Bosma To Fine Boycotting Democrats(Indiana Fleabaggers)
The Indy Channel/AP ^ | March 3, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana's Republican House speaker said Thursday he's ready to start issuing fines of $250 against boycotting Democrats.

Most of the House Democrats skipped Thursday morning's floor session, extending their stay at an Urbana, Ill., hotel to an 11th day and preventing legislative action.

House Speaker Brian Bosma announced he'd been told by Democratic leader Patrick Bauer that the boycotting members wouldn't return Friday either.

Bosma said he wants to fine Democrats who stay away from the Statehouse $250 per day, starting Monday.

Assuming 35 Democrats continue to avoid attending, it would add up to $8,750 a day, in total.

"I would not want my name listed in the clerk's records of the Indiana House and the House Journal for posterity. It would very clearly describe the actions that have been taken and the cost to the taxpayer," Bosma said.

so why is the media not out side their doors asking why they are not doing their jobs because you can bet if this was republicans then all hell would break loose.

In my state the Dems are screwed.
We are run by republicans and Scott so for the Dems ot leave the state which is friendly to them they would have to get a plane or drive through GA,SC,NC, VA or AL,MS,LA,TX

Better yet those Dems could just move back up north where they came from and leave FL to how it is instead of trying to change our state to the hell hole they left

Seems these dems could stand to lose quite a bit of personal income.... From the article:

Because Bosma has already ended the absent Democrats' $150-a-day expense payments, the fine would make the total penalty $405 a day.....

......Such fines have been threatened in previous House walkouts over the years, but have been waived when the minority party returns.

They had better not waive the fines or reinstate any per-diem pay. Make it hurt to prevent them from pulling this kind of stunt again.

This site Capitol and Washington has an ongoing ticker count of the cost to Indiana taxpayers for the dem walkout. Currently stands at over $146,900.

More on how the Indiana Democrat legislators are being funded for their walkout....From Teachers Unions Press Members to Fund Democrat Walkout

"As we pointed out yesterday, and Shella’s blog alluded to today, questions are starting to be asked around how the Indiana Democratic Party can afford to foot a $2,500-per-day hotel bill for House Democrats who fled to Illinois to kill education and labor union legislation. Now we know.

State teachers unions are soliciting contributions from their members for the express purpose of paying the hotel bills of Democrat legislators they want to stay away from the statehouse and kill education reform bills. Here’s the solicitation that made its way to union members today:

If you support Democrats standing up for Public Education, and you can afford to bolster our efforts, please consider making a contribution today so that we can maintain our strong commitment to this cause. The Governor and his Republican lawmakers have drawn a clear line in the sand: it’s our way or the highway. Democrats chose the highway. In the end, it’ll also be the high road. We can’t afford to let Republicans run our state into the ground by stomping all over our rights and workers. Democrats apparently can’t afford to pay their own hotel bill either so they’re calling in the deep pockets of teachers unions for reinforcement.

Please stand with us as we stand up to an agenda that’s wrong for Indiana.

P.S. Your contribution would be a huge help as we keep up the fight. Please click here to use our secure, easy online donation form. Thank you for your support!

Also If you would rather send donations to help with Democratic House members expenses here is the address:
Indiana Democratic Party
115 W. Washington St., Suite 1165
Indianapolis, IN 46204".................

Wowsa!

Really quite amazing the these Democratic runaways can’t see the handwriting on the wall... that the Democratic party is going to ask for donations.... But they sure aren’t going to take it out of the Democratic coffers! Talk about double dipping!.... but then they enjoy robbing the tax payers so this is not surprising. This is like biting off the hand that feeds you.

What they’re doing actually sounds like money laundering when you connect the dots. The laws say “you can’t”...but they say”we can if we do it this way”...loop holes a plenty I suspect.

Yeah, I made it out of pieces I find and put together. I don't draw them from scratch.

I think Bosma, Daniels and the GOP are slowly turning up the heat. They have time on their side.

However, I think this will not end end for the Dems. I think that they will come back but the bills will be voted on. If that means the State Police arrest and confine them to the State House, I think that will eventually be done.

The governor should just declare the seats vacant and schedule a special election to fill the seats for next Tuesday. All candidates on the last ballot would be eligible along with any write in candidates.

Sure. I don't mind if any FReepers use my stuff. It is to share. No attribution necessary. Copy, paste, alter, mutilate. Whatever. Just as long as it is a conservative message and not turned into some marxist propaganda piece. ;0)

Girlene, first of all an atta-boy-girl for the great informational job you're doing for all of us!!!

I went to the capitolandwashington.com site you found for some of your information and found the following in the comments section:

"I heard from someone "on the inside" of this mess, that the legislators were all given prepaid credit cards with out of state zip code id's on them the day they left. The out of state zip codes were to hopefully keep them hidden for awhile.

"That sure didn't work. My question on the card issuance is "how did they know ahead of time that these cards would be needed?" HMMM"

Obviously we have no idea who the poster is or if her/his info is good, but it's interesting. If accurate, it all may come out eventually and I sure hope it does.

atta-boy-girl - lol, cute.

Yes, I saw that post about "inside" information, but also know how rumors are started. Another blog, "Advance Indiana" has a suggestion for how to deal with this situation. I have no idea how accurate these claims are, but found it interesting. Can House Democrats Afford $250 A Day Fine? And Who Will Pay?

This site, Limits on Contributions During the Legislative Session, last updated 1/25/2010, has a rundown of restrictions on giving and receiving campaign contributions during the legislative session by state. For Indiana, the restrictions are as follows:

"A member of or candidate for the General Assembly may not solicit or accept campaign contributions or conduct other fundraising activities during the period between the General Assembly convenes in January of each odd-numbered year and ending when that session adjourns sine die."

Don't know if these restrictions have been changed since Jan, 2010, or whether any of these "donations" could be considered campaign contributions. Also, it's doubtful that their activities in IL could be considered fund-raising activities.......but......with a bit more information on what's REALLY going on, some dots might be able to be connected.

Bottom line, these guys are really pushing their luck, IMO.

Cost to Indiana taxpayers for the Indiana Democrat walkout, according to CapitolandWashington, is over $209,000. Last I heard, the $250 fines, plus loss of $155 daily per diem to the legislators will start after 1:30 pm. Wonder if anyone came home this weekend.
