The best thing you can do for the defense of your RKBA is to take non-shooters shooting.
Indeed, I've added two firearms to my gun collection dedicated exclusively to first-time shooters. The first is a semi auto .22 pistol with 3-dot sights. Why 3-dot sites? Because EVERYONE knows how to play tic-tac-toe. Just line up the dots, 3-in-a-row. If a new shooter can get shots on the paper early on, that goes a long way to having fun!
The second is a 20-gauge semi-auto shotgun. Most new shooters are a bit recoil-sensitive, so for friends (especially petite female friends) who are new to shooting and want to shoot clay pigeons, don't hand them a 12-gauge pump. I made that mistake with my slender wife (who endearingly refers to recoil as "kickback") and the recoil was too much for her. She is now gun-shy when it comes to the shotgun.
Remember, those of us who love the shooting sports love them because we DO THEM. Get your non-shooting friends out there and let them join in the fun. I'd rather take one newbie out shooting than have an on-line posting war with 500 anti-gunners.....
Great comments. Well said and well directed.
“The only shame I see in the video is on the guy who shot the yearling. I swear it was so small it probably still had its spots. A little patience next time. What a waste of a good deer tag.”
In Wisconsin, my brother says they can legally shoot more deer than they can eat. They hardly ever buy meat. Those young ones are very tasty. The state suffers from a deficit of deer hunters.
I would agree if they were in Wisconsin, but they are hunting in the People’s Republic of Illinois. You only get two tags in the lottery for shotgun season (not including muzzleloader), one either sex and one antlerless. This past year, I took a doe which was over 250lbs and let me tell you, was absolutely delicious. One of the best I’ve ever taken. The weather and diet have more to do with the quality of the meat than age, I’ve become more and more convinced of this over the years.
Each year, I usually take two in shotgun season, one for my freezer and one for the food pantry. Also I usually take one during bow season. (Takes too much time for bow...got to work sometime).
I see this as a coming trend, and one that should be encouraged. If you can contribute to this trend by taking a liberal out hunting, by teaching them the basics of shooting, by stretching them out of their comfort zone, please consider the considerable good that you will be doing for our country.
Yeah...pity the poor cameraman that followed these dopes around. They turn to talk to him and print him with the muzzle.
