1st call for impeachment by member of Congress

A Republican congressman has told a left-leaning blog that if there is collective support, he would favor the impeachment of Barack Obama over his decision to stop defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Scott Keyes of ThinkProgress.org asked U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz.: "I know Newt Gingrich has came out (sic) and said if they don't reverse course here, we ought to be talking about possibly impeaching either Attorney General [Eric] Holder or even President Obama to try to get them to reverse course. Do you think that is something you would support?" Keyes asked.

Read all about the grounds for impeachment.

Franks replied: "If it could gain the collective support, absolutely. I called for Eric Holder to repudiate the policy to try terrorists within our civil courts, or resign. So it just seems like that they have an uncanny ability to get it wrong on almost all fronts."

Bump for #33, #34 and #50.

The first step, of course, is to develop credible proof of one or more offenses that could form the foundation of an impeachment proceeding. Ineligibility, if a non-U.S. birthplace is established, could lead to a quick conviction in the Senate. It is a “game over”, “yes” or “no” issue with no middle ground.

Who in either the House or the Senate, other than perhaps the 100 plus members of the Democratic Socialists of America and La Raza supporters, etc., would vote to allow a foreigner to serve as president in violation of the Constitution?

Ineligibility based solely on a lack of two citizen parentage is more problematic, would depend on a supporting opinion from the USSC, and even if successful, would probably not provide a basis for removing Obama.

There are other potential offenses, of course, such as the multiple SoSec#’s issue, defiance of judicial decisions, refusal to enforce statutes, to name a few.

Recommend FReepers put together their preferred list of offenses and convince their members of Congress to join in the call for convening a Congressional committee for such inquiry.

To quote a proven patriot, “Let’s Roll!”

I think you’ve done a good job of identifying how to proceed, and creating the preliminary list of offenses. I would add the felony trading of presidential appointments as well.

Nachum has already done some organizing on this; contact him privately perhaps for his own preliminary list of offenses, and check his website from his profile here.

I think right now it’s a good idea to contact the Congressman from Arizona and let him know of your support, and it may be helpful to mention broader support you’re aware of. I’d say once we’ve agreed on a more firm list of offenses we want to see brought to impeachment proceedings, along with a question of possible offenses related to his citizenship(s?) and social security numbers, we should coordinate a day or week to get everyone to flood their representatives with the same or similar request to let our work be most effective.

Let me know what you think. I’ve added you to the ping list by the way. I think we can win on this - I know I’m energized more by working to make it happen than in cogitating over whatever he’s doing this week in hopes that the electorate will somehow see the obvious and vote him out in 2012. But that’s putting a lot of faith in an electorate that was already shamefully duped at least once: exhibit A - the oval office occupant now. And I don’t want to wait and see what other nonsense he’s got in the works for surprise November delivery. The iron might not be fully hot now, but striking when it is, is the way to go.
