State Rep. Mark Hatfield, R-Waycross, just handed me a copy of his new bill, HB 401, which would require President Barack Obama to provide certified proof of his birth to the Georgia secretary of state in order to appear on next years presidential primary and general election ballots.
The bill has the signatures of 94 members of the 180-member House, including that of one Democrat, Glenn Baker of Jonesboro.
The measure will get its first hearing on Wednesday. Read the bill here.
If youre a member of the Georgia Ports Authority or Georgia Chamber of Commerce, still attempting to persuade the White House to add a few zeros to that appropriation for the dredging of the Port of Savannah, this is your cue to cut loose an animal howl of frustration.
At minimum, the bill will make for some interesting chatter when the national press comes down to hear Newt Gingrichs announcement that hes exploring a GOP run for president.
Hatfield attempted similar legislation last year. From my AJC colleague April Hunt:
I think the issue with our sitting president has been left unresolved for a significant length of time that people have concerns, Hatfield said. But this is not just about our current president. Its about enforcing the constitutional provisions for anyone who seeks the office of presidency.
Hatfields bill would require certified copies of the candidates first original long-form birth certificate. Documentation as provided by Hawaii, which has insisted time and time again that Obama was born there, would not suffice, Hatfield said.....

Thanks for the ping, Prof Mel.
RS, is there anything a resident of GA can do to grease the skids of this legislation? Is my state rep the best pol to contact, or are there others even more critical?
Forcing Obama to produce a voided legal document will be met with a successful court challenge.
His adoption should not void his duty to present his original BC to satisfy his constittional requirements for POTUS. Although a Clinton appointed liberal judge might see it otherwise.
Exactly. But even just one would cause a media storm if they refused to put a candidate on the ballot. So one could successfully block a non-citizen but not a dual citizen like Obama.
It will take a slightly different bill to restore the founder's intent of blocking non-"natural born" citizens. But this is the right first step.
I disagree. If Obama challenges the law in order to avoid having to submit his birth certificate, it might make a crucial number of people nationwide say "WTF?"
bttt
They need to look at his State Department and INS records to determine his eligibility.
His original long form BC was sealed by Court order after the Soetoro adoption and is of no legal value. The original long form BC was voided after the adoption and a new BC was created.
Forcing Obama to produce a voided legal document will be met with a successful court challenge.
However, his State Department documents and INS documents are legally valid and can be used to determine Obamas eligibility.
“I really think Republicans make themselves look ridiculous dwelling on the birth certificate issue”.
...focusing on a legitimate issue that delegitimizes the constitution is not ridiculous.
Apparently, GA provided a solution to a legally void original BC ...
38 ... “If the foregoing described certified exact copy of the
39 candidate’s first original long-form birth certificate is not attached and the candidate’s
40 affidavit indicates that a first original long-form birth certificate for the candidate does
41 not exist, the candidate shall attach certified exact copies of other original
42 documentation, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s birth records, adoption
43 records, baptism records, Social Security records, medical records, school and college
44 records, military records, and passport records showing, either individually or
45 collectively, that the candidate meets the natural born citizenship, age, and residency
46 requirements prescribed by Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution. The
47 candidate shall not attach certified or other copies of nonoriginal documents or records;”
As I recall, this particular bill has a NBC challenge clause, if a citizen objects to a presidential ballot candidate.
Thanks. It’s on my To Do list.
You're right; however, the exercise is NOT to prevent 0b0z0 from winning these red states, rather, he HAS to explain why he doesn't provide his papers or sue these states for their "transgression and racism!"
Many people will realize beyond reasonable doubt that 0h0m0llah is ineligible and the REAL Americans on the Left won't vote for him! Only about the usual suspects, the 25%-30%, will anyway.
Next thing you know our fed gov will require the President and Congressmen to file I-9’s like everyone else, and prove eligibility to work..
How could Obama do it, the SS he is using according to SS has not been issued...
Even if Barry had been birthed in the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House he isn't a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
Just as long as at least one state has the balls to finally get this law passed!
It’ll get good when other presidential candidates publicly wave their long form birth certificates in the air that would say they are natural born citizens and Obama is conspicuously left off the state(s) ballot. LoL.
“Misleading headline”
Not really. He will have to show his BC, so the title is correct.
Imagine that Georgia passes this law and it withstands court challenges.
Then Obama is registered to be on the ballot of all states except Georgia.
This alone validates the entire birther concept. And Federal courts have ruled that ANY candidate on the ballot has standing to challenge Obama's eligibility PRIOR to the election. His eligibility then goes on trial and the entire world finds out what he has spent so much money on to hide.
This is not a winner for Obama.
